Amber Alert issued for pregnant teenager suspected to be with 40-year-old man

An Amber Alert has been issued for a pregnant teenager who is believed to be with a 40-year-old man.

Sophia Franklin, 16, was last seen Sunday night at her home in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. She is three months pregnant.

Authorities believe she is with 40-year-old Gary F. Day, who is the father of Sophia’s unborn child. He was last seen at Sophia’s home Monday morning.

Day and Sophia have a no-contact order.

They are believed to be traveling in a 2014 model black Buick LaCrosse with Arkansas license plate BBR 20L.

Getting married wouldn't do him any good with federal warrants out for him. That would likely leave a trail for them to find him. You have to show id to get a marriage cert for both of them.
Yeah but who'd call him smart....? If he was, he wouldn't have done this in the first place and gotten a warrant... And they were not arrested yet, for all we know they were trying to get a license when seen, I don't know this but anything's possible. It would not erase his warrant necessarily but maybe they were just laying low until she turned 17. I'm not saying whether the parents signed or not, they could have tried forging... I find the timing REALLY interesting here.

Even still having the warrant, he may have thought, or both even, that he'd have a better chance if married and they had a baby, and then hoped to plea deal on the charges or some such. Not like he's never been in the court system before, and look at his low bond, we were all shocked by that...

And I wouldn't call her dumb, she is a victim, but she is young and sure not making great choices, and been played by him I'm sure.

It's just speculation but I think it's a pretty good possibility... Nebraska had no Amber Alert and they may have just thought let's try it or they are just so much in "love".

Not the only thing I've thought of, also crossed my mind they may have been sighted because he took her out for her bday or something...

Who knows. More hopefully will come...

Well i am thinking the parents could consent. Who knows? She's pregnant and about to give birth possibly in a month or two, they want to marry and ran off because of it so maybe it's a no brainer and the parents may just give in now.
I don't think it's impossible but I also don't think it impossible they tried to forge a signature. But your thought, who knows, they could have signed something for her back when and said NO, but when you turn 17 you can marry him if still feel that way. I mean it's not like we know everything in the case. MAYBE it explains the timing when there's been no word of hardly any sightings in all this time... Maybe they knew they'd try to head to a courthouse or figured they would...

I'm just speculating but you finding the age and her just having a bday, I find the timing pretty darned interesting...

He's in jail now and most likely will be for a while. Would you give your daughter permission to marry the guy that kidnapped her AFTER he was given an order to start away from her even AFTER he learned her real age? AFTER you had learned about his past, too? Oh, hellno!
We are talking of the same parents right that didn't know she wasn't living with a friend for how long...? She's ran off with him how many times now? Twice or was it once more? Can't recall. It's kidnapping in my book but I trust all know what I mean, she seemed willing.

I gave an example above of one thought I had. This entire case has been odd.

They have a teenager that's out of control or at least has been the last how long...

I tried to put some of the oddity down to LE not sharing info and I think that's there but even with Amber Alerts, nothing seemed very gung ho... I'm wondering if even LE was waiting for the bday... No idea if parents were or not but I find this timing incredibly odd.

Let's add the fact that she met this man, got impregnated by him and lived with him before for how long, and I'm not putting any store in the parents or they sure weren't ensuring where she was and such... Could be a bit of a variety of scenarios but...

And he's just plain dumb, I mean how can he not be, he hasn't learned his lessons from similar things and more.

Kudos to the lady truckdriver that went with her instincts.

The two were found at a truck stop by a trucker who was suspicious of them, Kreuziger said.
A woman trucker arrived at the truck stop and noticed Day and Sophia with another trucker parked at the stop. Finding it odd such a young pregnant girl was with Day, the woman struck up a conversation with them, he said.
The woman found that conversation suspicious and returned to her truck to do "research," finding out Sophia was a missing person and she called authorities, Kreuziger said.

Smart woman.

It said unclear how they came to be with the trucker. I wonder if they were in Nebraska the whole time, I guess they could have been hitching rides, hard to say. Or they could have just come to be with him I guess at that point. So some more details but still not all of them yet.

My daughter wouldnt have been stupid enough to get together with someone old enough to be her grandpa in the first place. But it seems she is gonna stay with him regardless and will just wait another year anyway so it may be a no brainer for the parents. Otherwise they will need to bring up her baby and her with them and watch her like a hawk for the next year, unless he gets jail time.

So will they deal with the Nebraska charges then send him back to Wisconsin to face those charges. What will she do? Follow him back to Wisconsin, have her parents come get her? She must be near term now and may ask for his release. It sure is a mess.

The one article said they were on their way to get her. I'm not sure re the other. I'd almost think you'd do WI first, and what about federal, were there charges? I know they said they placed a federal hold on him.

He should be getting prison time with all these charges. You know maybe they should work something out where he's imprisoned in Nebraska, she'd have to drive a lot farther to o visit him. You know like in Daybell, Lori is Idaho's prisoner when this is all over. Not sure how it all works or if they can though. Maybe they always go where the most serious charges are and WI's are more severe it said than Nebraska's.

Hard to say what she'll do. Take the baby to visit him in prison? Is she that stuck on him or is it possible this time it was because of the baby she chose to go, it would seem though she goes willingly. He probably led her of course, groomed her I guess you'd say. Will she fall "out of love" once he's gone for a bit and find someone else? Hard to say how the parents are going to keep her home other than she doesn't have him to run with now. The family has several kids already. Her family. I don't know how they think they will keep her home, she doesn't seem to want to be there. However, she may have nowhere to run to, she's going to be in a hard boat for much money or being able to work and having a baby, it's doubtful she can support a baby and herself.

God Bless that woman for doing exactly what I would have done in that situation

no haven't seen it..... isn't the FBI involved? Where are they in all of this interstate kidnapping BS
Well there's a fed hold on him so something is going on that way. I wonder if they will do that first but dont they often wait until the states are done? I think the main goal was to just get him into custody and split from her and main thing they wanted to do was get him into custody in Nebraska and things will shake out from this point and we'll hear more about what they plan on or who is going first and so on...
