Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

So in the Houston case where the three kids were living alone with their dead sibling in the next room, the mother and her bf were arrested. He is charged with muder and has a million dollar bail. She, however, is not charged with as serious of offenses and conceivably could get out, 10 percent is only $2,500 the way I understand it. On top of that it sounds as if the judge gave her no conditions if she did get out. She is not restricted from seeing or being around children, etc., no restrictions.

These two were living in their own apartment having I guess abandoned her kids and killed the one. She does have a tampering with the body charge I believe so we know she knows he killed the kid and she leaves and lives with him?? I sure hope there are more charges coming down for her...

He also did repay the amount for speeches he never attended but not the interest it sounds like...

I have debated doing a thread on the three children and dead sibling found in a Houston apartment, not sure if it needs its own thread or news will continue but I guess it will or should through trial or whatever anyhow. Not sure if anyone has continued following this but it is both disgusting and maddening.

I am only partway into this one but first, the mother I guess did an interview with a news station. Didn't say a lot and insisted no cameras. First she claims she didn't do it. I assume that means kill her son. Second she says she had no idea he was dead. BULLSH*T. She is charged with hiding the body and tampering/concealing it, etc. Then they asked her about leaving the kids alone and she said "I checked on them every two weeks" as if this deserved credit or applause I guess??!!!!. STEAM started rolling out of my ears.

Then there is a paternal grandmother who raised if I have it right one of this woman's children, I take that to be her own granddaughter. A second teen girl/daughter recently wanted to live with her too. I don't know if she said no or what exactly happened there BUT it came out now after that the mom's bf was ___________ (word was bleeped out, I assume the word was beating) the younger kids. The older girl would try to stop it or intervene and the mother THREW her out and sided with the boyfriend. Now steam is not only rolling out of my ears but flames are starting to erupt. What??? If anyone doesn't know by the way the mother and boyfriend rented another apartment about 15 minutes away and left the kids in this one alone.

Then there is a neighbor on camera and another off camera and the one off said that the boyfriend was seen like a year ago throwing the (now dead) child around like a sack of potato chips outside. And NO ONE CALLED the cops?

Now they are getting into things about the apartment and the complex. First, these kids were not just without power recently, neighbor said it's been a year. Second, I gather the apartment was leaking into an apartment below, something with plumbing, and even then maintenance or management never checked nor entered. Then they are talking about at least one other child who died in this apartment complex or it may have been two, unclear on that... There's at least one that fell from a third story window and other stories...

Here you go if interested. Only about 1/2 an hour. I'm about 12 minutes in and have already heard this much that I detailed here and more to go. This case angers me and makes me sick, sounds like a lot of failures. They all make me sick but this one wow, it has me irate.

checked on them every two weeks, but didn't notice that one of them was decomposing for the last entire year?

Exactly. I never did pick up on whether she made bail and was out of jail or if this "interview" if one can call it that was prior to arrest or outside the courtroom or something.

All I can say is there were a LOT of failures here. And even the ones that claim to care one has to wonder about to a point... One father was not around and actually admits to abandoning his son and now wants to turn over a new leaf but he only just got out of jail on a recent charge... Some comments say yeah, sure, GFM money... He also had a DV charge relating to the mother when they were together.... Who knows...

And people at the complex SAW the current bf abusing the child that died a year ago. No one called it in??
