ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

Just f/y/i this is an interesting website. I see MN is on there. Interesting to say the least. It is just citing cases, US Supreme Court and many different issues of when states do their own thing or their governors, attorney generals, judges, etc. From small local to state to federal. I haven't gotten to look at a lot but I did read the MN info.

It's a story to tell people that if you're lost ANSWER THE DAMN PHONE!!
Or, ya know, the rescuers could have left a damn message. Or sent a damn text.

I haven't read the article lol but why is this a story lol?? Clearly if calls could come in, calls could go out and he could probably call anyone he wanted to if he wanted to check in or needed help.
Yeah he could have also called someone since he had service. He figured he was alright and would find his way out.
He was late/delayed, and someone reported that. Which is great. Maybe this friend could have tried calling him first.
Or maybe he was intentionally ignoring everyone to be a drama queen.

methinks he was intentionally ignoring people. He might have been in and out of service though, but most places I've been if cell service is spotty, texts still work most of the time. Either he has really dumb friends and rescuers or it was intentional.

The CDC is currently investigating four cases of melioidosis possibly linked to the recalled products. Two of the four patients, including one child, have died.

“We are committed to providing safe, high-quality products to our customers,” reads a statement issued by Walmart on Tuesday. “Our sympathies go out to the four families that have been impacted by this situation. Customer safety is always a top priority and as part of the recall we proactively put plans in action to notify customers and prevent further product sales while federal agencies continue their investigation.”

Those four confirmed cases of melioidosis were reported in Kansas, Minnesota, Texas and Georgia. Walmart said Tuesday, however, that the recalled products were available in “about 55 stores” throughout the country. It was also sold online.
