Ariel Young seriously injured in KC MO car accident

You know, he must have refused a breathalyzer? Everyone I know of spends the night at least in jail after either refusing a breathalyzer or taking one and failing if the signs of alcohol were there which they were in this case. It makes no difference that the hospital BAC test has to be waited for as they already had cause for all of it.

From this article:

A search warrant application states that Ariel's mother told police "as she crawled from her Chevy Traverse, she observed Reid standing looking at the vehicles and talking on his cellphone," the Star reports.
She then "pled" with Reid to call 911 since she lost her phone in the crash, according to the court documents.

Judgmental maybe but what? Why was he not checking to see who was inside and rushing to see if help was needed?? Would that not be the normal human response?? I have been in accidents and it is the first thing that comes out of my mouth to total strangers even if apparently all right. Are you all right? Are you all right? Are you sure? And the same generally in return.

Much remains to be seen I realize, and I am not throwing him under the bus yet but I just hope it is handled as all cases would be. People are really fed up in this nation with special breaks for certain types. Not saying it is the case here yet but I think we all know of many such things. It will be interesting to see who he immediately contacted after the crash.

The administrative leave lasted for the duration of the contract, which apparently wasn’t much longer.
*So to clear up the salatious headlines, Britt's contract wasn't terminated due to this accident.*
I figured it was due to expire, I don't question that. I simply wonder if such things are generally renewed or renegotiated before they expire or if they already intended not to renew it even before this accident or would it have been renegotiated during the off season?

That article does say his employment with them is in serious doubt. I don't think I have read anything overly salacious. Jmo though. Not sure what else is out there.

exactly!

this does lead me to wonder if he just found out that his contract wasn't going to be renewed or that the reality of his employment with the Chiefs ending was sinking in.

to be fair to both sides, we do not know how many drinks he actually had. This could just as easily sway one way or the other.
That's what I just posted or what I was thinking. Did they have no intent of renewal already?

just being told your contract isn't going to be renewed could easily lead one to be heavily distracted...and on a distractive phone call...and/or having a few drinks.
I did think of that right off the bat but then I also thought he had Superbowl to look forward to so...? But yah, he could have been kind of down...

This article doesn't say much different but she is still in critical condition.

Is he still in the hospital? Haven't seen much said about that.

haven't seen anything about him lately, but I haven't really been paying attention until I heard she had waken up. It sounds like she still isn't doing very well though, but progress is progress.

They've posted some updates on the Go Fund Me site. (You can Google "ariel young gofundme" and you'll find it. Not gonna post the link because I think it we might have those links blocked? Don't wanna seem like I'm trying to solicit donations either but it's easy to find.)

Update from today, 2/16:
Ariel, while she is awake she is not the same happy free spirited little girl she was before this horrific crash. She has a long road to recovery and the things that were once easy for her will no longer be. We are so happy she is awake yet so sad at the toll this took on her body and brain. We are thankful for the continued support and love for her right now. No family or child should ever have to go through this.
Thank you ❤️

OMG! Look at those cars!!!

Wow. From the start it seemed it was a fairly high speed accident with the other vehicles at a full stand still/parked with likely no evasive action taken and the damages seem to confirm that.

Her prognosis does not sound very good and that is absolutely heartbreaking but sadly not surprising. She is going to need a lot of care and probably full time care for her lifetime. I pray she gets better but it is hard to believe there is not serious permanent damage.

He can expect I am sure a wrongful death suit on top of any charges and it's understandable.

That ramp is very long and most do highway speed while on it way before they actually get to the highway, treating it like another highway lane. It's probably what he always did getting on the highway. Not that it excuses it in any way though. Ask @kdg411 She knows!

He was definitely distracted in some way to not see not one, but TWO cars that he slammed into. I do like how the lawyer even stated that he can't say whether he believes the 2-3 drinks story as he has not seen the toxicology yet.

I agree, he missed two vehicles at a standstill, he clearly was not seeing anything, looking or focusing, etc. High speed, stand still vehicles, he would have definitely slammed hard and ricocheted, etc. In fact, I don't know the actual set-up/knowledge of the area, but thinking of that, it is fortunate even more vehicles were not involved if traffic was heavy.

I shouldn't be cynical but I hope tox is done all above board, I trust it will be. I doubt it was two to three myself but that is just because almost everyone underplays the # and yet he had to admit some because they noticed the odor of intoxicants. Even if telling the truth, there would be a big difference between two to three beers and say a double straight up of something, etc.

I hate to pick on him but I also note we are likely to never hear what his alleged injury was/surgery was for. I still think most people would have likely been arrested, bonded out and be under conditions like at least a no drink and some other things, just based on intoxicant odor, failure of field tests, possibly a breathalyzer, etc.

You know seeing these vehicles, the adults, etc. could very well have some serious whiplash, back, neck or other injuries/pain as well but we may not hear of that since the little girl is the one so serious. The other child too they have an injury claim for even though they were not life threatening.

interesting fact stated here i was not aware of

“I do not fault the time the investigation took at all. They reached the right conclusion,” Porto said.
Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said in a press release Monday that Reid is not receiving any favorable treatment from Kansas City police nor her office. She said recent changes in Missouri’s DWI laws limit the number of charges that the prosecutor’s office could pursue, given the evidence in the case. Baker said her office will vigorously pursue these charges.
