The "bad day" comment was in extremely poor taste. Could be forgiven though, if he cared enough to apologize.
The shirts he was promoting were ABSOLUTELY racist and there is no "cancel culture" BS about it.
Kind of ironic, in a 'not-funny-at-all' kind of way, that this guy pulls this case.

The way I read it the Captain was relating what the investigators impressions of the suspects comments were. Not how any of the LE officers felt personally. I can't see why the Captain should be punished for that at all.

How tragic for this grieving husband. It must have been very chaotic for the authorities as they dealt with the massacre, with several different spas affected, etc. I hope that the community is generous and is able to offer support and help for him and his children.

Captain Baker didn't kill the Asian women, Robert Aaron Long did. I agree that the Captain's repeating the shooters' words were in poor taste and that inevitably they would be hurtful, but I don't think his intentions were to minimize the seriousness of the situation. Perhaps we will hear from him about this, or from his lawyer or union rep, but probably not, as he probably has to stay silent now due to internal investigations. I feel for him, he is up against the mob now.

The death penalty was a punishment Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis previously said she wouldn't seek in cases. However, that notion has change following the metro Atlanta spa shootings.

The district attorney also wants to enhance the suspect's possible sentence with Georgia's hate crime statute.

She made the statement -- seemingly against pursuing the death penalty -- while still campaigning for the job. She addressed those comments at Tuesday's news conference.

"Last year, I told the voters of Fulton County that I could not imagine a circumstance where I would seek it. And at that time I did not," she said. "Unfortunately, a case has risen in the first few months of my term that I believe warrants the ultimate penalty and we shall seek it."

Willis will seek the "ultimate penalty" against 22-year-old Robert Aaron Long, the sole suspect in the attacks that happened at three metro spas two months ago. She said many factors went into her decision to seek the punishment.

“I have personally reviewed the statement in this case. I have personally walked the crime scene in these cases along with Chief Senior ADA, I have spent more than six hours with the families involved in this case. We have reviewed the evidence and I am comfortable in the decision that this is an appropriate sentence to seek.”

Robert Aaron Long, 22, is charged with four counts of murder in Fulton County and four counts of murder in Cherokee County.

Fulton County’s district attorney expects Long to get a plea deal in the Cherokee County case, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. District Attorney Fani Willis said she’s been told to expect the Cherokee County case to end following a hearing scheduled for July 27.

“In my world that means they’ve reached a deal,” Willis told the AJC.

Willis filed a motion Tuesday to have Long transferred to Fulton County immediately following that hearing, according to local NBC affiliate WXIA.

No matter the deal Long gets in Cherokee County, he will still face the Fulton County case, where he is charged with four counts of murder, domestic terrorism and assault with a deadly weapon. Willis said in May that she will seek the death penalty and hate-crime charges.

Robert Aaron Long moved to Fulton County jail; DA will seek death penalty​

Robert Aaron Long, the man now convicted of killing multiple people in a shooting spree earlier this year, has been transferred to Fulton County.

Earlier this week, Long pleaded guilty for the murders of four people at Young’s Asian Massage in Cherokee County. He entered guilty pleas for all 23 counts in the indictment and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

But that's not the end of his legal proceedings. He is now in Fulton County where he faces 19 felony charges, including four counts of murder and four counts of felony murder.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis plans to seek the death penalty. His first court appearance in Fulton County is set for Aug. 23 at 9 a.m.

Convicted spa shooter Robert Aaron Long returned to Fulton County court Tuesday to hear his trial date for the deaths of four people at two spas in Atlanta.

Long, who is currently serving a sentence of life without parole for the deaths of four people at a massage parlor in Cherokee County, now faces more charges for murders committed in Atlanta.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and her team of prosecutors declared in late August their intent to seek the death penalty and pursue hate crime violations against Long in the upcoming trial, now set for April 19, 2022.

Long's victims were Suncha Kim, Soon Chung Park, Hyun Jung Grant, Yong Ae Yue, Xiaojie “Emily” Tan, Delaina Yaun, Paul Michels and Daoyou Feng.

Long took a plea deal in Cherokee County, but as his case continues to move through the courts in Fulton County, there's a strong push to remember the victims of his crimes.

A Fulton County judge on Tuesday granted a continuance motion to the defense of accused Atlanta spa shooter Robert Aaron Long that will see a hearing on several other motions begin in the fall.

The judge set the hearing to begin on Oct. 17, though he blocked out three weeks for the hearings to potentially be held through Nov. 4, because Long's defense team has another trial scheduled in September that may not conclude by mid-October.

A judge in Fulton County on Friday ruled that the news media will continue to be able to record and broadcast pretrial proceedings in the case of Atlanta spa shooter Robert Aaron Long

The case against Long, in which prosecutors are seeking the death penalty, has slowly progressed in the nearly three years since the shootings targeting spas and killing eight people -- seven women, six of them of Asian descent, and one man.

A motions hearing, the latest step in the pretrial process, was held Friday before Judge Ural D. Glanville.

Prosecutors, arguing against the motion to limit media access, said defense attorneys had failed to point to specific coverage by any outlet that might be prejudicial or inflammatory.


Long has already pleaded guilty to the case in Cherokee County, receiving a sentence of life in prison without parole for the four killings of Xiaojie Tan, Daoyou Feng, Delaina Ashley Yaun-Gonzalez, and Paul Andre Michels at Youngs Asian Massage in Acworth.

Soon Chung Park, Sun Cha Kim, Yong Ae Yue, and Hyun Jung Grant were killed at two Atlanta spas following the shooting in Acworth.
