GUILTY on both counts

WOW.

I very much should not be throwing my day off as I need to handle a TON of urgent things but I HAD to watch this. And with backing it up to hear again, etc. ti took me well over the hour it lasted.

I have SOOO much to say but no time to say it. I dare not waste more of this day.

Important points. I forgive the judge for taking this long to come back with this verdict. Clearly he had a lot to put on records and a lot to do and it was worth the waite.

Second, this brother of Breasia''s is a HERO and I hope that is conveyed to him through his life. Not as an ego trip, not in a spoiling manner but how he did the right thing and he was instrumental in justice for his sister!

Third there are things in here I didn't know and I couldn't watch the trial. The fact the brother put the battery back in the phone and then took it out and because of that it pinged was also instrumental.

I have soooo much to say but no time to say it. How or why this man wasted as most do the time of the public and the court pleading not guilty smh, along with his recent letter to the judge. It is all there and it is solid.

I will likely never get the chance, I've wasted way too much time today, but I have things to say on about all of it. I recognized the roads talked of, Rockingham, Locust, Highway 61. I've said before Davenport was the home of one side of my family and still is to some...

I have a lot to say about him.

I love that the judge said toward the end he was not "savvy". And he wasn't.

iF this man had never went back to the apartment, he may WELL have gotten away with this. I don't even understand why he did or the stupidity of doing that. At that point too he could have STOPPED or been stopped.

I could go on and on. I have total sympathy for her mother and grandma and siblings. It is notable he refused the OLDER brother going along. I do think the mom in hindsight probably regrets a lot including having a relationship with this man, however, she has a son who is quite the MAN that his father never will be.

The gf is harder to understand BUT she did the right thing.

I'm surprised no one is yelling about the camera being focused on the defendant. Camera in the courtroom here. This man is evil. He's despciable. And he is stupid to boot and as the judge said, NOT savvy. His child bless his heart has everything he does not. He inherited the best traits and certainly not from the sperm donor.

I know most here don't follow this as most aren't in here ever but I highly recommend watching this to all. If you don't know the case, the judge pretty much lays it all out so you will know it if you listen to it. There are some things not touched on like he was a sex offender not current on registry, etc. but it mostly is an overview of all of it.

And it is WORTH the watch.

RIP Breasia Terrell. You may not be here but your brother has your back as to justice. He got you justice. The judge even said BUT for him, there were dots and questions LE would not have been able to connect. The phone. Oh my goodness. And Andrea insisting he take it.

The money. He sure had a lot of access to cash didn't he....

Man I have to stop and get on my own things before the day is over. BUt I have cared about this case and I HAD to watch this.

Breasia Terrell's mom reacts to guilty verdict with bittersweet emotions

News 8's Joe McCoy spoke with Breasia's mother, Aishia Lankford, about her feelings on the verdict. The family gathered at the memorial for Breasia in DeWitt, located near the pond where her body was found.

While justice had been served in a legal sense, it was still a somber day for everyone who loved Breasia.

"There is no amount of justice that can compare to what he took from me. He took everything from me," Aishia Lankford, Breasia's mom, said. "He broke me down, and he took a lot."

Dinkins' actions left a hole that no verdict can fill. That said, feelings of relief were also present today after the verdict was announced.

"Today makes 1,163 days that we've been waiting for something," Lankford said. "I feel like I won those lucky lottery numbers because oh my god, I feel so good. I feel so relieved."

Overall, Breasia's family is ready to close this chapter so they can move forward.

"I can breathe again. Because he took that away from me, to be able to comfortably move around and be able to breathe," her mom added. "And now I can breathe again."

Dinkins' sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 1:30 p.m.

That sure came in quietly. I have seen nothing of it until now. Not that I get time to look.

GOOD!

In a 12-minute session on Thursday, Henry Dinkins appeared – along with the mother of the girl he was convicted of killing – for a restitution hearing.

Dinkins, who is in custody after his conviction in September, appeared in a virtual hearing with attorney Chad Frese, who represented Dinkins throughout his murder trial earlier this year. Aishia Lankford, the mother of Breasia Terrell, appeared with Scott County Attorney Kelly Cunningham in the Scott County Court session.

“(Dinkins) still maintains his innocence in this case,” Frese said.

Judge Henry Latham, who presided over Dinkins’ murder trial, said Thursday the court grants the state $7,837.14 for the Crime Victims Assistance Program. This includes money that Lankford used for Breasia’s funeral expenses.

Earlier, in Dinkins’ sentencing, he was ordered to pay $150,000 to Breasia’s estate. Lankford is her daughter’s heir.

During the hearing, Lankford said Breasia’s body, which had been held in the state medical examiner’s office, was returned to her and a funeral was held.

Dinkins, who has been sentenced to two consecutive life sentences without parole for the kidnapping and slaying of 10-year-old Breasia Terrell, did not speak during the hearing.

Dinkins earlier filed an appeal on the verdict of guilty, judgment entry and sentencing order “and all adverse rulings of any pretrial motions herein entered by the Honorable Henry W. Latham II,” an appeal document says.

Dinkins will be represented by the state appellate defender’s office for the appeal, court records say.
