In April 2009, Brittanee asked for her mother's permission to travel to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for spring break with her friends and longtime boyfriend. Her mother said no, they argued about it, and Brittanee got permission to go to a friend's home. She went to Myrtle Beach in spite of what her mother said.

Her mother was unaware of this; she thought Brittanee was staying with a friend locally. They spoke several times on the telephone after she arrived in South Carolina. Brittanee's mother didn't find out where her daughter really was until she was notified that Brittanee had disappeared.

Brittanee's friends last saw her Bar Harbor Hotel in Myrtle Beach at 8:00 p.m. on April 25, 2009. Brittanee walked more than a mile to the Blue Water Resort on Ocean Boulevard, where other friends were staying. Surveillance cameras there show her going into the resort, then leaving sometime after 8:30 p.m. At 9:15 p.m., she sent a text message to one of her friends saying she was going to see a friend who was staying at another hotel. She has never been heard from again.

She left all her clothes behind at her hotel room. Her beige purse and pink cellular phone disappeared with her. The phone's last signal was near U.S. 17 and the Charleston County line the night Brittanee went missing. Since then its battery has died.

In the summer of 2016, investigators announced they believe they know what happened to Brittanee, and named a suspect in her case. They believe she was held against her will for four days before being murdered. A witness, Taquan Brown, testified he'd seen T.D.T. and several other people sexually assaulting Brittanee at a drug dealer's "stash house" in McClellanville, South Carolina, a small town about sixty miles south of Myrtle Beach. T's father, ST, was also present.

Police believe T planned to force Brittanee into prostitution, but after her disappearance received widespread publicity, he decided to kill her. At one point, Brittanee tried to escape and ran from the house, but she was caught, pistol-whipped and taken back inside. Brown says he later heard two gunshots and later saw Brittanee's cloth-wrapped body carried out of the house. It was supposedly dumped in one of the many local alligator pits.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WMBF) – A date has been decided for when the longtime girlfriend of Brittanee Drexel’s convicted killer will have her day in court.

The federal trial for Angel Vause, 56, will be held in Charleston on Nov. 18, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Winston Holiday.

Holiday expects the trial to last five days.

This comes after Vause rejected a plea agreement she already signed in the closing moments of a Tuesday hearing, electing to go to trial.

She was expected to plead guilty to two counts of making a false statement to a federal agent.

Even though Vause signed the plea agreement, Holliday told WMBF News that she legally had until the end of the hearing to change her mind.

Because of that, Holliday said he now plans to additionally charge Vause with kidnapping because she used a phone and car that weren’t manufactured in South Carolina to commit crimes in the state.

Vause originally reached a plea agreement with prosecutors in July and was scheduled to enter her plea last week, but new information was presented that altered the length of a potential sentence.

That information concerned different guidelines from another federal district regarding those charges, which would bring her maximum sentence to 16 years as opposed to 10. Vause previously faced five years on each of her counts but now faces eight on each count based on the new information. A judge later ruled to continue the case, leading to Tuesday’s final hearing.

Vause’s boyfriend, Raymond Moody, confessed in May 2022 that he and Vause picked up Drexel on April 25, 2009. Drexel was walking down the street, and Moody asked her if she wanted to party and smoke marijuana.

The three ended up at a campsite in Georgetown County, where Moody kidnapped, raped and killed the teenager. Her remains were found in the Harmony Township area over a decade later.

Vause talked with the FBI around May 11, 2022, and told an agent she went to pick up keys during the killing but was driving in another direction for a different reason, court documents state.

She also said that Drexel kept her cell phone when the FBI alleges Vause took Drexel’s phone and dumped it between Georgetown and Charleston counties.

Vause added that Drexel voluntarily joined her and Moody, but the FBI said Drexel was actually abducted “under false pretenses.”
