Attorney for father of missing Hampton toddler files to withdraw from case

As the search for missing 4-year-old Hampton boy Codi Bigsby continues, the case against his father for unrelated charges is making news again this week.

Codi's father, Cory Bigsby has been charged with seven counts of felony child neglect, stemming from incidents from before Codi was reported missing.

On April 5 he was denied bond in a appeal hearing.

On Wednesday, Jeff Ambrose, Cory Bigsby's attorney, filed a motion to withdraw from Cory Bigsby's case.

The motion lists "an ethical conflict has arisen that precludes further representation," as the reasoning.

There will be a hearing Thursday morning on the matter and we will update this story as we learn more.

I have to really wonder what is going on here in that all the judges recuse themselves and now his attorney has withdrawn with an ethical conflict???

So from my understanding the other 3 children are living with the mother’s sister, and she states that they just want to go on with their lives and to let LE and FBI do their job! So we asked her if she could give us any information on where Codi may be or different places they may have visited, like parks etc.. and of course she says NO!!! My heart is breaking 💔🙏🏼 #Codistrong #letsfindcodi #Stillprayforcodi as we enter our 10th week of searching
That seems like an odd thing to say when he's been missing for a little under 2 1/2 mths, To go on with their lives. If that is a direct quote. To me that statement sounds to me she already knows his fate. Who acts like they giving up interest in their nephew missing?. Especially him being so young and missing such a short amount of time.

Hmm. Not cheap and he has kids to support although physically I guess he doesn't have them at the moment.

Activist: ‘Please don’t give up’ on 4-year-old Codi Bigsby

It’s day 87, and still no word on what happened to 4-year-old Codi Bigsby.

For weeks, concerned citizens searched, pleaded for answers, and prayed for the child’s safety. In February, activist Bianca Renee Wilson snapped a photo inside a Hampton Walmart store.

“I’ve seen a few at 7-Eleven and mom-and-pop shops around here that have Codi Bigsby signs up that the police initially sent out, so the fliers are still up. The Hampton community has not stopped advocating for Codi,” said Wilson, who is the founder of the nonprofit organization No Woman Left Behind.

As the search for Codi continues, Wilson, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is recruiting others to join her mission.

“Please don’t give up. If you can just kinda make it more aware, have banners and fliers, go on social media and share what you feel online on Codi, and that will help keep his name alive,” said Wilson.

Cory Bigsby remains behind bars on no bond on the unrelated charges. He’s due back in court on June 13 for a preliminary hearing.

Newly hired attorney for Cory Bigsby sends 'cease-and-desist' letter to Hampton officials

The newly hired legal counsel of Cory Bigsby, the father of missing 4-year-old Codi Bigsby, sent a "cease-and-desist" letter on Saturday to multiple officials for the city of Hampton.

The newly released letter, which was specifically addressed to Chief of Police Mark Talbot, Hampton Mayor Donnie Tuck and City Attorney Cheran Cordell Ivery, states that "accusatory" comments made by Talbot during the investigation have "brought additional emotional, psychological and physiological injury to some of Codi Bigsby’s family members."

The letter goes on to say that comments made by the chief in the days and weeks following Codi's disappearance were "reckless, dangerous, and create conditions where the Bigsby family could be targeted for more harassment and potentially violence," and that they "further attempt to establish a false impression of guilt in the public eye, presumably in order to taint a future jury pool."

"Making these statements to a community that is deeply vested in locating Codi is tantamount to sending out a lynch mob to attack my clients,"
the letter said.

13News Now reached out to the parties addressed in the letter for comment, and received this statement from City Attorney Cheran Cordell Ivery:

The City is in receipt of the letter from Mr. Bigsby’s attorney and will not comment on threatened litigation, nor will it comment on the active criminal investigation into the disappearance of Codi Bigsby.

Matheny-Willard expressed that she and her client have no further comment at this time.

It’s been 100 days since 4-year-old Codi Bigsby was reported missing

Where is Codi Bigsby? It has been 100 days since the 4-year-old was reported missing from his home off of Old Buckroe Road in Hampton.

On Tuesday at 2 p.m., 10 On Your Side’s Aesia Toliver and Jon Dowding hosted a Q&A Facebook live on the WAVY-TV 10 Facebook page. These two WAVY reporters have covered this case since Codi was first reported missing. If you were unable to tune in live, you can watch a replay at this link.

Codi’s father, Cory Bigsby, is still in jail. Cory first reported his son missing on Jan. 31. Originally, he told police he last saw his son at 2 a.m. that day. Then, he reported him missing around 9 a.m.

Although police have named Cory a person of interest in his son’s disappearance, he has not been formally charged in connection with his disappearance.

“Keep his name out there. I always say, say his name. Or say Codi Bigsby, he’s still out there. Reach one, teach one. For every person you reach, they reach someone else,” she said.

I look at this case and think of the Las Vegas suit case one. I never thought it Codi as it was said to be more recent and LE there seemed to say he was ruled out or most likely it was not him. But LE in that case is holding back info on the child's appearance...

Then I look at this case now and the way the defendant is threatening suits, the judges were recused and all of the odd goings on...

The other boy had allegedly only been dead a week but had he...? I mean can't a body be preserved depending on whether or how stored...

Again, I never thought it to be him but reading this now, something just makes me think of the other one... Not sure why. Age is right... They can't find him... This one is odd in its goings on and the suitcase one is odd in not revealing appearance--is it because everyone would immediately know who the child was....?
