Kimster recently said on Troy's thread that around 1st Sept it would get dark at about 8 pm. This was Nov 19th so 8 weeks since the equinox on 21 Sept and only about 4 weeks till the shortest day on 21 Dec so getting dark around 5 pm would be my guess. I am wondering if it was two people on a bicycle with the pillion passenger wielding the weapon?
Yeah I would suspect it was dark although there may have been lighting. It was mentioned he was not far from home, near the school, tennis courts I think and so on so was it like some wooded path or one along city streets or coming out near them or parallel to such etc...?

For that reason I think someone could have been laying in wait and even gotten away by car.... Of course I also feel it could have been a biker, jogger but it also could just have been someone laying in wait.

13 years since violent murder of David Grubbs along Ashland bike path

November 2024

This Tuesday marks 13 years since the violent unsolved murder of 23-year old David Grubbs along the Ashland bike path.

Thirteen years ago this week, 23-year old David Grubbs was brutally murdered along the Ashland bike path.

Now the chief of police in Ashland, Tighe O’Meara was the patrol supervisor on that dark autumn night.

“I was one of the original responding officers to the scene and I worked on this case for all of 2012 and part of 2013.” O’Meara told NBC5 News. “Most murder investigations, most investigations in general, there’s an initial thread that can be pulled on that very often leads to a conclusion.”

"The lack of information, the lack of evidence from the get go has been really frustrating."

Grubbs, an Ashland high school graduate and Shop ‘n’ Kart employee, was nearly decapitated while walking home from work back on November 19th 2011.

Chief O’Meara says, “It’s an anomaly anywhere in the county, but especially for a town like Ashland that generally sees about one homicide every seven years or so, it really did kinda shake the community to its core.”

Back in February, Ashland police announced two new detectives had been assigned to the investigation.

"I have never and will never say that this is a closed case until it is actually closed. I’ll never say it’s a cold case, I‘ll never say it’s an inactive case. It’s an open, active investigation and detectives work on information as it comes in which does happen from time to time."
With detectives looking into leads, APD hopes someone comes forward with something to crack open this sad case and bring some sort of closure for David’s long suffering loved ones.

There’s still a reward of more than $21,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.

Christian Delaurentiis is a man that used to live in Ashland sometime ago. He moved to Washington County, Oregon and was since charged with and convicted of murdering his roommate in Aloha in Washington County,” said Ashland Police Deputy Chief Tighe O’Meara

According to Washington County Senior Deputy District Attorney Jeff Lesowski, Delaurentiis pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated murder and another count of abuse of a corpse. It’s been agreed to that Delaurentiis will be sentenced to life in prison for murdering and dismembering his roommate in Aloha, Oregon back in May 2012.

However, before that in November of 2011, detectives believe Delaurentiis was in the Ashland area when Grubbs was killed.
I wonder if LE ever checked this guy out.

I don’t know! I hope @Red Clover pops in soon and can clarify.

My understanding is the POI, CD, isn't willing to talk with LE
I haven't seen or heard anything that would tie this guy to David Grubbs specifically but LE may have reason to believe he was involved.

I did see news in 2024 that they have assigned a couple detectives to the case.

Here is the official site with documents

Here's a fairly recent episode of True Crime Tuesday that highlights David's case.
