A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

I watched the whole thing in 1 sitting... very well done...and just the poor girl.... just ugh
You mean you watched all 3 then I take it?

The first was well done so I would guess the remaining two are as well. I can't say there was a lot of new info in the first but it was a good refresher and there were one or two things I may not have heard before or had forgotten.

Hope to get back to it in the next few days

Haven't watched the above body cam yet but I definitely WILL BE.

I did finally finish the American Murder, her story.

It was worth it. The last two parts flowed fast, I did not even realize I had went from Part II to Part III while watching. I had only meant to watch Part II last night.

So much in them. Well worth watching. It really put all or most all together of what we watched come in pieces over many weeks and even months, etc. into one seamless show.

The as*hole transferred $700 of her money to himself. He told her she could have the van if she paid him for it. Huh? It was her van. Does he mean for his work or something? No idea. Then how he tried to create an alibi and was sending fake texts from her phone to family, etc. Then he lied right through his suicide note. Of course we knew a lot of this but seeing all again refreshed a lot and there were a few things not sure I knew.

Clearly the Laundries helped him and knew the truth.

On either thing that really stood out to me is when the park was not off limits again, LE is told the Laundries are going out there to look for him. LE says they also went out and were there. This seems like careful wording to me, meaning they did not do this with or arrange it WITH the Laundries, I think they simply heard they were headed there... Or some such so then they ran out there. People were maddened seeing his parents walking around with no LE officer near them! And lo and behold they found him and his backpack wasn't it? Of course they claimed to know where he liked to hike, go, etc. but still VERY odd...

Shows her family out at her final resting place. I had seen that before too I think. They spread her ashes out there. Now I'm not sure I would have done that BUT it's a personal decision and I can also see reasons they might wish to do so.

Anyhow, I now watched it all and am very glad I did. Has anyone watched the body cam yet? That's on my list, I have been waiting for that to come out for a LONG time and feel there is some reason it was held back all these years...

Those people...... the Laundries.... what they have done and will continue to do is unspeakable.... they obviously knew before anybody what their son had done

Yeah all the calls between them in one day shortly after and dad hiring a lawyer right after the first long call with mom...

I intensely dislike what they did and intensely dislike them for doing such but I will say I disagree with the ones who went nuts outside their home and over the top.

I wish they had been and could be charged and clearly Gabby's family still feels that way as well.

For those who don't want to watch the 3 part documentary although I recommend it, Grizzly put together like a 1/2 hour one with the things that were new in it. For one thing, Gabby was not killed at the river but moved to there, probably killed in the van. Gabby had told him also that he was going to be sleeping in the wood while she used the van so the thought is possibly was he camping down by the river and got irate and went up and killed her? That's Grizzly's thought anyhow. It is known Gabby was on her computer as late as 8:30 that night. Those are a couple of the things...

I was just talking of how the female cop's body cam footage has never been released and lo and behold, here it is! I haven't watched it yet but linking.

I'm starting to watch this and while I'll probably have more to say later, right now I just heard one of the cops say maybe he'd go talk to the independent witness. HMMM. So what came of that, do we know. THAT witness called in that Brian was seen slapping her in town. This is why they were found and pulled over to begin with! This was said right after one of the two male cops said to the other that she claims to be the aggressor. So it would seem they were going to ensure if that was the truth by talking to the witness. Well DID THEY? Or one of them??

I don't know that I will watch it all in one sitting as it's over an hour but I've started it.

I'm more than halfway through this now. There are some redactions and I'd sure like to know why and of what. If not names, then I see absolutely no reason for them, there is no "case" underway here that such can affect.

It's also odd that a few of the things on here repeat here and there. Not long periods but you hear something once and then later here is the same thing in a longer stretch of conversation, a repeat of the shorter thing later in a longer stretch. This should be an actual body cam I would think in which case, such would not exist.

Plunder enhanced the audio and yet at times it is still really hard to hear, the traffic noise is so loud at times.

If the female cop had not been there or mentioned maybe talking to Gabby, imo she'd have been sitting in the car alone all that time, wondering, while the male cops were with Brian forever kidding around on top of it.

The female cop had her calm and even smiling at times and conversing, now where I am at the male cop just came over to where the females are and is saying things to her and has her all upset and crying again. I couldn't catch it all but sounds as if she's in trouble, would go to jail, be fined, have a court date, is the primary aggressor. I believe we saw this part on his bodycam back when and it was clearer but it's been a long time since I watched those. I couldn't make out all but I did catch she's the primary aggressor and even in town he says it sounds as if Brian was just trying to get away from her, defend himself.... HMM. DID they talk to the person who said he was slapping her?? The entire reason they are there?

I also caught the reason she did not get a motel room but he did is he is the victim and she is the aggressor.

I'm not liking the picture and more so, there's just something about it all I can't put my finger on. Maybe I just have bias.

She didn't help herself in never saying he ever laid a hand at her, not just that day but any time. When he killed her, I highly doubt it's the first time he ever lost it on her. NO WAY.

Clearly he is controlling and the travel blog is an issue. She says he'd hike all of the time where she likes to sit at times and work on her blog. She says to the female cop that she supports his art and even posts his to his Instagram for him as he knows nothing of computers and doesn't know how but he doesn't support her want to do the travel blog.

She told the female cop they'd been on the road five months. If that was the case, he clearly controlled things as she'd not posted more than one video ever.

Again, I wish I could hear parts better and I don't know why there are bits and pieces that are then repeated later, nor what the redactions are about. To be fair, it is not a LOT of redactions thus far but there are some.

I feel there is something I just can't put my finger on. There is a reason this video was held back...

It took :Plunder THREE years of requests to get it and as far as I know, no one else has it yet. They used to borrow her copies but then Grizzly did so without asking and without giving her credit which was all she asked from anyone, so now she marks the discovery she pays for and gets so if someone takes them, it is clear it was hers and hers alone.

Why so long? Why did they hold this one?

I've got a ways to go yet. I WANT to know what the witness said who claimed a man was slapping a woman and IF he was contacted again for one thing.

Anyhow, just an update. Taking a break. It is long and the traffic noise at times and all, I can only do parts at a time, but am trying to do 1/4 of it at least each time.

It's also odd I can hear the female and Gabby when it's her body cam but when the male officer was over there, most of what I heard was traffic. Why? It actually is a clear recording when it's the two of them, just not when he comes over, etc. Pretty sure anyhow. To be 100 percent sure I'd have to go back to see if it ever happened when the two females were talking but I don't think so or at least not like it was when the male officer was there.

I also need to correct that I don't think he said she was going to jail but she was going to be cited, have a court date, had to stay in the van lone while he got a hotel room, etc. It was so hard to hear, it was unclear but in listening further, that was said then by the female to Gabby. I did catch the fact it was because she was the aggressor though that no hotel room for her, she would be charged, etc. and have a court appearance.
