A 22-year-old New York woman who documented her cross-country van road trip on social media was reported missing by her mother on Saturday after her fiancé returned to their home in Florida without her, reports said.

Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, embarked on their road trip on July 2 from Blue Point, New York, Newsday reported.
The two were living in a 2012 Ford Transit van and documenting their travels on Instagram and YouTube, often using the hashtag #vanlife.
Petito was last seen checking out of a hotel with Laundrie on August 24. She last spoke to her family on the phone the next day, telling them she had arrived at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming, her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said.

Her mother told reporters on Monday that she FaceTimed with Petito around August 23 or 24.
Petito's most recent Instagram post was shared on August 25.

Schmidt told Fox News on Sunday that she was unsure whether her daughter had left Grand Teton. She said she exchanged texts with Petito's number twice after August 25.
"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text," Schmidt said. "I didn't verbally speak to her."
Laundrie eventually returned to the couple's home in North Port, Florida, without Petito, though it was not clear when he arrived, the Daily Mail reported.
The police in New York's Suffolk County said Schmidt filed a missing-person report on Saturday.

"Petito, 22, of Blue Point, is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 110 pounds," the press release said. "She has blonde hair and blue eyes, and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads 'let it be.'"

The press release said authorities had recovered the couple's van during their investigation.
Petito and Laundrie had been living in North Port together for two years before they set out on their road trip, the Daily Mail said. Petito announced their engagement on Instagram in July 2020.

She could be anywhere as they were traveling cross-country. I put the location as the last place her family could verify that she was still in communication.

They did well. They accomplished what they set out to do. And I am sure on one side the attorneys are paid without problem. And I am on the Petitos side. I don't think they are the ones who it is costing too much in $$ to.

They had every right and reason to seek answers and some type of justice but it has not cost them in $$.

So if any of us win the lottery, we can help in some other case.

They wanted answers and they wanted to show you don't do this to another parent and they did. They accomplished that imo. And needed to show and all parents should see this who would think of protecting their guilty child. And imo that is what truly mattered to them, ANSWERS. It is a win and a graceful end to what would more accomplish, they accomplished what they wanted and I suspect in the private agreement they finished the last of it wtih the answers they needed. Jmo.

Okay you have to give it to Plunder for her efforts on info.

I have brought up intermittently and even yelled about that they have NEVER given the female officer's BODYCAM from the Moab incident. She has tried and tried and finally got it or some of it not sure yet, I think all, /I haven't even finished yet before sharing.

I'm not even through a fourth of this and I note how Brian kind of ignores the female cop for the males.. Responds but... Then the female cop asks a male cop what and he says no go ahead, she has a lot of anxiety but etc., etc.

I think we all watched the long male cop thing with Brian, I sure did. And I wasnt okay with how it became buddy buddy.

this woman from the start strikes me better by far and more neutral and professional BUT I have NOT seen all of it yet.

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - The family of Gabby Petito, whose tragic death brought national attention to domestic violence, is now dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for systemic change.

Inspired by Gabby’s story and determined to prevent similar tragedies, her parents, Nicole Schmidt and Joe Petito, have taken significant steps to address domestic violence issues.

Now, a local case has captured the attention of Petito’s family.

Although it has not been easy -- they’ve turned their pain into purpose, working to raise awareness and prevent others from becoming victims -- no matter where they are.

They say the recent disappearance of Amherst County mother Elsie Wiggington, and other missing persons cases, has them wanting to speak out.

“We don’t want to see anybody end up like Gabby again, no one deserves this,” said Schmidt.

Gabby Petito’s family is working to create change after the highly-publicized search and death of their daughter in 2021.

“Its all through Gabby, Gabby’s spirit is definitelt what is driving us,” said Schmidt.

Petito’s parents partner with The Aware Foundation, a local non-profit that works to bring attention to missing, murdered, and endangered persons.

Recently, Schmidt learned about a missing person’s case, one that she says resonated deeply with her, the story of Elsie Wiggington, a mother, grandmother and nurse.

Wow. Just wow...

I'm going to be very middle of the road on this one. I agree on the wow, just wow. Totally.

But...

I watched the body cams and did all here? I agree to a point and I also thought the time it all took and more was ridiculous by three officers To THIS DAY I have waited for the female officer's body cam when she was in the car with Gabby. Has that EVER came out? I do not believe it has. In all of this, I'm on the parents' and Gabby's side.

BUT Gabby as far as we know but for the video, did not speak up and even claimed she was the instigator, etc. and in fact some could look at it as Moab cut both a break in that no one went to jail when one or the other is supposed to in a DV call.

I'll add that this is NOT when she died or was murdered by Brian and not a single thing shows that anything at that point would have saved her from that. They were adults, you don't or can't call their parents or and say come get her or him as you could with a minor.

I think things can go way too far and I think that is happening here. Gabby was with Brian and chose to be apparently. She even lived with him in his parents' home, not hers. She went on this trip with him. She didn't call for help or get help after Moab.

She may have been a young adult but she was an adult.

I thought the Moab cops were ridiculous and even did a like guy to guy kind of buddy talk and the entire incident took FOREVER AND that BODYCAM has NEVER BEEN released from the female officer or DNR lady or whoever she was but she was there as enforcement. That NEEDS to come out.

I disagree though entirely that the Moab incident caused this or could have saved her with their handling short of imprisoning him for good. And we know there wasn't cause for that.

I entirely dislike what Brian's mom did which was to try to save him and cover for him imo. I can understand Gabby's parents pushing that one but even then I mean when is enough enough. And the people camped outside their home giving grief and more went too far as well. I am totally NOT in favor of parents hiding their son's murders stop to speak but all know now and enough is enough.

There is a side to this that is never talked of. And that is in Gabby's own choices and whether her own parents and family could have encouraged her to get away from him and come back home, etc. In no way am I saying she wasn't young, stuck, naive and in NO WAY did she deserve abuse or murder. However, she was an adult. He was an adult. Choices were made. She CHOSE to do this van up and go on a trip with him and he'd probably been abusive before. She chose to be with him.

Moab cut them a break imo BUT if she had died that night because they didn't arrest either, that would be different but that is not what happened.

I am totally on her parents' side when it came to getting the truth even to the point of taking it almost too far out of his mother and now out of Moab. I MYSELF want to see the bodycam of the talk with the female officer and I as a parent would not quit with suing until I got that and the public saw that.

However, beyond that, It think enough is enough. And most parents would be beating themselves up at this point a bit too. What did THEY not see, what could THEY have done, why was she with HIM and living at HIS parents and not at home...

I think that BODYCAM needs to be shared and other than that, It think this has gone ridiculously too far. She was a young girl who stayed with an abusive young man. Of adult age though.

Not a couple of minors whose parents should have been called as they were runaways or some such.

I agree with overturning every rock to get answers, I would want the same. But this isn't about that any longer.

I want to see the body cam. Not a word about that said. They just want 50 mill.

It gets to a point imo that it isn't honoring her nor trying got fix a thing.
