Haleigh's photo is shown age-progressed to 15 years. She was last known to be sleeping in her home, in the area of Hermit's Cove in Satsuma, Florida, on the evening of February 9, 2009. Haleigh was discovered missing during the early morning hours of February 10, 2009. She may still be in the local area. Haleigh's ears are pierced.

Haleigh was last known to be sleeping in her family's trailer in the 200 block of Green Lane in the area of Hermit's Cove in Satsuma, Florida, late in the evening on February 9, 2009. She went to bed at 8:00 p.m. Her father's live-in girlfriend of five months, Misty Janette Croslin (sometimes identified in the media by her later married name, Misty Cummings), went to sleep in the same room at 10:00 p.m. Haleigh's three-year-old brother was also sleeping in that room.

Haleigh's father, Ronald Lemyles Cummings, finished working second shift and arrived home sometime after 3:00 a.m. on February 10. Misty told him she'd just discovered Haleigh was missing from her bed. The rear door to the trailer was several inches ajar and the screen door had been propped open with a cinder block. Ronald and Misty called 911 at 3:37 a.m. to report Haleigh's disappearance.

The police found no sign of forced entry to the trailer, but they are uncertain whether the back door was locked. Ronald and Misty have insisted that it was, and Ronald maintains the trailer was broken into.

Haleigh's younger brother told investigators that a man dressed in black had come to their home that night and taken his sister. Authorities aren't sure how much credence to give to his story, given his age. An extensive search of the area turned up no sign of Haleigh. Her father stated she wouldn't have left home by herself at night, as she is afraid of the dark.

In October 2009, six months into the marriage, Ronald filed for divorce. He cited irreconcilable differences as the reason, mainly the stress caused by Haleigh's disappearance and the subsequent police investigation and media attention. The divorce became final within days; since Ronald and Misty had only been married a short time and they didn't share any property or have any children together, there was little to discuss.

Police repeatedly questioned Misty about Haleigh's disappearance and looked into the possibility that she wasn't in fact at home when the child disappeared. Misty describes herself as a devoted caregiver to Haleigh and her brother and said she had been home the entire night and hadn't left the children alone.

Investigators have been publicly skeptical of Misty's story, stating she failed four polygraphs and one voice stress test, and changed her story multiple times; they described her accounts as "consistently inconsistent."

Reality show delves deeper into decade-old disappearance of Haleigh Cummings in Putnam County

Ten years after a 911 call began an intensive investigation into the disappearance of Putnam County 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings, a new HLN series premieres with a new look into the case.

The documentary starts with the 911 call made Feb. 10, 2009, to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office as video shows a manufactured home on Green Lane in Satsuma.

“I just woke up and our back door was wide open and I can’t find our daughter,” the distraught woman’s voice says.

The next images on HLN’s new “Real Life Nightmare” program, kicking off at 8 p.m. Saturday, are of a smiling 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings, then her tearful father, mother and family asking to “bring my baby home.”

The new series will present stories of unsolved missing-person cases and unexplained deaths. The premiere episode presents new video of Cummings and Croslin at the Sheriff’s Office just hours after Haleigh had gone missing, and Croslin recounting her story to detectives.

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — It’s been 12 years since little Haleigh Ann Marie Cummings was reported missing in Putnam County.

Wednesday marks the anniversary of the day -- Feb. 10, 2009 -- that the 5-year-old disappeared out of her Satsuma home in the middle of the night.

The last person to see Haleigh was 17-year-old Misty Croslin, her father’s girlfriend at the time.

Haleigh’s father Ronald Cummings came home from an overnight shift and found that Haleigh had disappeared.

At the time, Croslin told police she woke up to find Haleigh’s bed empty and the back door opened. She believed she was taken. Years later, police found that her story changed.

Both Croslin and Ronald Cummings are currently in state prison on drug charges. Currently, Cummings is set to be released from Lake Correctional Institute in Clermont on Oct. 17, 2022, and Croslin is set to be released from Lowell Correctional Institute in Gainesville on Jan. 1, 2032.

“It’s kind of saddening because we haven’t figured it out,” Piscitello said. “This is a place where a little girl went missing from, an innocent child that had no control over anything in her life. She was merely a mechanism of her family and she is potentially gone because of what her family was or wasn’t, they didn’t keep her safe.”

In 2020, Action News Jax talked to Haleigh’s great-grandmother Annette Sykes, who was dying of stage 4 cancer, and her final wish was to find out what happened to Haleigh.

“I don’t have much longer and I want to know where she is and what happened to her before I die. I just want that little bit of peace, that little bit of knowledge. That’s all I’m asking for,” she said.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement on the anniversary of Haleigh’s disappearance:

“Twelve years ago our community woke to a real life nightmare with the disappearance of kindergartner Haleigh Cummings. Those who worked diligently to find Haleigh in the hours, days, months and now years have always held hope that someone will come forward with answers. We still have that hope. We still continue to revisit the areas where Haleigh was last seen in hopes of new information and new clues. We know Misty Croslin still has answers to some of our questions and she still has the opportunity to assist. We are saddened and frustrated that we are unable to give Haleigh’s family the closure they so rightfully deserve. Haleigh will continue to haunt our detectives as they try to find her and we will never give up the search.”

Anyone with any information on Haleigh’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 or contact the NCMEC at 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678) or the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office at (386) 329-0801.

The article said that Misty's story changed years later. I don't remember hearing about the new version?
Charley Project has this to say:

Investigators have been publicly skeptical of Misty's story, stating she failed four polygraphs and one voice stress test, and changed her story multiple times; they described her accounts as "consistently inconsistent."

But they don't specify what the stories were.

Thanks for checking! I just remember her saying Haleigh disappeared and about the brick at the back door.

A bit more. Helps if I keep reading... I do remember them searching the river after this story came out.

Misty and her older brother, Hank Thomas "Tommy" Croslin Jr., later accused Joseph "Joe" Overstreet of kidnapping Haleigh. Overstreet, who is from Tennessee, was in Florida when the child disappeared. He visited the Cummings home on February 9 and left only a few hours before Haleigh vanished. The next day he returned to Tennessee. Misty stated Overstreet had sexually abused her when she was a child and had been involved in criminal activity his whole life, although he is not registered as a sex offender.

Tommy was the first to accuse Overstreet of kidnapping, stating Overstreet planned to steal a machine gun from the Cummings residence and, when he couldn't find it, he threatened Misty with a knife and took Haleigh. Overstreet and Tommy drove to the St. Johns River, five miles from Haleigh's home, and Overstreet threw the child in the water. Misty later affirmed his statement, saying she had lied earlier because she was afraid of her cousin.

This story, to me, sounds like they were all part of it, if THIS particular story has any truth to it. If this happened, I would not believe Misty that she was threatened with a knife and just why did brother Tommy go with him, was he held at knifepoint too? I wonder if this was one of the stories she took one of the many polygraphs for?

Now she and the father are in prison for drugs? Oh and more of the group as well. Apparently even if divorced, there is still some connection here. I hope the little brother has some type of loving decent guardian.

So cousin Tommy just happens to come to Florida and just happens to visit the Cummings home and just happens to know about a machine gun he wanted to take from the residence and this was all unknown to Misty (and Tommy too?) and he just came by or something? Nah.

Interesting (and sad) they found the shirt Haleigh was said to be wearing. Interesting that Misty went to bed around 10 with the kids but just so happened to wake up around 3ish right around Ronald getting home and she noticed Haleigh missing just right at that time... I forgot the child had some medical issues. Well, she is not in jail over Haleigh but she did get 25 years on drugs apparently. I also had forgotten Misty was all of 17 when Ronald married her which was after his child's disappearance. Smh.

Oh yeah, I do remember when this happened. They took Misty down to the dock while they searched.

I think Haleigh got into the drugs in the house, whether given them or accidentally. There was a strong rumor that different family members were saying to this effect. So, instead of owning up to it, they hid the "problem". They were all very heavy into hard drugs at the time.

It wouldn't be hard to believe that since they and more of the very same group are in prison right now or facing prison for drugs all these years later. I think it said even Misty's parents, both of them.

I don't usually go this route with like "selling" children but I even had the thought of if the cousin truly did molest Misty as a child and maybe he was to provide them drugs or was owed for drugs and he came to get or was offered the machine gun in payment and/or the girl child or took the child in payment when he was upset the gun was not there...? They do say there is truth in most lies and it appears it was confirmed the cousin was in Florida and then went back to Tennessee like the next day after she went missing was it? And TN is not exactly a few minute drive to this part of Florida...

I have NEVER forgotten this case. I think Misty had everything to do with her disappearance. Why I don't know but I've always thought that.

Tuesday is HaLeigh Cummings’ 18th birthday

It’s hard to believe the little girl this community spent days and weeks looking for turns 18 years old on Tuesday.

For her paternal grandmother, Teresa Neves, the pain of losing HaLeigh has worsened each year she has been gone.

“It never gets easier,” said Neves tearfully.

She thinks about all the moments HaLeigh has missed at home. She would have recently graduated from high school, gone to prom -- all the things her grandmother missed about watching her grow.

“There are too many children who have been found since she has been gone,” Sykes cried. “They’ve been gone longer than she has, yet there they were. Why can’t I keep believing that she is alive? Those children were, and they came back to their families. We just have to wait for our turn, for her to come back to us, for someone to have the guts or the heart to tell us where she is or how to find her.”

Croslin is currently serving a 25-year sentence for drug trafficking and is not expected to be released from prison until 2031. HaLeigh’s father is also in prison for a drug conviction but will be released next year. His mother, Neves, said he loves HaLeigh and intends to resume the search for her when he is released.

I'm disgusted and sickened. Maybe OJ can help him find the real killers if he agrees to help him find the guy who killed his wife and Ron.

IIRC, RC had a better attorney than Croslin was able to afford. Add to that, LE has verified that RC was at werk when HaLeigh disappeared while on Croslin’s watch. Croslin is where she belongs. She may have even gotten a lighter sentence for manslaughter had she told the truth.
