Maui woman reported missing while traveling, family seeks help finding her

Loved ones of Ha'iku resident Hannah Kobayashi are trying tirelessly to find her after she reportedly disappeared while traveling to the mainland.

"We're just trying to not be paralyzed, in a way, not think of the worst," Kobayashi's aunt Larie Pidgeon said.

The 30-year-old was reportedly last seen at the Los Angeles International Airport nearly a week ago.

Pidgeon said Kobayashi had a layover in Los Angeles last Friday on her way to New York for a concert and a photography job, as well as to visit Pidgeon’s sister.

A friend of Kobayashi’s just so happened to be traveling on the same flights as her, Pidgeon added, and last saw her at LAX.

But then Kobayashi missed the flight to New York, which was one of the last of the night.

"That's when everything started getting fuzzy and we're starting to lose contact with her," Pidgeon explained.

A screenshot of messages Pidgeon said Kobayashi sent to the aunt in New York mentioned, "I just finished a very intense spiritual awakening."

Another text apologized for "craziness," adding afterward "was definitely intercepted."

According to Pidgeon, Kobayashi's last text was sent on the same day to her roommate, in which she mentions feeling scared, and that someone might be trying to steal her money and identity.

Since then, relatives have been having trouble getting in touch with her, and her phone appears to be unreachable.

"It (Kobayashi's phone) was pinging in the LAX airport and it no longer... it goes straight to voicemail," Pidgeon said.

"It didn't move from LAX airport so that is where we know that she last was."

It's been said that they planned the trip together before they broke up. They decided to go anyway since things were already planned and booked.
Along the lines of your thoughts, being in those circumstances, maybe it was as simple as her deciding that for whatever reason, she was absolutely not continuing on to New York with him. Then things spiraled from there.
It was also said that they did not sit together. I'm thinking she had 8ish hours to stew about it.

I am sure she will turn up. She was seen at this event on the Saturday night so may have decided not to continue her journey. LAPD need to step up the investigation.

Her statement about having her funds stolen also could be that she bought both tickets and he still went and didn't reimburse her for it.

Interesting posts from Reddit. One is allegedly from someone at a coffee shop in the Grove who saw her. Have a read.

I'm wondering if she had to take a break after the flight and seeing her ex sent her into a need to go to the restroom to have a cry or similar(or to make sure she didn't see him again) and then that made her miss her connecting flight. It doesn't sound like there was much of a layover time and no other flights to NYC until the next day. Missing that flight, on top of seeing him again, sure could make for a tailspin. I wonder if she left the airport before or after the connecting flight left. Has that been mentioned?

Now, her relatives are searching for the 31-year-old Hawaii native in LA and say they’ve come across a disturbing clue into the woman’s disappearance.

A day after Kobayashi went missing, she was spotted in downtown Los Angeles near a Metro station. She was with someone and did not look well, Larie Pidgeon, the woman’s aunt told KTLA 5. “She is not safe, and she is not alone,” she said.

I'm thinking she has had a mental break and now that could be making her very vulnerable. I hope they find her soon and in good shape.

Family has apparently said that she was seen running trying to make her connecting flight. (Posting on the Facebook group, which is now private, so can't find it right now.) Also thought I read that she was seen initially in line or trying to rebook. But again I can't confirm that is what was said right now so take it for rumor.

Regardless, she left the airport and sh!t went sideways. Mental break of some kind? Took/smoked something that was laced and caused it?

She had to have had her phone with her when she left. She was posting on Instagram. She made transfers on Venmo. So then, how did her phone get BACK to the airport? I think if that question can be answered, finding her will not be far behind.

Maybe her trying to rebook a flight either home or to NYC? Ot to retrieve luggage?

I'm skeptical. Once the $20k is reached I think she will surface. This will be quite quickly at the rate it is going. It is 64% funded already.

New footage shows missing Maui woman with stranger, family says

The family of a Maui woman who went missing in Los Angeles last week says new footage shows she was not alone.

Haiku resident Hannah Kobayashi was heading to New York City to visit her aunt last Friday, but missed her connecting flight out of Los Angeles.

According to the family, the new footage shows the 30-year-old in downtown Los Angeles on Nov. 11, which is the last day she texted a friend saying she gave away all her money and was scared.

That new video has not been publicly released, but her family has seen it. They say Kobayashi was not alone, and she did not look well.

“It has been confirmed that she did leave the airport on 11/11 in the evening and that she boarded the Metro,” said Kobayashi’s aunt, Larie Pidgeon. “She was not alone. She was with an unidentified person. That causes us extreme alarm because that correlates with the timeline of her going missing.”

Security camera footage shows the Haiku resident at LAX last Friday, where she missed a connecting flight to New York City. A short YouTube video shows her outside of an event in Los Angeles on Saturday.

“It’s bizarre. She was sighted and where she was sighted at the Grove, it seemed like she was in good spirits. She was probably just waiting for a standby flight and in her personality, she does explore,” Pidgeon said.

“We have spoken with people and they said that she was in good spirits. She actually charged her phone at one of the stores that we made contact with. He said she was lovely. She even filled out a mailing form with her address in Hawaii and said she would like to get information,” she said.

“Then on Nov. 11, we have been made aware of video surveillance of her getting on a Metro with an unknown individual that she didn’t talk to us about; we haven’t heard about,” she said. “She knows no one in LA. Our entire family knows no one in LA.

“We try not to think the worst,” Pidgeon said. “We’re trying to keep hope alive, but it has now been basically a week and a day since Nov. 11 when she was last spotted with this unknown person and didn’t seem to be okay, so our mind is now going to abduction and, I hate to say the word but, trafficked.

“We’re doing the best that we can, but the family at this point is now, we’re having to come to the reality that those things could be a possibility,” she said.
