Mom missing after video shows her leaving for son’s football game nearly 2 weeks ago

A security video shows the last images of a 39-year-old mom from Palms with her dog named “Seven” on her way to her son’s football game nearly two weeks ago.

Heidi Planck is seen leaving her house — with the dog following behind her — and she jumps into her silver Range Rover and drives away.

Her ex-husband says Planck left their son’s football game at halftime.

He says she seemed distracted.

In a bizarre turn just three hours later, in downtown Los Angeles, her dog was found on the 28th floor of an apartment building.

Planck, her silver Range Rover, her purse, her personal phone, and her computer were all missing.

Planck’s friends say the apartment building management has refused to allow them to look in the parking garage to see if possibly her SUV is parked there.

They also say apartment management won’t share building security tape with the police unless they get a warrant.

Planck’s friends and family suspect foul play.

“It seems to us that everything stems from that building where her dog was found,” a friend said.

“I think something has to have happened to her, to keep her away from her son,” said Danielle Nadolny, another friend.

Planck was last seen wearing jeans and a gray sweater driving a 2017 gray Range Rover with a black-and-yellow California license plate of U840X0.

California Woman Vanishes Suddenly, Dog Found Abandoned in Downtown Los Angeles High-Rise Building With no Known Connection to Missing Momhttps://www.crimeonline.com/author/ekilloran/

The family and friends of a southern California woman are desperately searching for the young mother after she vanished under mysterious circumstances.

According to CBS Los Angeles, Heidi Planck of Downey was last seen on October 17, the day her 10-year-old son had a football game. Her ex-husband Jim Wayne reportedly said Planck left the game at halftime, and said she seemed distracted. Planck, 39, was also seen on surveillance footage that day leaving a residence presumed to be her own home. The report indicates that sighting was after Planck left the football game, but the precise timeline remains unclear.

“She’s leaving the house. She’s got the dog following behind her. She’s got a tiny purse under her arm and she jumps into her Range Rover and drives away,” Wayne told the news station.

Three hours after Planck was last seen, her dog was found on the 28th floor of a a high-rise building in downtown Los Angeles, about 30 miles from Downey. Planck’s vehicle, purse, computer and cell phone have not yet been found, and it is not known why Planck was at the apartment building.

It is unclear how Planck’s dog was discovered at the building so soon after she was last seen, as her friends reportedly said they first became worried when she didn’t pick her son up from school three days later. Her friends now say the building management at the high-rise has refused to allow them into the parking garage to search for Planck’s SUV. They also claimed the management refused to share surveillance footage without a police warrant, according to the report.

Another one that doesn't make much sense. At least at first blush.

So it was "presumably" her house she was seen leaving from and that was after she left the football game. She is leaving the house and has a dog following her, has a tiny purse, jumps into her vehicle and drives away... And the ex-husband knows all of this apparently so it was shared with him by someone? Why is it "presumed" to be her own home, does he nor anyone else know if it was her home...? Weird way this is all reported...

It doesn't actually say the dog jumped in the vehicle with her but the dog was found in whatever building... They were concerned about her not picking up her son, her friends days later, but how did they come to find the dog or know any dog was missing, only she was missing right?

Makes no sense. Was maybe someone she knew called to get the dog and that is how they know that part and wonder whether her SUV is in the building, etc...

There are things missing here. There has to be. I truly don't get why no one knows if the video was of her leaving "her" residence...

For some reason this makes me think of the Prisma Reyas case in Texas... Last time she was seen was in an apartment building not her own and just as much missing info to this day unsolved as far as I know...

How do you find a dog three hours after she was missing but no one knew she was missing right until she didn't pick up her child three days later?? Weird. Is this bad reporting or missing info?

We all know no dog went to an apartment building, called the elevator and got off on the 28th floor. We all know he probably didn't run up 28 flights of steps in a stairwell... My guess is there is someone who lives here that someone knew she might go see....??? Or the dog was found separately/first or after and had a tag and they got a hold of someone....

Yet there is nothing said that this dog jumped in her vehicle with her...

I can only guess the apartment complex is a crime scene and they are processing and that is why the friends can't see or find anything out. One would hope anyhow...

Still this is odd... Her ex sure seems in the know of the video, etc. Doesn't the ten year old son know where mom lived? Did he live with her? Shared custody? Or with dad?

Anywhooo there has to be just a lot of missing info here...

my guess is drugs.
did she go to the apt and take her dog with her? OD?

I can see the dog being found before they knew she was missing if it had tags with contact info on them, but what I don't understand is why they weren't looking for her when her dog was found but she wasn't. That seems like when it should occur to them that she was missing, wouldn't it?

It crossed my mind as well. Her ex said she seemed was it distracted or something when she left at half-time...? In the surv. footage, the dog seems to have a leash on him and she was not even noticing or so it seemed but then I have no idea if the dog at that point got in the car or not...

There is a lot missing here and details are skimpy imo.

Yeah, My first thought was drug activity. I don’t know if she was involved with drugs, or the apartment management is involved and that’s why they won’t release the video. But something isn’t right.
i don't know if I think that is that odd nowadays... It's sad but I can see it... Liability and corporate America and rules...

I can understand them not wanting her friends in what is described as a pretty high end building I think I heard--meaning they probably provide security and privacyfor tenants, wouldn't want friends knocking on doors and coming and going, etc. One would hope they have been more forthcoming with law enforcement or that at least law enforcement has been allowed inside to check for her car, etc. even if they may have to get a warrant for video.

Saw something this morning that allegedly she had been in touch just prior to going missing with friends in New York so there is thought I think that maybe, just perhaps she went there but then they say she would never leave her child not picked up at school so who knows...

Federal agents and robbery homicide detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department went into Planck’s home with guns drawn on Friday evening, as the hunt for the missing woman continues. Sources believe that officers were under the impression that they might have been walking into a crime scene.

Reports state that the investigators are looking in every possible outlet of the home to find evidence. Photographers are on scene as well as nearly a dozen other agents, who are scouring every room, the garbage and planters around the home.

There are no indications as to what investigators were searching for in Planck’s home, but initial speculation states that this may have something to do with Planck’s business, as her employer is under a federal securities investigation for possible fraud charges.

Wow. Well that puts a new twist in this. I did watch a short video on this case last night (only found one covering it) that had her FB up and such with her current job and the thought did blip across my mind that such a business we do see things occasionally (far from always of course) like fraud, embezzling, insider trading, etc. Can't remember the name of the place. But then I dismissed it because I think she was like the executive assistant or administrative or something and I thought nah. I wish I recalled better more of what type of place it was. I thought stock, investments or financing or something.... Of course, that's assuming her missing does have to do with this/her employment...

Missing California Mom Had Argument with Boyfriend Before Disappearing: Report

The search for a missing southern California woman continues two weeks after her mysterious disappearance. While authorities have shared few details about the investigation, Heidi Placht’s ex-husband has spoken extensively to the media, and shared new details about Placht’s new relationship.

Placht’s dog was found abandoned in a high-rise apartment building in downtown Los Angeles, 12 miles from her home. It remains unclear why the dog was in the building or if Placht was ever there. A resident in the building reportedly tracked down the dog owner through the pet’s microchip, but questions remain about the circumstances. She works as a controller for Camden Capital Partners. Jason Sugarman, one of the managing partners at the firm, has been under investigation for a $43 million fraud scheme.

Wayne told Fox News he suspects the fraud investigation may have some connection to his ex-wife’s disappearance. He claims someone from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) called him on October 21, questioning him about Sugarman.

“I don’t know how she got my name and I don’t know how she got my number, but she called me and started asking me questions about Sugarman,” he said. “Something’s dirty here.”

Wayne also told The Sun that Planck had gotten into an argument with her new boyfriend a week before her disappearance, and that the boyfriend was not aware Planck had disappeared.

“They had been in an argument the week before so he didn’t know anything about her disappearance,” Wayne told The Sun. “He thought she was just ghosting him. He had no idea.” Wayne said the pair had argued because Planck wanted the boyfriend, who lived in San Francisco, to visit, but he declined because of work.

Despite the argument, Wayne told The Sun he does not suspect the boyfriend is involved in Planck’s disappearance.

“I don’t have any worries about him, he’s a great guy,” Wayne said. “I’m no detective for sure, but he seems like a really great guy.”

EXCLUSIVE: 'She knows where the bones are buried': Ex-husband of missing accountant Heidi Planck claims her boss - under investigation for $43M fraud - had accused her of 'siphoning money'

The ex-husband of missing LA bookkeeper Heidi Planck has claimed her investment firm boss, who is being investigated for fraud, didn't appear 'too concerned' for her after she disappeared and seemed more worried about recovering her work laptop instead.

James Wayne told DailyMail.com he believes 'the answer to Heidi's whereabouts lies with her boss, Jason Sugarman, and his company.'

Planck works as a financial controller, overseeing all employees involved in the accounting process at Camden Capital Partners, where Sugarman is a managing partner who is currently under investigation for a $43million fraud scheme.

Wayne said he received a phone call from an Securities and Exchange Commission investigator on October 21 asking him about Jason Sugarman and the firm.

'They were interested in Sugarman and his company. They wanted to know what I know about them, and just generally asked me what I thought about Sugarman,' he said.

Sugarman was charged by the SEC in 2019 with hatching a fraudulent scheme that swindled $43million out of pension funds and left a Native American tribe $60million in debt.

His business partner, Jason Galanis, was sentenced to 189 months in prison for his participation in multiple fraudulent schemes including the tribal bond scheme last year.

According to Wayne, Sugarman 'didn't appear to be too concerned that [Heidi] had gone missing' and seemed more interested in her computer when he spoke with his Sugarman's assistant shortly after his ex-wife went missing.

'While I was on the phone with his assistant, I heard Sugarman in the background barking at his assistant to tell me, "make sure he knows I want my laptop."

'There was no concern and all from my ex-wife's employer. It's a multimillion-dollar company, they didn't offer to hire a private investigator or put up a reward.

'The only thing they really seemed concerned about was Heidi's computer,' he added.

Wayne said he never returned the laptop and instead turned it over to the police.

He then spoke with the assistant again a few days later, but this time the employee accused Planck of 'siphoning off money from the company.'

When Wayne said he didn't believe the accusations, the assistant allegedly claimed they had 'proof' and sent him several of Heidi's personal bank statements.

According to Wayne, he never looked at the bank documents in detail and gave them to the police and soon as he got them.

He said cops later told him that Heidi 'didn't have a lot of money in her accounts.'

'It was pretty low of Sugarman and his minions to accuse Heidi of basically embezzling when she's mysteriously disappeared,' he said.

He added that he has no idea how her employer had obtained her banking information.

Hmmm. This is all strange. It seems it has something to do with the issues at the company/employer and the investigation. However, there are other odd things imo.

This ex-husband seems very involved and front and center... I get they share a child and maybe even remained close or good friends but I don't get some of the things with him....

So the employer he says wanted her laptop and the ex says he did not give it to him but gave it to the police instead... My first thought is how under any circumstances would the ex-husband have her laptop? In no way am I accusing him, I think her disappearance far more likely ties to her employment but he is sharing things, talking to people, had the laptop, believes her ex-bf, etc...

If the employer was in the background when the ex called the assistant and he was saying tell him I want her laptop/work computer back, that sounds innocent as to the employer doing anything to her, he didn't know where she was, did not care about her, but only about her laptop... Not saying it makes him innocent because it could be an "act" of course...

It is rare I think but this is a big time investigation, could she be in witness protection and is going to testify against her employer, she is the controller? Feds could have even "stormed" her home to put on a good show that they suspect her while she took info to the feds or was hidden so the employer did not think she let's say for instance "flipped" on him...

Or is she involved also in it, she is a financial controller with the company...? Did she disappear by her own volition? Or to hide until she testifies?

Did the employer under investigation do something to her to shut her up, or get her laptop, so there would be no witness testimony...?

I get the ex saying the employer doesn't care, didn't offer a reward, etc. but he then goes on about how much money the company has and YET this company is under investigation for tons of money in a fraud case...?? They still operate and have tons of other money? I guess it could be while investigation goes on...

The ex- seems very involved in this case and he was the last we know of to see her leave at their son's game's half time. Now I'm not saying that may not be corroborated by others or cameras, etc. Did he stay at the game during half time and is all that confirmed? He had to have been close enough or talking to her to know she was distracted, left, didn't come back for any of the game, etc...?

I guess for good measure we should throw in the boyfriend as a possibility. Just because he said he hadn't talked to her in some time, there is only his word for that he thought she was ghosting him, etc. as far as we know.

Not accusing, just saying these are the possible scenarios I can come up with imo. She did it (disappeared), the employer did it (to shut her up), the ex did it for reasons exes sometimes do (custody, child support, jealousy), the bf did it or I guess witness protection...

The dog is downright odd. It is also odd even though they have video and we can see the dog trailing her that they never say or show whether the dog actually got in the vehicle at her home... But we know it ended up in that swanky apartment building on an upper floor... I have said it before and will again, I doubt the dog opened the door to any stairwell and ran up tons of flights of steps nor pushed the elevator button and waited for it... She took the dog there or someone did imo...

Who raised the alarm? Wasn't it friends or the ex... She didn't show up to pick up her son... What I mean is law enforcement or the feds never realized she was missing nor raised any alarm about this missing woman, someone else did right...?

It's a STRANGE one.

New Video Shows Missing Woman’s Accused Fraudster Boss Leaving Box of Muffins at Her Door

Surveillance video taken at a missing woman’s California home shows the man her ex-husband believes is connected to her disappearance at her front door, leaving a gift behind.

CBS Los Angeles obtained additional video, taken from outside Planck’s home “a day or two “after she disappeared, according to the report. Neighbors told the news station that the man in the video is Jason Sugarman, a managing partner at Camden Capital, where Planck is a financial controller. As previously reported, Sugarman and some of his associates are under investigation for an alleged $43 million fraud scheme: Sugarman is accused of stealing funds from clients who believed they were investing in Native American tribal bonds.

The neighbors reportedly told CBS Los Angeles that Sugarman appeared to ring the doorbell before leaving the muffins outside the door.

Information Continues To Mount In Heidi Planck Missing Person Case

New information has continued to come to light over recent days in the Heidi Planck missing person case.

On Wednesday, detectives seized security video footage from the apartment complex building where Planck’s dog was found wandering alone on the 28th floor. The complex had previously been noncooperative when it came to the investigation, refusing to turn over any security footage without a warrant.

On Thursday, investigators revealed that they had found new video of Planck’s boss, Jason Sugarman, at her home just two days before her disappearance. Sugarman and his business, Camden Capital Partners, are currently being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission. Planck acts as Financial Controller for the company. The company is alleged to have stolen $43 million from unwitting pension funds.

Today, there are reports of new video that show Planck at the apartment complex just hours before her dog was found.

There are other reports that Planck’s ex-husband, Jim Wayne, the father of her son, was awarded sole custody of the boy in court on Friday, following his court request just days after Planck was last seen. They previously had shared custody of their son.

He cites Planck’s disappearance as his reasoning in requesting sole custody: “I urgently need these orders to put my son into therapy immediately, because he is completely distraught at his mother’s disappearance.”

Even more information indicates that Wayne allegedly took Planck’s work laptop and her personal phone on October 20, keeping them for more than a week before turning them over to authorities.

so why would the ex keep her stuff for a week before turning it over. I mean I get him getting the stuff if he wants to help, but keeping it for a week afterwards seems shady.
