Mother found dead in Loranger home; her car, 2 children are missing

A 35-year-old Loranger woman who had last been in contact with her family Tuesday night was found dead inside of her home, her car was gone and her two young children were missing, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office said early Thursday.

Her two small children, Jalie (6) and Erin (4) have not been accounted for, and detectives are asking anyone with information to contact 911 immediately.

"We can't do nothing for the victim," said Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office Chief Jimmy Travis. "Our priority is to find these children and to get them back to their family."

Travis said that Callie Brunett had been reported missing after her family hadn't been in contact with her since Tuesday night. Travis said because her car wasn't at the home, the family had no reason to believe that she was there, but at some point Brunett's father went inside to check on her and found her dead in the bedroom.

The manner of her death had not been determined, but Travis said that detectives believe it was a homicide.

He said the FBI and law enforcement from other parishes were getting involved and a foot search of the nearby area was going to be done. Travis said there was no indication that the children were nearby but that they were covering all the bases.

Travis is asking the public and anyone who knew Brunett and had maybe seen her recently to come forward with information about who she may have been hanging around or interacting with.

He said there are no identifiable suspects at this time, but there are photos of the young girls and Brunett's missing car.

Detectives say Callie’s car is also missing, described as a black 2012 Chrysler 200 with Louisiana license plate 859GML.

It appears they may be issuing an AMBER Alert, but it is not yet showing as active.

A mother's two young children are unaccounted for after she was found dead in her Loranger home early Thursday morning. State police have issued an AMBER alert following their disappearance.

Detectives with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office said they were investigating the homicide of Callie Brunett, 35, after she was reported missing for 24 hours and ultimately found dead in her home early Thursday.

State police issued an AMBER alert for two missing children.

Brunett's two small children, 6-year-old Jalie and 4-year-old Erin, were unaccounted for.

Detectives are searching for an unknown white male wanted for question regarding a domestic violence incident that led to Brunett's death. He is believed to be armed and dangerous and should not be confronted by the public.

Well would one call it cynical or logical for me to assume the kids' father has them and killed her and took her car. I guess less likely would be a bf, step but most likely father whether married or not.
Let me just guess also cynically what a lowlife deadbeat dad he is that he had to take her car...

I pray these girls are found safe. I don't like the remark that "we can't do nothing for the victim". While true, it is probably a remark that will get talked of. He can't do anything for the victims is true but not, he can find answers and justice and save her children...

I know what he meant but...

AMBER Alert is now active.

You know what is the damned fear in naming him? MAYBE if people knew WHO he might be found faster and they found safe quicker with hope.

They know who, that he is white, are naming all about him but no name.

RIDICULOUS. We see this all the time now as well. Stupid. Any bets it is the dad? Duh.

Next up. Boyfriend. Or ex boyfriend. It's going to be someone close. Just guessing. Cynicism and usually is.

Domestic violence so it isn't a stranger. If not dad and dad and her weren't married/together, then it is a bf or ex bf. And then the girls are entirely NOT SAFE as they might be if it was dad.

Still, why not name the dude? You've pretty much said all but that or shown all. AND SHOW HIS FACE so they or he can be found.

I guess worry about other things more than finding the children comes into play...

HE knows they are talking of him and SO they aren't not alerting him.

Mississippi authorities arrest man accused of abducting Louisiana children, 1 girl dead

A search for two missing Louisiana children has tragically ended.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office was notified by U.S. Marshals in Mississippi that they arrested Daniel Callahan in Jackson, Mississippi, in connection with a homicide, and a statewide Amber Alert was issued Thursday.

The sheriff's office said Callahan led authorities to his car, where 6-year-old Jalie Brunett was found alive. He then led officers to the body of 4-year-old Erin Brunett.

Jackson police said during a news conference that the surviving child was taken to a hospital to receive treatment, and they are working to determine the manner of death for the other child.

"Based on the crime scene, what it looks like, this may be the place where there has been some human trafficking done," Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said. "We see cages, small animal cages. This is very, very disturbing to me as a police chief and as a father to witness and see what I saw."

Daniel Callihan, 36, was booked into the Rankin County Detention Center in Brandon, Mississippi near Jackson.

Since he is being held at the facility in Rankin County, no charges are available at this time.

It is unclear whether Callihan will be extradited back to Louisiana due to Jackson police uncovering a possible human trafficking site as well as the separate homicide investigation in Mississippi.

The accomplice has not been identified.

The FBI returned to the scene where the girls were found Friday morning. An investigation of the area is underway.

Wade said Jalie was taken to a hospital to receive treatment for unknown injuries. U.S. Marshals confirmed that the girl's grandparents picked her up and returned her to Louisiana.

So did he bleach his hair? Trying to evade detection???

So accomplice is arrested and ther is a photo but still won't name the accomplice either. WTF. put the name out and GET info of those that know him or saw him. If you had enough to arrest and charges then what the heck is the lack of naming the person?!! God please do things need to change in this world. And fast.

And big splash about talking trafficking, cages, etc and the KIDS are named and dead mom and one kid is alive and one dead. Oh and the female accomplice also is not named.

If this doesn't bother people, I give up. Oh my we can arrest them have enough cause but cannot share their names so we can get valid tips while fresh from people who may know them or have seen them. Oh my. Project the one arrested. WTF is going on in this world.

AND does anyone care?

NAME THEM for crying out loud. Court and arrests and you name it are meant to be PUBLIC for good reason. In these last years, I've never seen such scary changes in our system and the secrecy as now. I lose track of the b.s. Let's think on it all and I hope people are paying attention to the last three or so years. Defendants now don't have to attend their own hearings or trial that THEY INSISTED on! That's a huge one. Should I get started on all of them? I think not. Everyone has seen them all and I truly hope have paid attention to the bs going on these past years.

And where are the reporters on this? There should be a jail log, recent arrests, etc.

if I heard my neighbor Joe Schmoe was arrested and I saw him yesterday, you can bet I'd be calling in that info to LE. How can you when you don't know it is Joe or his sidekick Julia that was arrested, etc. By the time I know I will have forgotten what day I saw him and what time because I had no idea it was important nor that he was arrested. Or her. Or the other one. Etc.

Daniel Callihan, 36, was booked into the Rankin County Detention Center in Brandon, Mississippi, near Jackson.

Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade announced that Victoria Cox, 32, was the accomplice arrested.

Cox was taken to jail and will be booked on capital murder charges.

According to Wade, she is possibly Callihan's girlfriend. Investigators are still trying to identify her role in connection with the murders.

Wade said officers got a tip that Callihan may have an accomplice sometime on Thursday. They tracked Cox down to the Hotel OYO.
