Titusville Police, FBI search for Titusville woman missing under “highly suspicious circumstances”

Titusville Police are asking the community for help in the case of a 72-year-old woman who is missing under “highly suspicious circumstances.”

Police said Jesse Kirk was reported missing by a friend around 9 AM on March 4th when she did not show up for her morning walk, which was highly unusual for her to miss.

Investigators later found Kirk’s burned car in a remote area of Christmas in Orange County near State Road 50.

Investigators said when they visited Kirk’s home in Titusville, they found 35-year-old David Armstrong Barber lurking in the area. According to police Barber had several new burns on him and appeared to be suspicious.

He was ultimately arrested for Loitering and Prowling in the area.

Detectives later discovered Barber is the estranged boyfriend of Kirk’s niece.

Channel 9 learned Kirk’s niece had reported Barber’s problematic behavior after their break-up multiple times.

A pending Criminal Case in Brevard County shows after their break-up, he was caught on a Ring doorbell camera trying to break into the couple’s old home.

Court documents show, in Orange County, Kirk’s niece asked a judge for an injunction to protect her from Barber’s alleged stalking.

That injunction hearing was scheduled for late March.

Channel 9 also reached out to an attorney for Kirk’s niece. He told Channel 9 that his client made multiple reports about Barber’s conduct and was fearful for her life.

That attorney told Channel 9 Kirk’s family is trying to process the latest developments in Jesse Kirk’s missing person case.

Way too many cases where we see someone who never should have not been in prison who then kill someone because some judge was soft, etc, molests someone, etc. And then watch the soft on crime types that say someone should be released. The Menendez brothers yesterday would be a great example. The idiot remarks I saw in a live chat, OMG.

Hope she's okay but @Mel70 and I yelled in tandem about this kind of thing. How many more people have died or been hurt because of soft sentences or release?

In that recent Florida one deputies were suspended and a captain demoted... THRee people dead and a child scarred for life with no parents now, nor grandpa.

Man charged with murder in death of Titusville woman

The Titusville Police Department announced Monday that a man had been charged in the killing of a woman who disappeared last week.

David A. Barber, 35, is facing multiple charges, including first-degree premeditated murder in the death of Jessie Kirk, who went missing on March 4. Barber had been arrested later that day for loitering, prowling and grand theft auto.

Barber is now facing the following charges:
  • 1 count of first-degree premeditated murder
  • 1 count of arson (vehicle)
  • 1 count of burglary occupied structure
  • 1 count of abuse of a dead human body
  • 1 count of theft
  • 2 counts of tampering with evidence

According to a probable cause affidavit, police arrived to Kirk’s condo around 8:30 a.m. on March 4 and met a friend of hers who let officers into the garage, where they encountered “a strong odor of bleach and cleaning chemicals in the air.”

The friend told police she and Kirk shared their locations via cellphones and that Kirk’s phone was last shown being on Court Street in an apartment complex across the street. The friend said there was a mutual friend of theirs who lived there, the affidavit said.

Police found Kirk’s Lincoln Navigator where her cellphone was last located, but later left after believing she may have been with the friend who lived there, according to the affidavit.

About an hour later around 9:36 a.m., Kirk’s friends and family continued to search for her where her vehicle was last seen and they noted that the vehicle was no longer there and that they noticed Barber’s vehicle, a Honda CRV, in the complex.

“This was suspicious because the niece hadn’t been in a relationship with David Barber for approximately a year, and to her knowledge, David Barber does not live or work in the Titusville area,” the affidavit reads.

According to the affidavit, Kirk’s niece told police she had received a text from Kirk’s phone at 4:42 a.m. that “implied Kirk was concerned for her safety, and she planned to go into hiding.” She told police this text did not sound the way Kirk writes or speaks and that she believed Barber may have harmed her aunt, the affidavit said.

Police then spoke with a witness who said they saw a man in the apartment complex around 1 a.m. walk back and forth from a Lincoln Navigator and a Honda CRV, as well as move the vehicles more than once.

Just after 12 p.m. on March 4, Barber returned to his vehicle in the complex, where police noticed he had a large burn on his right arm and that part of his shirt had been burned, according to the affidavit. When police asked him about his injuries, he said “he would rather not talk about it” and that “accidents happen.”

While police were questioning Barber about why he was at the apartment complex, officers were notified by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office that a Lincoln Navigator was found burned in the woods around 9:52 a.m. off State Road 520 and Highway 50 near Christmas in east Orange County. The license plate matched Kirk’s, the affidavit noted.

According to the affidavit, a witness said they saw a man holding his right arm as he was walking along Highway 50 in the area where the burned car was found.

Around 2:45 p.m., human remains were found burned just south of Haulover Canal and Courtenay Parkway and matched Kirk’s description.

Barber was arrested on grand theft of a vehicle and loitering once the witness identified him on surveillance video moving the Lincoln Navigator and the Honda CRV at the apartment complex.

During a search of Barber’s vehicle on March 7, police said they found evidence that he “planned the death of Kirk, specifically mentioning items needed, routes to take, actions he would need to mask his identity and elude those trying to find him,” according to the probable cause affidavit. Police then found items belonging to Kirk during another search of the vehicle.

How can we use monitors on the monsters and be able to keep those who are wrongly accused of DV free from having to wear them?

Maybe I missed it but I've been waiting for the motive in killing the aunt? I assumed it was a way to hurt the niece, or she was the only one he could get to, etc.? Or did he blame her for their breakup or something? It's very possible I missed something as I haven't put the time in in some of these more recent cases. Or was he in some kind of contact yet with the aunt?

He definitely sounds like a monster and a dumb one to boot, it didn't take long before he was arrested.
