Circumstances of Disappearance
Jodi Huisentruit, an anchor at KIMT television station in Mason City, Iowa, disappeared from outside her apartment as she left for work
at approximately 4:00 on June 27, 1995. Initially a missing person case, Huisentruit's disappearance was soon classified an abduction. When investigators arrived at her apartment complex they found her red Miata convertible in the parking lot. A pair of red women's dress shoes, a blow dryer, bottle of hair spray, car keys and earrings were scattered beside the car. The key was found bent and out of the door lock. Witnesses indicate that they heard screams at 4 o'clock that morning. Investigators are looking for a white mid 1980s Ford Econoline van. Foul play is suspected.

Huisentruit grew up in Long Prairie, Minnesota, where she was active in sports, excelling in golf. She earned her bachelors degree in 1990 from St. Cloud State University with a double major in TV Broadcasting and Speech Communication. Huisentruit worked for Northwest Airlines immediately after graduation, followed by a broadcasting position at KGAN-TV Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She then returned to Minnesota for a position at KSAX-TV in Alexandria, before joining KIMT-TV in Mason City.

Authorities investigate deceased homicide suspect's possible connection to Jodi Huisentruit’s case

Iowa and Wisconsin investigators are working together on a new lead in the disappearance of Jodi Huisentruit.

Now, the Mason City Police Department is working with the Wood County Sheriff’s Department in Wisconsin. They're focusing on a man named Christopher Revak, who killed himself in a jail cell in 2009 while facing a homicide charge in the death of a woman.

Investigators also believe he's responsible for the death of another woman back in 2006.

The lead investigator in Huisentruit's case says Revak's ex-wife was living in Mason City the year Huisentruit disappeared. And he says similarities in the cases of the other two women stick out to him.

Is this so they can "clear" a case by blaming the dead guy?

Person linked to disappearance of Jodi Huisentruit has died

One of the people linked to the 1995 disappearance of Jodi Huisentruit passed away earlier in December.

Private Investigator Steve Ridge says that John Vansice passed away on December 6 in Arizona.

Investigators have called Vansice a possible suspect in the cold case of the missing TV anchor from Mason City. However, Vansice had never been tried or charged with Huisentruit's disappearance.

Ridge reported in 2020 that Vansice had an aggressive case of Alzheimer's Disease.

And I add 😣 because sometimes I feel like when the suspected person dies, we’ll never find out the truth.
That's for sure and a good point. Or we do think we find out and like in the Tremblay case, justice does not come.

Old cases are not my thing, however, of course there are a ton I've followed since they happened, and a ton of others I've been into when others wren't active.

My reason is generally because there's so little info or discussion on them or new info I should say.

I DO care as much for all victims in any.

In this one, I believe they've likely known who it is, and just waiting for a body or further evidence do you think?

Investigator calls for search warrant related to Jodi Huisentruit case to be unsealed

An Iowa private investigator is asking a judge to unseal a search warrant in relation to the disappearance of a Mason City TV anchor 30 years ago.

Attorneys for investigator Steve Ridge filed a motion in Cerro Gordo District Court asking to unseal a 2017 search warrant. The warrant was for vehicles belonging to John Vansice, who Ridge says was a person-of-interest, and his wife. Ridge says Vansice died in December 2024.

“I think it’s time to lift the cloud of suspicion that has hung over Vansice and his family for many years,” Ridge said in a news release. “Authorities have stated publicly that the search warrant initiative ‘did not pan out’ and John is now deceased."

It would be interesting to see if they have been not following other possible leads and getting stuck on this guy or not.

Search for Jodi Huisentruit: Investigators fight for search warrant release

Attorneys argued in court on Monday for authorities to release search warrants related to the disappearance of Iowa news anchor Jodi Huisentruit, who went missing nearly 30 years ago.

The warrant was to obtain GPS data from two vehicles connected to a friend of Huisentruit, John Vansice, who has reportedly since passed. It's worth noting the GPS data would be from long past Huisentruit's 1995 disappearance, as the two vehicles involved were a 1999 Honda Civic and a 2013 GMC.

Authorities argued for the search warrant to remain sealed, saying its release could potentially impact the integrity of the investigation.

In court, a judge took the matter under advisement, saying a ruling would be made in the next 30 days.

To me, he has always stood out as the very likely suspect. I looked up not all that long ago the right to privacy. A dead person has no right to privacy is pretty much how it goes. Of course that's different than whether LE needs or wants something sealed. I only mean there isn't much for his right to privacy now that he's dead, nor if his family argued for such for instance.

I hope she gets justice one day although the perp may well be dead when it happens.

Search warrant to be partially unsealed in cold case of missing Iowa news anchor

An Iowa judge has ruled to partially unseal a search warrant in the cold case investigation of missing Iowa news anchor Jodi Huisentruit.

The main “person of interest,” John Vansice, lived in Phoenix for years before he recently died, and a 2017 search warrant included GPS tracking of two of his vehicles.

Despite some of the files being unsealed, what they aren’t releasing may give the most insight into the case.

It was bizarre when investigators filed a search warrant 22 years later for two cars belonging to John Vansice, a “friend” who last saw Jodi alive before she vanished.

Vansice told investigators Jodi had come to his home the night before to watch a birthday video he made for her.

Vansice moved to Phoenix years later and was named a “person of interest” in the case.

The search warrant was to put GPS tracking devices on two of Vansice’s cars as he prepared to travel from Arizona to Iowa, cars that didn’t exist at the time of Jodi’s disappearance.

“We know Vansice was subpoenaed by a federal grand jury at that same time to come back to Iowa to provide fingerprints, palm prints, DNA, things he could have done, mind you, in Phoenix, but they brought him back there. So, was this some kind of attempt to observe him? We don’t know,” said Caroline Lowe, an investigative journalist with the “Find Jodi” team.

Jodi’s family wanted to keep the search warrant sealed, fearing that releasing the information could compromise the investigation. The Iowa judge ordered the file only partially unsealed, stopping short of letting the public see an affidavit that would describe exactly what investigators have in the cold case.

“Keep going back to day one. What was said? What was observed? What was found at the scene? There must be things that we just don’t know,” said Lowe. Detectives and the State said just because Vansice is dead does not mean this investigation is any less active.

With the judge unsealing parts of the search warrant soon, we may learn a bit more, but likely not enough to solve the case unless new information comes to light.

“Everyone involved in this needs answers, but particularly Jodi’s family,” said Lowe.

The Mason City, Iowa, police chief has gone on record saying nothing substantial came from those car search warrants but didn’t confirm why they sought them in the first place.

The judge’s orders say the partial unseal will be available in 31 days.

He's always been the likely one to me but I will say why they necessarily think years and years later someone will revisit a scene, or burial spot, I guess it's a hope more so than a for sure thing when they don't have enough, etc. But he knew he was on their radar...

I don't like accusing someone not convicted but he's always been the fit imo. Of course that's not fair I guess but it would seem LE would hope people see they had reasons too but it was stopped short of sharing all the reasons for it...

He is the fit for me, but again, it is not like he was convicted so maybe that's unfair but I think they have more reason for thinking that than we know. Could be wrong of course.
