FBI assists Cornelius police with search for missing 11-year-old girl

The FBI announced Friday it is helping the Cornelius Police Department with its search for an 11-year-old girl who was last seen on Nov. 23 at her home, according to police.

Which probably means not reported until the school contacted them about her extended absence. Not liking this one.
Precisely. Wouldn't be surprised if the SRO showed up at their home to inquire. (My thoughts only, not confirmed.)
Thankfully it happened now, as most schools are heading into winter break in the next few days or so.
I do wonder what her last confirmed date at school was, since it says she was seen at home 11/23. By the people who didn't report her missing.

Madalina Cojocari has been missing since Nov. 23. She was last seen that day in Cornelius.

So stepdad was arrested. Is he her legal guardian? Where is her mother?

Law enforcement were seen digging the backyard of the home on Victoria Bay Drive on Friday. Meck County property records show Christopher Palmiter and Diana Cojocari purchased the two-story house in 2017.

FWIW there is something about about the age gap between these 2 adults that's unsettling. Perhaps just my overactive imagination.
37 and 60. I'm kind of a "let two consenting adults do their thing" most of the time. But he IS old enough to be her father. And with the child there's always cause for extra caution. So yeah.

Authorities say Madalina’s parents went to Bailey Middle School Thursday and told a school resource officer the girl was missing. Friday afternoon, only WCCB News was on the scene at the girl’s Cornelius home as investigators with the FBI and SBI spent hours digging in the ground in her backyard, and searching for evidence inside the home. Neighbors stood by and watched in disbelief.

“I’ve lived here my whole life so I’ve never seen anything like this,” says Sydney Capps, a neighbor and social worker. She says the entire neighborhood is baffled by Madalina’s disappearance.

“It’s odd that it seems like she went missing back in November, and it’s just now being reported,” Capps says.

Cornelius Police did not say if they found anything of importance during their search of the girl’s home, but they did say they are still searching for her.

BBM..my thoughts exactly! She is 11 so 1 night away from home should have caused alarm in most parents IMO

I saw somewhere that her last confirmed school day was on the 22nd on the last day before Thanksgiving break.
