OH MADISON BELL: Missing from Greenfield, OH - 17 May 2020 - *Found Safe*

Madison “Maddie” Bell left her home in Greenfield, Ohio, around 10 a.m. Sunday morning to go tanning at Country Corner Market, Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera told Dateline. But there is no evidence that she made it to the salon, he said.

He added that she was never spotted in Highland County and that the last time she was seen was at her home.

“I was cleaning when she left and she yelled out, ‘Mom, I’m going to tan. I’ll be right back,’” Maddie’s mother, Melissa Bell, told Dateline as she struggled to hold back tears. “But she never came back.”

Melissa said she could always trust Maddie to go straight to the tanning salon and come right back. Sometimes Maddie would stop at McDonald’s for an iced coffee. But when she did, she would always call or text so her mother didn’t worry.

As the hours passed with no word from Maddie, Melissa said she began to panic.

“I tried not to panic - I know she just turned 18,” Melissa said. “But something felt wrong.”

Maddie’s boyfriend also attempted to reach her, but Melissa said he was unable to. Melissa tracked her daughter’scell phone and it pinged back and forth between the tanning salon and a church near the salon.

So Melissa and Maddie’s boyfriend drove toward the tanning salon keeping their eyes on the road and embankments, thinking she might have been in a car accident.

“Every possible scenario was playing through my head,” Melissa said. “But I never imagined this.”

When they pulled up to the Good Shepherd Church which is located on S.R. 28, just 100 yards from the tanning salon, they spotted Maddie’s car in the parking lot. It was unlocked and the keys were in the ignition. Maddie’s cell phone was on the driver’s seat.

“She would have never left her cell phone in the car,” Melissa said. “And we don’t know if she pulled into this parking lot on her own or if someone coerced her to stop. She was a very cautious girl. She wouldn’t have stopped for someone she didn’t know.”

Sheriff Barrera told Dateline they received a report from a church employee who had spotted a white car with California plates in the parking lot early that Sunday morning.

Although it strikes fear for her in my heart, this is a pretty clear picture, often they are not so hopefully this will lead them to her in short order. He seems to be either unaware of or unconcerned about the camera...

by the looks of the chip bag in his hands, it was probably taken at a convenience store or similar.

Nix that. it's a slim jim box on a counter, but still at a convenience store or store of some kind and not at the church.

It is? I looked hours ago and thought it was either Sun Chips or M&Ms (peanut). I also thought he was outside. I need to go look again.

Hmm. Is he at like an outdoor counter? I know some businesses are doing things that way... Or like a pay window?

I would think in very short order someone will name him. Although I went looking for the picture independently last night and had a hard time finding it. I hope it has been shared widely by now.

I'm not sure but the floor appears to be polished concrete. You don't find that often in an outdoor environment.

but it could just be that the surface is wet?
Yeah, I'm not sure either. It gives me the feel of outside as I think inside would have more items displayed than empty space but then who knows these days? Is the blue thing a trash receptacle? That would also lead me to believe it is outside.

So if he did this, he apparently was at the convenience store/market which she apparently was also headed to to tan but her car ends up in the church parking lot...

Rescue 101 SAR & Texas Equisearch is looking for volunteers to join a large-scale search on foot and by ATV, according to the Facebook page Madison Bell Search.

Searchers are asked to arrive at 8:00 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday to sign in at 12646 Centerfield Rd., Greenfield.

“Please remember to pack for the weather. If you plan on attending one or both days we are asking you to sign up so that we know how many searchers to plan for. Searchers must be over the age of 18 and present a valid photo ID," the Facebook page reads.

FOX19 NOW asked Maddie’s parents Thursday if they recognize the man in the photo. They say they do not, though Mann says he feels like he’s seen the man before, he just doesn’t know where.

Sheriff: We’re looking at all sides of the disappearance of Madison Bell

Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera said the goal of the investigation into missing 18-year-old Madison Bell is to figure out where she went.

“We found some video from the Country Corner Market of this male subject,” said Sheriff Barrera by phone. “He’s a person of interest. We need to talk with him to find out what he knows about the investigation.”

The sheriff explained that the investigation can get frustrating, because they want answers.

“We’re trying to get the tag [license plate] enhanced through the FBI and other agencies that have enhancing abilities.”

The sheriff said investigators are waiting for data to come back from Bell’s phone. It, along with other personal belongings, was found in her car.

Sheriff Barrera said they are considering all angles — they have not ruled out that Madison possibly disappeared of her own free will, and may not want to be found.

“The possibilities are always there. We’re looking at both avenues,” he said. “Hopefully, if Madison did decide to take off and leave, if she sees any of this, that she will contact somebody to let them know that she’s okay.”

That is why investigators are looking into the case. They need to know if she was abducted or not.

“We’re not going to call off anything on this one. We’ll continue looking for Maddie and hopefully we’ll get our closure soon,” said Barrera. “Right now we just need the public’s help at identifying this young man… so we can find him and talk with him.”

Anonymous tips can be reported to Southern Ohio Crime Stoppers by visiting their Facebook page and clicking “use app” or by calling 800-222-TIPS.

Madison Bell: Sheriff receiving leads, but no ID yet for man sought; reward now offered

Southern Ohio Crime Stoppers are now offering a $15,000 reward for information about the whereabouts of missing Highland County 18-year-old Madison Bell.

Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera told News Center 7 Friday new leads are coming in about a man who deputies want to interview, however the leads have not produced the name of this person.

Thursday, investigators released a photo of a man and a white car that they believed was in the area Bell was last seen May 17. Barrera said there is no confirmation Bell was in the car, however both the white car, and her car, were at the church in the same parking lot.

The case is being investigated in two ways: First, that Bell was abducted. The second, she turned 18-years-old and decided to leave the area.

Barrera said if the second idea in the case is true, he hopes someone can let everyone know she is safe.

Crews prepare for massive weekend search for Highland County teen

Thousands of volunteers will gather Saturday to assist in search efforts for a Highland County teen.

David Rader is with the midwest chapter of Texas Equusearch, a high level search and rescue organization for missing people.

"We want to just be well prepared and burn as much daylight as we possibly can tomorrow," Rader said.

He said the plan is to send volunteers out in groups to look for any sign of Maddie.

This will happen as investigators continue to look for a man wanted for questioning in connection to Maddie's disappearance.

Drones and other technology will be used over the weekend too, covering more than 20 miles of territory.

"Anything that has to do with Maddie, a piece of clothing, just anything that would have anything with her ID," Rader said.

A new flyer, shows what people should be looking for: a pink Destin shirt Maddie's family believes she was wearing, as well as a ghost tattoo she had on her side.

The search will begin at 8 a.m. and go until 6 p.m. Saturday. It's expected to continue Sunday as well.

Those who want to come help should wear boots and long pants to protect against ticks and other insects during the search.

I can't believe with such a clear picture that they do not have a name for this man yet? I wonder if it needs to be circulated more and wider than it has been?
