Dad, 2 Children Missing in California After Mom Found Dead

Police are investigating the death of a woman in Sacramento while looking for her two children and the children’s father.

Sacramento police said they were called to the scene just before 7:30 p.m. on Monday and found the woman dead. The did not provide any information about how the woman died or her name.

Detectives said they had been unable to locate the two children, 4-year-old Athena Lee and 2-year-old Mateo Lee, or their father, 38-year-old Camron Lee.

Police say 2 children missing after mother killed in Sacramento home may be in Mexico with father

Police are trying to reach the father of two children who went missing after a woman's death in a Sacramento home.

According to the Sacramento Police Department, officers responded to a medical aid call along the 3700 block of Didcot Circle just before 7:30 p.m. July 8.

Police found 28-year-old Angelica Bravo inside the home. She was ultimately pronounced dead.

Detectives responded to investigate the death but during the investigation, they were unable to find Bravo's two children, four-year-old Athena Lee and two-year-old Mateo Lee, or the father, Camron Lee.

A police spokesperson says the children are considered missing, but Lee is not. They are only trying to speak with him to get more information about the whereabouts of the children.

Police said Camron could be driving a grey 2023 Honda Passport, with license plate 9JUS091. They later said Tuesday morning it's believed to be in Mexico, meaning the criteria for an AMBER Alert hasn't been met.

2 kids went missing after their mother was found dead. Why did CHP never issue an Amber Alert?
It’s been more than three weeks since authorities found Angelica Marie Bravo dead in a Sacramento home and detectives determined her two youngest children, Athena Lee, 4, and Mateo Lee, 2, were missing and believed to be in a vehicle driven by their father, Camron Lee.

Detectives are still looking for the children, and their father identified as a “person-of-interest” in their disappearance also remains missing. Last week, authorities found the vehicle believed to be driven by Camron Lee abandoned in a Mexican beach town about 70 miles south of U.S. border.

Officer Anthony Gamble, a Sacramento Police Department spokesman, said they continue to work with federal, state and local law enforcement officials.

“We don’t know where the kids are,” Gamble said Wednesday. “We’re hopeful they’re in the Southern California region.”

But the California Highway Patrol never activated an Amber Alert, a statewide alert that is triggered to help find missing children and others at risk. Sacramento police said the case of the two missing children didn’t meet the requirements for an Amber Alert.

On July 9, the Sacramento Police Department asked the CHP to activate an Amber Alert for the missing children, Jaime Coffee, a CHP spokesperson, told The Sacramento Bee.

But an Amber Alert was no longer an option for the Sacramento missing persons case after federal authorities confirmed the vehicle believed to carrying the missing children and driven by their father was spotted heading south into Mexico.

“While preparing to activate the alert system, it was confirmed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the suspect vehicle had entered Mexico the prior day,” Coffee said in an email. “The CHP can activate an AMBER Alert in California, however, once it goes to Mexico, our AMBER Alert is no longer an available option.”

Coffee said the CHP told Sacramento police to contact the CHP if they had any indication that Camron Lee or the children had returned to the United States, and an Amber Alert would then be issued.

Two days later, the CHP issued an Endangered Missing Advisory for the missing children after Sacramento police provided a specific investigative update in the case, Coffee said. The CHP’s Mexico Liaison Unit in Border Division has been provided details of the missing persons case, who in turn passed on the information to the Mexican authorities.

Authorities found Bravo dead on the evening of July 8 in a home in the 3700 block of Didcot Circle in the Oak Knoll neighborhood in North Sacramento. She once shared the home with Camron Lee, she and the children had since moved out to a south Sacramento apartment.

Investigators still don’t know how the 28-year-old mother died. Sacramento County Coroner Rosa Vega told The Sacramento Bee last week that they were still awaiting a toxicology report among other findings, and the “results could take months.”

Camron Lee has not been identified as a suspect in the woman’s death. The Police Department spokesman said the missing remains considered only as a “person-of-interest.”

“We still don’t have a cause of death,” Gamble said Wednesday. “We don’t know how this death will be labeled.”

I kind of talked on this in the Adam Walsh thing not so many hours ago, how is, Wetterling's, the Amber Alert all store to make a difference and DID, not to take away from the efforts but look at where we are now. It is just such total b.s., red tape, however. These children are TWO and FOUR, they are toddlers, preschoolers. This stinking red tape needs to end, there are CHILDREN missing. BABIES.

I don't CARE if dad crossed into Mexico although the border is it's own subject, you have a DEAD mother, two babies and a car and a man and you can't issue an AMBER ALERT at least on this side?

Idiots run the world. And Cali, well I won't comment further.

WHERE are these BABIES? It should be no HOLDS barred. Have some freaking common sense and make the system WORK. They are CHILDREN, FIND THEM, there shouldn't be ANYTHING to navigate.

Idiots and IDIOT systems. SMFH. And I NEVER used the F word, ever in 60 years. It's just beyond ridiculous though any longer.

Family, friends creating $10,000 reward for safe return of kids missing for nearly one month

The family of two young children missing for nearly a month is still searching for them and is pushing police to provide more updates on the investigation.

Sacramento police said there is a possibility Athena and Mateo were dropped off somewhere in Southern California, where Camron has ties, but that is still unclear.

Nearly a month later, with little to no answers, family members and close friends said they are creating a $10,000 reward that they are offering to anyone who can bring Athena and Mateo back home.

“That’s a lot of money for the safe return of those kids. Bring the kids back. Bring the kids back,” Phillip Bravo, Angelica’s father, said.

The family also said that they believe the Sacramento Police Department is not being transparent about the investigation.

“Sac PD fumbled. They fumbled really bad. That’s heartbreaking. It’s very concerning,” Phillip said. “We are not okay with what they are doing, you know what I mean. The work they are doing, I feel, is not adequate enough.”

Angelica’s aunt Marisa Beltran added, “The police only told us that we’re getting closer and closer, but that’s not telling us enough. We just really are terrified to even knowing if these kids are okay. And we’re stressing out every day by the minute.”

A spokesperson with the Sacramento Police Department told KCRA 3 that detectives just had a meeting Tuesday afternoon about this case, adding that they are working around the clock alongside their federal, state and local partners. They also said that they could not disclose a lot of the details of the investigation because they did not want to jeopardize the search for the two children.

But loved ones said they feel left in the dark, so they are looking to take matters into their own hands to bring Athena and Mateo back home.

“We’re ready to go out there ourselves and put our lives in jeopardy to go find them ourselves, because we feel like they’re not doing enough,” Marisa said.

Gilbert Bravo, Angelica’s younger brother, added, “Are we going to have to do this on our own? Because we’re going to basically risk our lives to go find them.”

Family and friends are still working on the details of the $10,000 reward for the safe return of the two children.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office told KCRA 3 the cause of Angelica’s death is still pending. They are waiting for autopsy results to come back, which they said could take months.

Unless they are corrupt and really are not doing their job, there are reasons they are not sharing, even with the family. However, they should be giving the family some "whys". Like that they need her cause of death for one. That they can't jeopardize or alert anyone as to how close they are. And so on. Basically do some hand holding and even that is not going to stop the terror about kids that are missing.

This has been a long time though and if so many are on it, then why so far no results?

I'd have to refresh on this but her cause of death may be a big thing they need.

'It's just been a nightmare': Funeral held for mother of two missing kids from Sacramento

Loved ones of a Sacramento County mother who died last month laid her to rest on Tuesday.

The family of 28-year-old Angelica Bravo held her funeral and burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery and Funeral Center. Dozens of people shared warm embraces and placed white roses at Angelica’s final resting place.

Just more than five weeks later, the uncertainty of what happened to Angelica and where her two youngest kids are continues to weigh heavily on loved ones.

“It’s just been a nightmare. This month has been like a nightmare that I can’t wake up from. It’s just been really difficult, and I’m not sure how I’m getting through the days,” Angelica’s mother Dawn Bodea said. “Just overwhelmed and sad.”

Now, as the family grieves the loss of one life, they are hoping for the safe return of two others: Athena and Mateo. Sacramento police said the car Camron was believed to be driving was found abandoned in Ensenada, Mexico. Authorities had also said that they think the two children might have been dropped off somewhere in Southern California, where Camron has ties. But at this point, Lee and the kids have still not been found.

The family said they are pleading with Camron and anyone who may have the kids to return them home safely.

“I just hope he brings them home or somebody speaks out and says that have them or they know, because that’s really the biggest thing right now,” Gilbert said.

Dawn added, “It’s agonizing not knowing where they are and if they’re okay, you know, and just pray every day and every night, like every second we’re thinking about them and wanting to bring them home.”

KCRA 3 reached out to Sacramento police Tuesday to see if there was any progress in the work being done to find Athena and Mateo. A spokesperson sent the following:

“There are no updates at this time. We are still actively working with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to locate the children.”

Sacramento kids who vanished after mother found dead still missing three months later

Police have been searching for Athena and Mateo Lee for three months now since they went missing after their mother, Angelica Bravo, was found dead inside a North Sacramento home on July 8.

The Sacramento Police Department said there has not been much change in the investigation, but they are still diligently working on it with state, federal and local agencies.

"Boisterous, fun-loving kids that are loud and a lot of fun," the kid's grandmother, Dawn Bodea, said.

Bodea said that laughter and joy from her grandkids, 4 and 2, have not been felt in her home since they went missing.

"There's things they can't really tell me because it's an active investigation and they don't want to jeopardize anything moving forward," Bodea said.

Since July, investigators have been telling Bodea the same thing, that they believe the kid's father, Cameron Lee, took off with the kids and crossed the border into Mexico or possibly dropped the kids off somewhere in Southern California.

There are still no answers to how the kid's mother, Angelica Bravo, died. Her little brother recently got a tattoo of her face on his leg in her honor.

"If there was cause of death of the mother to be homicide, then it's going to really amp up how they are searching for the kids," said Mark Reichel, a local attorney unrelated to the case.

Reichel said the Sacramento County Coroner's Office has been backlogged for years.

"You can wait up to a year for the final report, but usually you're looking at six months which is such a long time for families who are grieving," Reichel said.

The long wait is standard for the industry, according to a Sacramento County spokesperson who said that even after post-mortem examination, a forensic pathologist may order more tests such as toxicology, histology, and other genetic testing.

The coroner's office could not tell us if these tests had been ordered for Angelica Bravo.

"It's hard," Bodea said. "I mean, I am doing OK but it's just really hard."

Bodea and her loved ones are turning to their faith as they wait for answers.

"I miss them so much," Bodea said. "I just really miss them."

Bodea's family is offering a $10,000 reward for anyone with information that will lead to bringing the two children home safely. They hope someone will see the pictures of the kids and speak up if they know anything about what happened to them.

We were told hopefully six and might be longer. We waited 4. They do send out for more after intiial autopsy in many a case. It isn't unusual.

And to be fair, in honest places, and rightfully so, one case can not be put ahead of another in line nor rushed. Most contract for the further extensive testing.

Really hard on a waiting family though.

And that's just the mother's results and still unknown where the kids are or whether safe.

Prayers.

I'm talking to no one. Jmo.

'Somebody has to know something': A grandmother's plea as search for missing Sacramento children continues

A grandmother is making a desperate plea to find her grandchildren less than a week before Christmas.

Angelica Bravo, 28, was found dead inside a home in North Sacramento almost six months ago, and her children are still missing along with their father.

Bravo was buried at St. Mary's Cemetery and Funeral Center back in August. Her family is still searching for answers.

Dawn Bodea visits her daughter's grave site weekly. She brought fresh flowers and Christmas decorations Thursday to mark the holiday.

"(I'm) just missing her a lot, just thinking a lot about what she loved about Christmas," said Bodea.

Since Bravo's death, her family and the Sacramento Police Department have searched for her two missing children, 4-year-old Athena Lee and 2-year-old Mateo Lee.

The children are believed to be with their father, Camron Lee, who police are still calling a person-of-interest. His car was last seen crossing the Mexico border.

"I mean it's been incredibly difficult for the whole family. Obviously, we miss her a lot, but we really miss Athena and Mateo. That's been a really big piece of what's so hard to kind of really just move forward in our grief because I feel like we're just a little stuck because there's so much unknown about the kids," said Bodea.

The family says they're still waiting on an official autopsy report. ABC10 reached out to the Sacramento County Coroner's Office on Thursday, who said it can take up to six months for a cause of death to be determined.

Bodea feels having it will allow for clarity and help them with more resources to find the children.

"Having a homicide ruling on her autopsy report will then obviously put into effect a lot of different things that will happen," said Bodea. "From my understanding that should help speed up or at least start the process for certain things to be happening with finding the kids."

The family is also seeking justice for a once joyful mother of three who loved the holidays.

"I know somebody has to know something out there and just hopefully keeping their pictures around and the awareness about them being missing...Somebody might see them and can say, 'Hey, I remember them,' and be able to call it in," said Bodea.

Not a single person here has even been on this thread or spoken.

I just skimmed all and it's true.

And the fact the Amber Alert doesn't work as it was supposed to any longer is bullsh*t.

Yet all seems to madden no one. Or they sure don't talk to it or of it. However, maybe some will get behind a murderer of a health care CEO and all of a sudden have voices.

And that all changed over the years under our noses. The Amber Alert I mean.

People do have voices don't they?

SMFH.

I’m not following what you mean about this thread? Do you mean no one‘s talking about it globally? I think it might be because we know where the kids probably are, only we don’t know where that person is at this time. Let’s hope he’s being tracked down. But yeah, his face should be out there so people can keep a lookout for him. That’s for sure.

Sacramento children who vanished after mother found dead still missing 6 months later

It has been six long months of searching for Athena and Mateo Lee after their mother, Angelica Bravo, was found dead in a Sacramento home.

Angelica's parents placed her favorite things by her graveside Thursday while covered in grief.

"Twenty-eight years is not long enough," Angelica's father, Phillip Bravo, said.

Investigators still believe the children are with their father, Cameron Lee, who was last seen crossing the border into Mexico days after Angelica was found dead.

"We can't call him a suspect because there's not a homicide to call him a suspect to as of right now," Sacramento Police spokesperson Officer Anthony Gamble said.

The Sacramento County Coroner's Office currently has Angelica's death listed as "undetermined," even though Gamble said investigators believe the death was suspicious.

The coroner's office could not tell us if it's ordered any additional tests related to Angelica's death or if there is an estimated time for when the cause will be changed from "undetermined," if at all.

"An undetermined death may also require additional investigative efforts from law enforcement or other local agencies, which is the case in this instance," a spokesperson for the county said in an email.

CBS13 showed that email to Gamble.

"I don't know which information they are requesting," Gamble said. "Homicide detectives came out and they worked this case extensively from top to bottom, left to right and around the clock."

Gamble said detectives have already handed over every piece of evidence they could to the coroner.

"The last thing we want to do is point the finger between agencies," he added. "What we do know is Angelica Bravo was found dead in her residence. The father of her children was not there, has not contacted us and then fled to Mexico. That raises concern for us."

The issue is that since the missing children are believed to be with their father, police cannot pursue him unless they can determine a crime had been committed.

"She is going to have a headstone. That is also hinging on the autopsy," Angelica's mother, Dawn Bodea, said.

The family is left without answers in Angelica's death but holds onto hope that little Athena and Mateo will someday return home to them.

"We're very frustrated. We would like a little more transparency," Phillip Bravo said.

Gamble said the department's priority right now with the case is finding Athena and Mateo Lee. It is continuing to work with local, state and federal agencies to bring them back to Sacramento safely.

The family is also offering a $12,000 reward for anyone with information.

Coroner's report leaves mystery unsolved in Angelica Bravo's death

It’s been more than six months since 28-year-old Angelica Bravo was found dead at her ex-boyfriend’s Sacramento home, and her cause of death is still undetermined.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office released Monday a case summary for Bravo, which says after an investigation and autopsy that her cause of death is “undetermined.”

The coroner’s office says the autopsy found no evidence of natural disease that could have contributed to her death. They found scrapes and bruises on her head, face and torso as well as bleeding on her tongue.

The coroner’s office says although there’s no definitive evidence of strangulation, it can’t rule out the possibility she was smothered to death.

Meanwhile, toxicology results found MDMA, MDA and cannabinoids in her system “raising the possibility of a drug overdose.”

The coroner’s office concluded homicidal violence couldn’t be ruled out as a potential cause of death.

'Homicidal violence' not ruled out in death of Angelica Bravo, the mother of 2 missing kids from Sacramento, coroner says

A 28-year-old mother of two found dead at her boyfriend’s home last year may have been the victim of “homicidal violence,” but her cause of death was not determined, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office said on Monday.

"We are as numb as we were the day that we found out my granddaughter was killed," said Gilbert Bravo, Angelica's grandfather.

The Bravo family invited KCRA into their home Monday evening following the release of the autopsy report. Her father, Phillip Bravo, shared a small memorial of her in their dining room surrounded by angel statues.

"She's missed so much... she's always going to be with us," said Phillip Bravo.

The family is promising to do whatever they can to find the children.

"We want you to come home. We're going to find you, my babies. We're going to find you," said Phillip Bravo.

So I guess the kids are stuck with their father now, assuming they are still or ever were with him. Since LE has made it quite clear that aren't going to do anything unless they figure out mom was murdered.

I need to head for bed and I think I'm too tired to process this right now but this bites. They seriously cannot determine her cause of death? Did they have an expert autopsy? Can't go back and look right now and not sure we even knew. They were looking for the kids so now they are not? I'd think if it was from drug overdose something would show like cardiac arrest maybe? I'm certainly no expert. And I'm beyond tired.

The fact the kids are missing and he took them and crossed the border I would think would add to a finding, at least somewhat. And so she beat herself? But I guess they can't prove who did either with that.

I'll have to think about it tomorrow. It just bites is all. Big time.

Warrant issued for man tied to Sacramento mom’s homicide, kids’ disappearance

Authorities have issued a homicide warrant for the man suspected of killing Angelica Bravo nearly a year ago and spiriting away the Sacramento mother’s two youngest children.

Camron Lee, 39, is wanted and still missing, as are the two children Lee took with him, Athena and Mateo Lee, believed taken to Southern California or Mexico.

“At this time, our detectives have secured a homicide arrest warrant for 39-year-old Camron Lee in connection to the murder of Angelica Bravo,” Sacramento Police Department officials said in a statement Wednesday posted to the Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers website. “Our department continues to work to locate Angelica’s children, Athena, and Mateo Lee, and prioritize their safety and well-being.”

Lee had been listed as a “person of interest” in Bravo’s death.

Missing Sacramento children's father wanted for homicide after mother found dead

Sacramento detectives say they have secured a homicide arrest warrant for Camron Lee in connection with the death of Angelica Bravo, the mother of two children who vanished after she was found dead in a north Sacramento home.

The Sacramento Police Department announced on Wednesday it secured the homicide arrest warrant for Lee, nine months after Bravo, 28, was found dead in a home at Didcot Circle on July 8, 2024.

Up until this point, Camron was never called a suspect but was wanted for questioning in Bravo's death. Now, investigators have enough reason to believe Bravo's death was a homicide and issued an arrest warrant for Camron.

"Our department continues to work to locate Angelica's children, Athena and Mateo Lee and prioritize their safety and well-being," the police department said in a statement.

"We just want to know that they're safe and we want them to come home," said Dawn Bodea, Bravo's mother. "I just feel it in my heart. I know they are out there and I know they are going to come home. Just really eager and can't wait to see them, love them. Miss them so much."

Investigators told CBS13 that they do not believe the children of the wanted murder suspect are in imminent danger, but they could not give a reason why as it is still an active investigation.

Hopefully this will give LE more resources to locate him and we'll soon have a celebration that the kids are found safe!

So LE does not think they are in imminent danger... That's interesting. The children I mean. That's a pretty brave statement to make unless they know something. Glad they have a warrant for his arrest.
