OR MICHAEL BRYSON: Missing from Hobo Camp, Lane Co, OR - 5 Aug 2020 - Age 27

DORENA, Ore. -- Search efforts have grown to find 27-year-old Michael Bryson who went missing early Wednesday morning.

Bryson was camping at the Hobo Camp Campground with friends last week when he wandered away from the site Wednesday morning and that was the last time he was seen.

The search is not isolated to just the campground and surrounding areas. Friends have deployed into cities all over western Oregon looking for any leads that could point them to where he might be.

His family said the longest they've ever gone without hearing from him is two days.

"It's very rare that five days in he would not have reached out to mom, dad, or sister," his uncle said.

The effort to find Bryson has grown beyond just those who knew him.

A facebook group with more than 2,000 members is dedicated to finding the young man.

The man's dad said Bryson doesn't know a stranger. He said his son was kind and friendly to everyone he met. He said he hopes that's the energy that brings him home.

A $10,000 reward is available for any information leading to his discovery, all which was donated to fuel efforts to find him.

Attached is a pic of Michael earlier on in the trip. This shows what he was wearing when he walked away from the camp.

Please note that I am acquainted with his family and this case is personal to me. It's okay to ask questions, but please know that Michael is known by all to be super sweet and his parents are top notch. Thanks!

The main reason I wanted to start a thread about Michael is that there are now drones covering the area. We can look them over and see if there's anything we might see that could be Michael. We've been told it's easier to see on a TV screen, if you have the ability to watch that way. Also, there is a discussion about these videos on Michael's missing FB page:

What's up with the car on the road?

I'll ask this cautiously ... do his friends know why he walked away, perhaps his mental state at the time? I don't know if he was drinking however maybe he is hurt like @noZme suggested and he can't answer loud enough for searchers to hear him.
Don't worry, that's been the question of the hour.

It appears he was on a camping trip with a group of other young people and he was up at 4:00 a.m. for some reason. The reason I know he was up at 4:00 a.m. is because that's when the kids said he left the camp. Was his judgment impaired? Probably. Was it mental illness? I don't think so. I haven't heard anybody that said he had a mental illness issue of any kind.

I have a few questions. So he was camping with friends...How many days had they been out there before he went missing? Did they encounter or hang out with any another groups of campers since being there? Did he share a tent with someone?
Were others in his group already awake at 4 am to notice him walk away or were they briefly awoken as he was leaving? Did he have a vehicle or did he ride with someone there? Ok.. that's all for now ;)

So this might be a dumb question, I don't know how kids these days camp. Is that like a geometric dome tent frame around them in this picture? Was the tent not put up yet or is it something else since things are hanging on it like the bag tied to it?

And then is that a school bus in the picture? Or is it maybe an old one someone uses as a camper?
I guess I am wondering as if he had no shelter during the night, could he have got cold or tired of bugs and slept in someone else's camper and perhaps they left and he went with?

Did people see him go into the woods at 4 a.m.? It sounds like it or how do they know that and the time? Yet I also read that no one knows what direction he went into the woods so I don't see how those two things go together?

Finally, any idea of how big of a group was camping here? And was it an event or for fun and did all know each other? I guess my thought again with that is if it was for instance a party kind of thing where people may come and go and some stay and camp overnight and some do not, that he again could have left with someone? Of course I guess if that was the case, he would have been heard from by now.

I mean no disrespect, he is the age that it would not be unusual to camp and party with friends, that's not a surprise at all, I sure did it. I am just looking for more info if there is any. And I guess like in every case, looking for reason for hope.

I hope the searchers stay safe in the woods and pray he is found safe.

Thank you all for your questions and interest! It's difficult to decipher all the comments on FB to get a good timeline on this case. There is a video by Rick Dancer, a local journalist, that I have yet to watch, but I hear there's good info on it so I'll watch and report later.

Here is one quote from someone who was there: " There was no altercation they were talking to him and his face went blank after that he said no one wanted him here. <name redacted> and <name redacted> said of course not we love you. Then he walked off the bus to get some air."

I've seen this report repeatedly and so at this time, I have no reason to believe this isn't what happened. It sounds like he may have needed sleep and had been partying, which led to his lapse in judgement.

I'm not sure how long the group had been there, but I've read that different people had been in and out. He does have a car, but I've read he didn't take it up there and let his cell phone in his car, which was at his home or a friend's house. I've read that authorities have the phone and I've read that his family has the phone. Either way, it doesn't appear the phone ever went with him to the camp spot.

What's up with the car on the road?
There are a lot of vehicles in the area right now because of all the searchers up there.

I have not gotten through it all yet but I went down the rabbit hole of reading the FB page. I haven't watched the video yet. The page and comments have answered many of the questions I had. Not that it matters necessarily but there is a friend on there who said the phone was found in his car (meaning the friend's car). He rode up there with someone and I believe it was the same friend. I have read so much I forget. I also saw though where some said the phone was in the missing buy's car but this guy corrected them. I also read as you said that LE has the phone and others who say the family does.

Is LE involved in the searches or organization? I have read a ton and it does not sound like it or at least it sounds as if they no longer are.

I have spent the better part of the day this far reading that page, some of it brings more questions than answers but that is usually the case isn't it... To stay respectful, I will just say I did not realize this was such a large group of people. I guess with the Covid thought in my head I thought it was just a small group of friends on a camping trip. I only mention it because I think it ups the chances of having left with someone or asking someone for a ride and others being unaware of that and it also ups the chances of someone having an encounter with him/foul play.

I pray he is found. A lot of people are concerned for him, that is very clear on the page.

I believe there was over 50 people at the party, but don't quote me on that one. I do believe there was quite a crowd and no, don't think they were practicing what the governor has ordered as far as Covid 19 restrictions.

That's what I read, around 60 people. I don't care if they were practicing Covid so much as I meant I pictured a smaller gathering and just a few close friends with regard to the thoughts of what may have happened, until I read there. It sounds like, or so someone said, there were other groups at other nearby campgrounds that some of this group says were sketchy. NOT the party group but other people in that neck of the woods or close by... That could be worrisome if he went off and encountered someone.

Not like I can solve anything but I guess I am doing the usual of trying to connect the dots. There seem to be a number of possible sightings in Eugene and people saying to check the homeless areas but none of that seems confirmed in any way so I don't give it much credit, although he would be alive then which would be the best outcome.

Without jumping to conclusions or making presumptions... I can't help but to speculate if hallucinogenics played a role at this party. IMO it could explain the sudden change of mood and him being so easily persuaded by his negative thoughts. I only mention this because it gives me hope. I would think that, after a night like that, one would need to sleep it off a while. This makes me hopeful that he is just sleeping under a tree somewhere :(... Maybe wandered a little too far off the path.. I really hope it's something so silly...
