Six women have been found dead in less than three months in secluded, wooded areas in the Portland, Oregon, region, but law enforcement authorities said they have not found any evidence that the cases are linked.

The women's bodies were found within 100 miles of each other, the Portland Police Bureau said in a news release over the weekend. Police have not determined whether they were all homicide victims, but they were all under age 40.

Although news of the deaths was widely circulated on social media, the Portland Police Bureau said there was no reason to believe the deaths were connected. (more at link)

Investigators link suspicious deaths of 4 women in NW Oregon, person of interest found
Investigators say they have a person of interest in the deaths of four women found killed in Northwest Oregon since February, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office said Monday, July 17, 2023.

At this point, no one has been formally charged with the deaths of Kristin Smith, Charity Perry, Bridget Webster, and Ashley Real.

According to the DA’s office, investigators have interviewed several people in connection with the women’s cases, and they “have identified at least one person of interest that is linked to all four of the decedents.” They said they don’t believe there’s any danger to the community.

Those familiar with the investigation say the person of interest, 38-year-old Jesse Lee Calhoun, is currently booked in the Snake River Correctional Institution.

Smith was first reported missing in December of last year and was found deceased on February 19.

Perry was found dead in April near Ainsworth State Park. Investigators said she was from Longview, Wash but was known to frequent downtown Portland before her death.

Webster's body was found later in April near Mill Creek in Polk County. She was also known to frequent the Portland metro area, including Oregon City and Milwaukie.

Real, 22, was last seen at a fast-food restaurant on Southeast Division on March 27. She was found dead in the Eagle Creek area in May.

Detectives want anyone who may have helpful information on any of these women to get ahold of the agency in charge of the respective agency investigating the case.

Who is Jesse Lee Calhoun? Person of interest in 4 Oregon deaths

Multiple sources at different agencies have confirmed that Jesse Lee Calhoun, 38, is the person of interest in the deaths of four women whose bodies were discovered in winter and spring. The announcement that the fourth deaths may be connected came from the Multnomah County District Attorney’s office Monday morning.

It is unknown how Calhoun is connected to the four deaths, but he does have an extensive criminal history.

According to the Department of Corrections, in 2019 Calhoun was charged with three counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle, one count of assaulting a public safety officer and one count of first-degree burglary.

Court documents from the incident show said that when SWAT arrived at Calhoun’s house to arrest him on outstanding warrants, in defiance he choked a K9 and repeatedly kick an officer.

His original projected release date was in June 2022.

However, in 2021, then-governor Kate Brown signed a commutation order providing clemency to certain prisoners who met the criteria. Calhoun was one of those prisoners and was released on Jul 22, 2021.

According to the Department of Corrections, he also served time from 2009 through 2011 in Baker County for fourth-degree assault.

On July 3, Governor Kotek’s office said they received a request to revoke Calhoun’s commutation status, which was signed the same day.

Calhoun is currently back in custody to complete his sentence with a projected release date of June 9, 2024. He has not been charged in connection to the deaths of the four women.

This guy can't be responsible for more than one killing. They said over and over again that there was no serial killer.

yeah they said not connected, not a serial killer, etc. just a short time ago and despite the area an crime rate, sure sounded like too many to me to not have some of the many connected and here we go.

Community not in danger, he had links to all of them. Well okay. But you lied before. Just recently. And even if so, he killed many, oh excuse me might not be him, but they are now connected. just what, a short time after claiming otherwise or unlikely.

what a black eye. this wasn't about keeping an investigation quiet, this was about the black eye that this man was released and blood is on the hands of those that granted such. another case where even though he is likely the killer officials who care less and let someone out resulted in HOW MANY PEOPLE DEAD that wouldn't be if he was incarcerated.

I haven't read ahead here but I did see an article on break at work and know he was one RELEASED and fit for it supposedly and then tried to be put back in as he was not doing as he screwed up and was to be put back in.

They are covering and they were covering this horrible decision!

I am NOT going to quit saying it. These victims' blood and deaths are also on the hand of those in the system who DID THIS. They should be able to also be criminally charged and MAYBE THAT WOULD STOP THEIR RELEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not convinced either. The 2 close maybe. But it is a widespread area. IMO too much so. Saying all under 40. That's too broad and just not a connection I can see.
Well that's what they said and here we are a short time later right? This is outrageous. I'm going to keep saying it. They keep letting these offenders out and off on their sentences. Keeping quiet isn't going to stop it. Of course my yelling here isn't going to stop it either and people have gotten NUMB to it I think. Or don't even realize. Just apathy in this nation and world as nothing can be done about anything and people don't do anything about it.

There is power in the internet in coming together about ONE issue and making a lot of noise. No one has to agree politically or anything else just about ONE subject. I hope someone who has some type of platform and channel DOES SO.

I don't have it in me to highlight portions of this but I think the ones that matter are OBVIOUS. EXTENSIVE criminal history. RELEASED. CLEMENCY. GOV SIGNED BECAUSE HE MET CRITERIA. Despite an extensive criminal history?????? Choked a K9. Let's put it as it is he choked a CANINE. Repeatedly kicked an officer. Also assault in other years. Current governor signed something on July 3rd of this year. Yeah I bet she did because they KNEW.

A 2018 arrest not mentioned above.

Of course it isn't mentioned. They say EXTENSIVE criminal history but then detail just part. Damage control attempt. Not sure why the news wouldn't have gotten and shared ALL his history.

Forgive me, I'm mad and I'm not going to shut up about it. Get me started on worse ones even that did not even hardly hit the news.

This nation and this world is a mess and no, it isn't just one generation's opinion to the next. And it isn't going to stop. Oh yes, we all have our daily bubbles and we feel safe areas and people and think it will never affect us but it is spreading so fast. Bunch of idiots in charge everywhere. and this is nothing new. Not a damned bit of it.

Exactly and I'm not going to shut up about it. You are the other one most likely not to. Some don't even know how much this sh*t is going on. Many don't. Has been for a LONG time already.

Yeah. They made it a point. And really, The similarities to me were too broad. But THEY would know more. Or SHOULD. Did they say that not to create panic?. To not tip off the POS they were onto him as far as seeing the killings related?. IDK.

It has become an epidemic! The offenders aren't going to say...No. No. I think I need to serve my full sentence. But thank you anyway. No! They are going to get out as soon as they can to offend again!!! And most likely at an escalated level. The dam parole boards are partners in creating more victims!
