Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

The victims are between the ages of 14 and 18. Aurora Central High School, which is located at 11700 E. 11th Ave., has the perimeter of the school secured. All the victims are students at the high school.

One child is in emergency surgery, APD Chief Vanessa Wilson said. First responders applied a tourniquet to the child after being shot.

An 18-year-old victim with minor injuries got to the hospital on their own after the initial incident. Three of the victims are currently being treated at Children’s Hospital and two are at UCHealth.

When I was working in the O.R. at the hospital there was an anesthesiologist that used to work in L.A.. He said the only person who doesn't get shot in a drive by shooting is the intended victim.

Hoping they are found quickly and safely.

Took off walking so at least no sign of abduction and it would be tough for someone to snatch four children that age without a problem. Unless it is something custodial of course.

Vaguely. I remember the name. But my mom was sick then. So I wasn't keeping up on the news regularly. Geez 2-29. That's horrific what they did. I am glad they didn't get a slap on the wrist. I do remember their pictures and thinking of father that he borrowed a wig from Phil Spector.
