ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

Yeahhh. Uhhhh...I don't understand why people would have so much. I didn't know it's illegal to throw that on someone. They look proud. And dumb.
The glitter was not the issue if they had taken it out of the container. The container is what they got in trouble for...and the breaking in.

Stresses you out Leticia?. Well that falls under...STFU! So self centered! Unbelievable!
This was a particularly good show imo. Yes, she seems to think a defendant can just say they are not wanting to appear. I think she actually got away with that once or twice hasn't she over the long haul? Uhm, does she know what she did to a poor little boy? Very self centered. I am really tiring of these cases not proceeding for the victims' families--this one, Daybell... Defendants in each that seem to feel they are special and deserve special treatment...

WHAT?!!! Unbelievable!!!!
This is quite fishy. This was a bench trial, not a jury trial. Most defendants don't choose that. So the very judge that finds him guilty (but not on all counts--changes his mind. Hmm. There are many ways to get a light sentence or none if there is no way to actually avoid charges or a trial... Is this what happened here... Why does the judge as they say feel sorrier for the defendant than the victim instead of sentencing as appropriate for the charge HE found him guilty of... Why WOULD you change your mind? Didn't the judge know the facts when he decided the guilt and know what the sentence was to or should be? It seems to me he had to have known that... So why the reversal of his own well thought out one would think, initial verdict, based on the evidence... Now he says such or such wasn't proven...

FISHY, FISHY, FISHY. Where was this? Oh here in the midwest. Hmph. Only six states let juries do sentencing and I don't think IL is one. Maybe all should be.

Final thought--jurors are told they can't decide guilt or not guilty based on whether they think a defendant deserves the sentence that comes with, isn't that the case? Well then how can a judge change his mind about his own verdict because he doesn't want the rapist sentenced that long?

No, not all smartphones are ok. Reach out to your carrier to find out what network you utilize.
Life. I'll put it on my to do list sigh but it can't go to the top, it's too long with priorities. Shouldn't they have to reach out to me? I didn't pick my "G" thing. I thought it was the phone, not the carrier. Confused.

It's both the phone & carrier. So, it's worth sending an email to the customer service department to verify coverage for your phone on their carrier.
