ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

Now I'm convinced he was safer locked up. These people are pizzed!

From the article: “I believe he’s a murderer,” said Santana Commings, the daughter of one of Courtney’s patients. “Why can’t he just serve his time?”

He should have been charged as a serial killer and never have seen the light of day.

I agree this should have also been charged of some degree of murder. And still can be imo as there's no statute. That First Step Act had BETTER only exist in stupid Colorado.

I agree with the family member also that these ARE violent acts. They['re intentional acts, they are vile and they are violent imo.

Tampering with medicine is all he was charged with? That's total b.s. Does he even have a home to go home to? I'd hope all he ever had is gone by lawsuits and attorney fees etc. since money was more important to him that people's lives.

Disgusting and whoever passed that law and/or decided he was eligible for it and only charged this should be off the bench, fired, whatever. Colorado citizens should be OUTRAGE at leaders who did this or whoever.

What's he going to do for money now and who is he going to hurt. I'm going to assume his pharmacist license is long gone and I'd hope a condition is that he can't even work as a clerk in a place that has a pharmacy. But who knows what rules if any that gave him, someone's pretty stupid here imo.

4200 was it whose medicine he messed with? How many died? They'd probably claim it can't be proven it was diluted medicine that killed the people rather than their illness BUT their illness was NOT being treated, intentionally.

I'd take heart with what the lawyer in the article said, however, he is a CIVIL lawyer and not a criminal one imo.

I had seen headlines a few weeks(?) back that there was another child in hot car death. I never looked into it and did not see such on computer or YT I am pretty sure. When on break at work, in normal times I don't use my phone for basically anything internet related so it isn't like something I do or have set to a home page or anything and so if I go to a browser, standard headlines come up and pretty sure that's where I saw it. Never looked into, did not want to, etc. Did not know if accident or otherwise but the bit in the beginning sounded like accident in the headlines I saw.

Well when I got home tonight, I had a show on YT about Madeline Soto (man is that an awful case, with a ton of interest too of course re the facts and questions) and had little time but hit the continue button while getting shoes off, filling the boys' bowl, etc. Did not sit down to watch and it ran it's course and then YT and I never had it SET to ever go right into some other show but it did, into the case of the hot car death...

Well I heard the start and was still busy, and heard parts and thought I don't WANT to know another case but finally sat down and had heard enough I backed it up and started over and needed to know. And things like this are how I get suckered into child cases OR they are missing at first and I am hoping they just went wandering off, nothing else and will be found safe and voila, then I am hearing all these horrid details but I've already invested in them. AND a part of me I guess knows all can't ignore such cases either. They hurt so much anyone but people HAVE to care and that sometimes plays in. I want to bury my head in the sand but such also needs attention.

Anyhow, this is Law and Crime, and not always the biggest fan but not saying they never do really good shows as well and when they are going off facts, they can be quite good.

And I had heard enough I had to keep watching. I'm not done yet but am fairly far in. I don't have the time to explain it to anyone who does not know the recent developments in the case (I did not even know the initial story) but this father is now charged with first degree murder. I think it is a must watch to hear how his habit was to leave kids in the car and a lot more. She also (shame on her) stuck up for him at the intiial appearance which I am guessing was when he was charged with second, talking of an accident and yet she had texts to him about leaving the kids in the car and to stop doing it and so on. He was playing video games. How is that for an excuse? He lied and said he checked on her in the car and that was found to be untrue by security cams. He claimed it was less time than it was, same. MOM is a doctor, came home and immediately knew something was wrong. Started CPR/mouth to mouth, etc. You can hear her on the 911 tape.

If there ever was a total loser, this man is it. I'd call him evil but youl'd have to watch it to know that yeah he just did not care so long as he could do what he wanted imo... I don't know if he worked but I seriously doubt it. On top of it the other kids and even an older daughter he had with someone else remembers being left in the car. A habit he did a LOT.

There is sooo much more. He knew the car and that the air conditioning and car automatically turns off after 30 minutes. He KNEW. I'd say it was the wife's texts when on the way to the hospital with (who was already dead surely) daughter texted him saying how many times she had told him to QUIT leaving the kids in the car. And I'm sure from there they found a long history of such things.
My thought was immediately this woman, who is a doctor, will divorce him and protect herself but later in the video I find she stuck up for him at least in the initial charge and appearance.

And I'm not through it all yet.

I highly recommend a watch. It's awful but in the way all child cases are and adults that just don't even try to do their job as a parent.

I am pretty far in but not finished. They started out I think with accident, went to second degree murder, found out more, sent it to a grand jury and the GJ sent it back recommending first degree from all they heard. And so the charge has been recently upgraded to the highest.

He lied and lied and had been told and told.

Let me know if you watch it and thoughts. So sickening. Heard hints but not finished yet of some alcohol problem too, not sure if it played in but certainly no excuse as the guest or talking head says.

The other thing is I'm certainly no lawyer and none of us here are to my knowledge, but first degree to me usually goes along with intentional. I don't get the feeling so far he INTENDED her to die, he CERTAINLY should have KNOWN BETTER and not been a self indulgent noncaring arse but I can only figure it is first because of all the things he knew. He'd been told, warned, he knew the car would shut off, and so on, said he checked on her and he had NOT.

I guess just on those facts the argument could be made for First Degree. How could he not know or intend even...? Thoughts?

Give it a watch.

It's a horrible story, heartbreaking and something I don't need, but it isn't like details like about JJ and Tylee's remains kind of stuff is in it. It's just the actions, lies, nonactoins, doing this kind of thing over and over and should know better kind of thing that is just maddening. A TWO YEAR OLD.

I think maybe too it should have its own thread but not worried about that at the moment.

I've shared a lot but it really takes listening to to get it all.

Let me know. I'd like thoughts. And maybe some already know of all this, not sure.

I sure did not have time to start something new, especially tonight but it just kind of came on and there I was...

Suspected serial killer charged in 1977 cold case murders of 3 women in Southern California

A suspected serial killer accused of strangling three women to death in 1977 in Southern California has been arrested, authorities announced Thursday.

Warren Luther Alexander, 73, of Mississippi, was charged with three counts of murder in connection with the Ventura County killings.

He was in custody in North Carolina where he's facing a separate murder charge and was extradited to California. He's currently being held in the Ventura County Jail without bail.

"Last year in 2023, a breakthrough emerged," said Nasarenko. "Once again detectives with the cold case unit on behalf of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department uploaded crucial DNA evidence into that DNA data base, and in this case, a match occurred."

I wonder how many others he killed?

Parents refused to help their 12-year-old daughter treat her diabetes until she died, police say

A mother and father in Indiana are accused of ignoring their 12-year-old daughter’s diabetes until she died, according to authorities.

Alice Bredhold was found dead in her home in Indiana on the Fourth of July.

Authorities said Alice’s parents, Ashley and Brent Bredhold were not taking proper care of the child’s diabetes.

Her mother told police that Alice had Type 1 diabetes. She said that her diabetes management consisted of her daughter taking a long-acting insulin shot before bed every night and then taking short-acting insulin doses after every meal based on how many carbs she would consume.

Throughout the school year, Alice allegedly came to school with a high blood sugar level 34 times. At one point, her blood sugar was over 500 for an entire week.

Blood sugar is supposed to be between 80 and 120, according to WHO.

On the day of Alice’s death, Ashley allegedly said she sent her son to wake Alice up when he found her unconscious on the floor.

Ashley allegedly told investigators that she did not check on her daughter until two hours later.

After having an “extremely high” blood-sugar level, she gave her medicine but waited two more hours before calling 911.

She said Alice’s body was cold to the touch and she didn’t appear to be breathing.

She told police, “I feel like a f– king idiot. I should’ve taken her to the hospital when I found her.”

A coroner ruled that Alice died of diabetic ketosis. The coroner said Alice’s liver was more than twice the size of an adult woman’s.

Ashley and Brent were booked into jail on Wednesday after the month-long investigation and each was charged with a count of neglect of a dependent records.

Officers said two other children were removed from the home, which had trash and bugs all over it.

They’re each being held on a $100,000 bond.

I've seen another article that said her beeper kept alerting that her blood sugar was high, so it's not like they didn't know her levels. Could they just not afford her RX? Or were they just that unconcerned?

There is so much wrong in this story. They didn't do just one thing wrong but many.

Inexcusable.

This should be abuse in my opinion, not just neglect and it may even fit a murder charge...

With the condition of the home, my guess would be unconcerned. The school was sure always aware of high blood sugar levels.

And the mother did allegedly give her a shot when "unconscious" but took her more than an hour to even CHECK on her, that sure seems like unconcerned to me even at that point.

I guess she could have been running for medicine so she didn't appear neglectful... It's anyone's guess when the child actually died.

HORRIBLE case.

So he has actually killed four at a minimum, one in 2022 in North Carolina, which is how they got his DNA, and the three in California in 1977. I think he deserves a thread, as i am sure there will be more.
