ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

First heard it was only a child. Now seems to be a woman and a child and if this happened early afternoon they sure waited to put it across TV and cell phones, a few hours for sure on the TV and I could hardly catch the info and it was some time later before it came across my phone. Big gap incident to TV probably a few hours, maybe an hour after TV before it came over the cell phone...? I guess that is quick considering what LE has to do to get it out but it seems like a very long time with a missing child...

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Capitol descended into chaos and violence Wednesday as hundreds of pro-Trump rioters swarmed the building, leaving four people dead and forcing the Senate to evacuate and Vice President Mike Pence to be ushered to safety.

The frenzied scene after rioters broke through barricades forced Congress to evacuate parts of the building and abruptly pause a ceremonial event affirming that President-elect Joe Biden won the November election. In one dramatic moment, police officers drew guns as rioters tried to break into the House chamber.

Pence, who was presiding over the joint session of Congress, could be seen rushing out of the Senate chamber amid the sounds of throngs of President Donald Trump's supporters who surrounded the Capitol. Pence and Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, the Senate president pro tem, were taken to a secure location, a senator told NBC News.

A woman was fatally shot by U.S. Capitol Police and three other people died in "medical emergencies," Washington Police Chief Robert Contee said <snip>
Mods: delete this if you wish, but I find it terrifying...there is NO excuse for this kind of violence in our nation's Capitol. Total insanity.😱

Well, I guess since the shooter and detective were friends, the statement that the shooter stole the gun from the friend is one I find debatable. Could be but not like it shows a theft report or anything... Interesting too that he texts and leaves voicemails for his friend after doing what he did.

Oh and it was a prohibited large-capacity gun magazine, the shooter faces 22 charges and he shot 24 times, she died and her boyfriend was also injured. I would like to know if he had a right to have a firearm of any kind... The shooter also was 36, one would think he would know better; the victim was 21.
