ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

Everywhere here
Here it is just the normal either fabric ones someone made or the white ones you get at any store or they provide at work, etc... Of course, I don't think most here take it as what is going to have to be a permanent fashion accessory but just a temporary necessity. But then I don't get out much...

people that i know that have to wear them all day, every day have quite the collection of them.

I don't think we have a case thread on this one. They never called it homicide at first until autopsy although it seemed likely. They now have said she was strangled. While there is no arrest yet, she allegedly had told her friends she was divorcing her husband and he had strangled her before...

Yeah. That's not obvious. I'm guessing she was nude then because he didn't want to leave trace evidence.

Could be or he killed her while nude or in the shower or some such. I think the other times she told her friends about happened in the bathroom. She would black out and wake up having been choked on the bathroom floor. Otherwise, many think it was to shame her leaving her nude to be seen.

You be got to be kidding. This also qualifies as stupid criminals.
I go both ways on it, he was already in trouble if caught for taking the car but he probably knew full well that Amber Alerts and other things would be fast on his tail and a kidnapping charge is pretty major. Not the brightest to be stealing cars either but apparently he may look at taking things as not as wrong as taking or harming children.

He also risked returning the child and LE already being there or having been called depending on if she had come out to find her car and child gone... At that point he probably had to get out of there so took the car again and ditched it (instead of parting it out or other)...

Yah, I don't know but thank goodness the child is safe. Interesting.

2-15 yrs maximum for killing his son. WT🤬 !!!!
Oh I've seen sentences like that. What a joke. Almost like the judge is like the victim can't be brought back but why ruin the perp's entire life...?

And what is this I paste below from the article? BBM. The judge says "negligence" yet the same article said he held the boys arms! That is NOT negligence.

"Sam had value, and the sanction will not restore Sam, but it will recognize that all humans have value, and because of the neglect you committed, a valuable human has lost his life," Ottawa County Circuit Court Judge Jon Hulsing said in a statement obtained by the Associated Press.
