ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

While they may be just words in Germany, they have a definite connotation here to most of us imo and particularly when you add a 3 to reich.

If the license plates were revoked the owners could sue and they'd win. It's a free speech issue. On the other hand a private company could revoke them. I wonder now if maybe the DMV in Alaska might have the right to revoke them. It becomes a thorny problem though. Who will decide what and what is not acceptable?

The DMV can refuse license plates, but after approved can they revoke them?

I get your point. And certainly messing with someone's right to free speech is not something I am in favor of. I guess I was thinking more of her being with Human Rights Commission. They are just words, she is correct on that but we are also on a slippery slope already with free speech with things like hate speech, threats, racists terms, etc. Hmm. Definitely is some food for thought.

Oh, I agree she deserves to lose her job, I was thinking more about the legality.

Even then I guess depending on the overall context of what she said and the full conversation, and whether it is a personal page or she presents herself in that position, I could change my opinion somewhat. On the face of it though, it does not go along with the idea of human rights.

WICKED!! Adopted children. Go figure right? Unheard of--NOT. I can't quite figure out why the husband took a child to the hospital when according to allegations by the children, he was just as bad and they took turns. EVIL. WICKED. I don't know how big this will be but this case needs to be heard of by all if all it says is true. This new adoption game needs to stop (not new but just coming to light for many like in the West case or the two women over the California cliff case with five children) Imho. Do we have another adoption for profit??

I recall them going missing. What was the gain here, I am sure there was something. Cash from the wallet? Who knows. I recall it because it was not a place nor area they were new to but there you go, despite his renting and going there for years...

Well, there is an article about Casey Anthony starting her PI firm to help other wrongfully accused women. I refuse to click into the article and will NOT post it so just sayin'. Notoriety is still fame and ttention. Not posting it, not clicking it and not sharing it.

I don't do prank phone calls but maybe I should call on a real one and ask about her rates and experience and what she would do for a person... Gag. Barf.

Okay, I wonder the motive then. It says it does not appear to be bias related. Yet they killed an infant, a toddler, a family. What then was their motive?? And while I agree in not releasing the names of minors, if these teens were "old" enough to commit such crimes, then they are old enough to have their names blasted all over the news. However, charges are not the same as a conviction nor is anything proven yet, I do realize.

Adoption and fostering for profit is nothing new at all. I remember a case here when I was very young and have seen cases like it ever since. The internet has just made it come to light for many.

I think fostering has long been known but the adoption thing it is amazing how many are out there that still think once adopted there is no money or financial incentive. And some has changed since we were very young. Not to get into politics, but it started with I believe the Clinton administration when they gave incentives to states, etc. to get more foster children permanently adopted. The reason my post is not political in saying that is both parties have been in office since then and it has not changed.

The two boys, the "West" case, it is amazing how many think there is no financial incentive with adoption. It has all been but shown all over Youtube by other posters etc. the money in California for each child adopted. And still, people think of it as back in the day I guess when one had to go through hoops to probably adopt a white baby and years of waiting. Not getting into race there or anything either, I just mean, that is still many people's idea of adoption, that you need to show resources, stability, etc. to be approved and then often wait for years. I think they are thinking of a newborn baby with someone who cannot have children smh back in the day.

If true, a realtor in the West case pretty much confirmed that the Wests were able to buy the Cali City house just based on income from adopted and fostered children and no other verifiable income. What??! Man many of the rest of us are lucky to be able to be approved for a mortgage with a proven job and modest income.
