ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

I think fostering has long been known but the adoption thing it is amazing how many are out there that still think once adopted there is no money or financial incentive. And some has changed since we were very young. Not to get into politics, but it started with I believe the Clinton administration when they gave incentives to states, etc. to get more foster children permanently adopted. The reason my post is not political in saying that is both parties have been in office since then and it has not changed.

The two boys, the "West" case, it is amazing how many think there is no financial incentive with adoption. It has all been but shown all over Youtube by other posters etc. the money in California for each child adopted. And still, people think of it as back in the day I guess when one had to go through hoops to probably adopt a white baby and years of waiting. Not getting into race there or anything either, I just mean, that is still many people's idea of adoption, that you need to show resources, stability, etc. to be approved and then often wait for years. I think they are thinking of a newborn baby with someone who cannot have children smh back in the day.

If true, a realtor in the West case pretty much confirmed that the Wests were able to buy the Cali City house just based on income from adopted and fostered children and no other verifiable income. What??! Man many of the rest of us are lucky to be able to be approved for a mortgage with a proven job and modest income.
in my state there is definitely a financial incentive to both foster and adopt but all of the crap one has to deal with to adopt from a foster situation they pretty much would have to have financial help to make it worth it. I worked with somebody that did that and what she had to go through to even be able to adopt her daughter from fostering her was eye opening!

Interesting. Well I guess that means at least they have criteria in your state that has to be met to adopt?

Hmm. I have never had tuna at Subway so cannot comment based on having ordered any. That is a pretty tall claim though to say "no trace at all". I mean something must make it taste like tuna or smell like tuna? I mean even if juice or oil that would be a trace? I also wonder if it was tested from only ONE Subway that perhaps is pulling something, if there is any truth to this at all... Interesting that it states the attorneys are trying to make a name for themselves against food companies, etc...

I don't like crap garbage being pedaled as good or quality food but I also don't like frivolous lawsuits where often they get some nuisance money just to go away because it is cheaper than having lawyers defend for the company and getting it dismissed.

Finally, even with a lab test, was the product delivered in a chain of evidence untouched from the restaurant and handled nowhere in between or delivered by just some person?

It might be interesting to see how this proceeds and/or progresses.

2 14 year olds!!!
Are you kidding me? Sometimes I have this ridiculous notion that these "kids" are looking for free room and board. Called prison. I know better though.

What in the heck? A ton of it lately and so young. I truly know and hope this does not become a thing in any neck of the woods I reside in. Murder in general is not a big one or common, much less by youth. Just I guess wanted to rob someone what to have a few bucks for the night or an hour or two and they kill to do it? It sounds like they did not even get any money just a cell phone which they ditched. Did they really need to stab and kill her? I somehow doubt she would have resisted too much. They are 14 and she has an 11 year old herself. How do you even find TWO that would be part of such a thing?? Seriously there are two of them, what was the need to injure or kill her at all?

It is a sad world. I know more than a few women who deliver for food delivery services as a side gig and I do worry about them and yet again, we don't have much in the way of murder.

Working to help support her family while they just run around stealing from others? I am usually a bit softer and torn when it is youth but it is hard in cases like this. What happened to just basics of right and wrong? Scum. Evil dumb sh*ts. Smh. Prayers for her family.
