ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

While on probation for another child's death!
I know right?! There is a lot in this one to get enraged over! Didn't her attorney say something like if she did not have the first thing on her record, this incident would be understood and not looked at this way when the facts are heard???!!! Or something like that? I am paraphrasing of course. I could read it again but it enraged me the first time...

Oh and the attorney talks like a previous thing on her record and she is NOT even done serving for that child if she was still on probation!! Thankfully this one survived, hopefully with no permanent damage, hard to say if they can know that until later in the child's life...

Well he did not murder anyone. I wonder what the charge will be, something to do I suppose with tampering or desecration of a corpse. I can already see the defense saying the bodies were (likely) donated for research and he was researching to see what happens to them when leaving them in a desert environment or some such.

Well, he did help research into identifying discarded corpses.

They were donated but he didn't properly dispose of them when his company went out of business. Which I find extremely disturbing. These were people. Donated for research alot of times by their request. No one deserves to be garbage.

A Youtube PRANK involving butcher knives? Really? Well one of the pranksters is now dead and if this is as it appears, no charges should be brought imo. Assuming all is as it sounds and the person who killed him really felt in imminent fear of death. How does a 20 year old and his friends think this is a PRANK?

I'm guessing there's footage of what happened. If it was a Youtube prank. It sounds to me like there is little to charge anyone involved with this. They were doing something stupid and the guy who shot him probably wouldn't be charged with anything if this was a real situation. You'd think they would have learned after the fake bank robbery.

Well, he certainly got his fifteen minutes of fame.

Hmph. Well as far as defenses go, it wouldn't be the craziest thing I ever saw attempted for a defense... I mean clearly this is one that will not be facing murder charges or that kind of related sentence assuming they were ALL donated, etc.

It is disturbing. I am sure if the guy had said he had nowhere to put them or no money to do whatever it is that should have been done with them, people would have helped or donated to not have remains treated like that. Or get in contact with the families (assuming families know where the bodies went after donation). It is just WRONG. And clearly he knew that.

All I know is if I was faced with a butcher knife or machete for instance, I certainly if I had a gun would not wait until someone lunged at me with something that size or at my loved ones. A pocket knife would be harder, I don't know what decision I would make. AND this sounded like a group with butcher knives. STUPID.

I don't see much to charge with either although the surviving ones of the prank should possibly be charged. If you threatened someone with a knife, that alone should be enough. One would think.

Wow it sounds like he had everything going for him, 2nd year of school for a Master's degree, just engaged, a former member of the National Guard, and a volunteer for a homeless shelter.

Sounds like they think or are leaning towards this being targeted but made to look like road rage...

Well gee, I could never afford an au pair but I guess it is akin to having an affair with the babysitter. Creep of a cheating husband but the wife doesn't sound real smart considering she is an attorney. They have recordings and more and here is just part:

Over the last year, according to the Post, Emmi has been charged with 16 felonies and 16 misdemeanors for alleged domestic violence, retaliation against witnesses and attempts to influence public servants. Those charges are all still outstanding.

Attempts to influence public servants, this woman apparently does not quit and feels she is connected or powerful or something? Or stupid, that sounds like bribes, intimidation of witnesses, etc. I feel for the children with two parents like this. Hub doesn't want to talk about the sensitive subject. Well I suppose not... I mean he kind of is the reason the au pair new gf was her focus... Although it sounds as if she was fine if he died too...

I don't have much sympathy for this one. Not sure I even think insurance should cover her medical bill for such a thing. They refuse to cover some serious illness related things so tough sh*t in a "cosmetic" repair like this one.

Getting insurance to cover dental is almost impossible.
