Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

Yeah, and the answer from some would be to disarm the police. That would really work in these situations--not. Mpls is going to let the thugs win and take over if someone doesn't get it together but that's unlikely to happen with the leadership and decisions one is seeing.

Yep. Defund the Police. Great idea. The "Brooklyn Center" unarming officers. We'll just talk to them when they are trying to stab us. Who needs a hug?.

Horrible. There are clearly things missing here though with regard to the officers response or lack of it and regarding the husband.

It sounds as though she herself reported she was hearing voices to kill the children, so they call him (must have had his number) and apparently nothing to worry about they all decide? They also responded to a domestic earlier that morning now does that mean that morning like breakfast time of day or is that the 12:30 thing when her husband said he left? He claims he left because she threatened to stab him but he left the children there? Did she have a knife or anything then or just make a verbal threat to stab him? It does not seem this was the incident the cops were called for because if so, he would not need to tell cops he left at 12:30 as they would already know and have responded to that earlier. Finally, it says that later that day different cops went to the residence and found the children but it gives no reason after thinking there was no reason to worry, why different cops even bothered to go there later. The way the article reads, he left at 12:30, says he slept in his car but there was some domestic dispute between a husband and wife which sounds like a different one they responded to Saturday morning...

I am not doubting what she did necessarily as apparently she said to police she had voices telling her to kill her children but the part about LE response and the husband prior to finding the kids makes no sense to me. Typical initial facts and reporting I suppose.

May these poor children RIP.
