ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

Well here is another recent one for Menomonie. Small college town that apparently is seeing some a fair amount of crime these days. This one is similar to our case and one county over. Let's see if he gets longer than six years. POS.

Too bad there is no death penalty there. Here too.

Unbelievable. I think they had the right to shoot him.
Yep. There appears to be a drug problem down there and has been for some time. Not the first evidence of it. Of course that's true of many places but it often surprises those in small rural area type of towns/small cities who think their area is as it always was. It can be right under their noses and they don't even realize it. Seriously.

I hope to hear no one whining that Hatchet Man just needs to be rehabilitated, loved and understood.

Drugs in the boonies. Meth labs. Very common. Sadly. Seclusion to blow yourself up. Go for it.
It is very common but it is still amazing how some hear it, they know it, but they still don't think it goes on within a mile or two of them or would be someone they know or the son of anyone they know, etc. I can think of some caught doing it where it truly surprised many people, and even myself as to where and who.

Yeah I hear Menominie I think crime. It wouldn't ever cross my mind. It sounds friendly. Guess not so much.
Right? It truly has only ever been a college town. Small, surrounded by rural. And NOT a hopping overly populated college town in the same sense that Madison or Milwaukee would be, but it does have a popular well attended campus, UW-Stout. Not much for jobs or shopping though, pretty much a nothingville in that regard. So I guess aside from influx for college...

I would be shocked if it was someone I knew too. Man.

Had friends from high school go to "Stout". I have a pen somewhere.

No one I ever knew well but one was someone most knew and his gf (myself included new both, but not well) right out in little towns area, safe older population rural area (or so most think). Worse though are the ones that people think are "somebodies" with money and "known" families.... Not exactly a new thing I guess but so many people to this day who live in their little "bubbles" with blinders on have no clue that their little safe bubble may just be closer than they think.
