ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

I have mental problems. It's no secret. But I am responsible for what I do. Alot of people do. I am not alone. Face up to it and deal with it. Treat it. Stop with the bleeding heart crap. I peed my pants when I was 1. Yeah. Me too. It's gotten ridiculous. Sorry. That's my ADHD.
I entirely agree. There is an excuse for everything these days and a person is supposed to have a bleeding heart for a perpetrator, the poor me/poor him, etc. complex. It has gone beyond oh he had a bad childhood, was abused, or she was domestically abused, etc. It is now more like someone looked at him wrong once and he never got over it.... And people buy this garbage? The light sentencing these days sure looks like the trend is towards sympathy for the murderer. SICK.

Is there anyone that hasn't had something bad happen to them?. I get understand people that have never had a chance in life. Bad parents, Abused. Still responsible. No excuse to repeat or take it out worse on people later in life.

So that's frontal lobe. So why though?. Injury?. Excuses.
I don't know but remorse has to do with trying to get a lighter sentence and when no remorse is shown judges are at times harsher and victims' families sure have trouble with lack of remorse and honestly. So there was an excuse for it, whether true or not.

With guilt, I guess I come down to even if one can't love, trust, has other issues due to any kind of childhood, one knows the consequences of crime, of murder, etc. or should. Only someone truly mentally damaged could possibly not understand consequences, or perhaps a youth. I agree with the standard of our courts in that if there is evidence they knew right from wrong, then they have no defense mentally. Cover up of a crime shows they knew it was wrong for instance.

I guess I could allow for some things (not every dumb excuse) could be a mitigating factor at sentencing, but not for conviction.

Well said my friend.

So the school chose to edit female student pictures however felt that the male swim team in their speedos was acceptable?! The advisor for this publication needs to address this issue as it is concerning.

Bartram Trail's principal and the St. Johns County School District did not immediately return a request for comment on Saturday. The district told WTLV that the yearbook is handled by an English teacher and that any parent who calls to raise the issue is being offered a refund for the cost of the yearbook. *($100 is a lot for a yearbook, IMO)
