Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

Why did it take years to be investigated?

Fox 8 News in Cleveland reports that "Bell allegedly engaged in an inappropriate chat with the alleged victim that, at times, was sexual in nature." Fox 8 said the victim filed a report with her local police department in Canada a year after the incident allegedly occurred and that Canadian authorities contacted Cleveland police, who eventually ran an investigation concerning the allegations. The investigation revealed that she "established a relationship with Bell several years prior" to attending the December 2017 concert.

House Bill 1419, also known as “John and Joseph’s Law”, also requires a justice of the peace or a medical examiner to enter details about unidentified bodies into the same database, the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

Case details can include dental records, fingerprints and clothing descriptions.

HB 1419 is named after John Almendarez and Joseph Fritts of Houston — whose respective families had to wait several years before their bodies were identified.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office charged a Venice couple with Child Neglect after a 21-month-old child in their care consumed cocaine.

Deputies were initially called on January 8, 2021, just before 5:00 p.m., to a home along Park Road in Venice to assist the Sarasota County Fire Department on a medical call involving an unconscious child who was not breathing. When first responders arrived, Kaitlyn Van Dorn, DOB 2/09/88, explained that while on a neighborhood walk, the child picked up an unknown object from the ground and put it in his mouth. The child then began stumbling and became limp before losing consciousness. Emergency medical personnel administered three doses of Naloxone, the medication designed to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, which caused the child to quickly regain consciousness and become alert. The child was taken to the hospital for additional testing.

Joshua Clauson, 20, who was reported missing on May 29, was found walking out of a wooded area near a home on Rams Horn Road in Newport, N.C. He was spotted by the homeowner, who called Carteret County Communications Sunday morning.

Clauson spent 8 nights lost in the Croatan National Forest after he didn’t return from a walk with a family member last Saturday.

Multiple crews had been searching for five days in the air and on the ground before it was called off on Thursday.
