Girl, 1, feared kidnapped as mum found beaten to death inside family home

A girl, 1, is missing after her mum was found beaten to death inside their family home.

Police said little Vanessa Morales was last seen on November 29 at a relative’s house.

And then just three days later her mum Christine Holloway was found bludgeoned to death.

The 43-year-old was discovered by police during a “wellness check”.

She was found to have died of blunt force trauma at the property in Anosonia, Connecticut.

Police are now desperately searching for little Vanessa amid fears she has been snatched by her mum’s killer.

Attorney for Jose Morales: 220,000 pieces of evidence in Ansonia murder case against father of missing girl

The attorney for Jose Morales, the father of Vanessa Morales who is accused of killing the missing girl's mother, said Monday he has reviewed all the discovery in the murder case against Morales, which is extensive.

"We just had the last 15 discs turned over to us that we have gone through. There's about 220,000 pieces of evidence in this case, so we've had the opportunity to go through those," said attorney Ed Gavin during a brief hearing Monday.

Gavin told News 12 the case is still headed to trial, but there's no date yet because Judge Kevin Russo just took over the case and has to get caught up. Morales wore a cross in his first appearance before Russo Monday.

In court, Jose Morales waved at a family member before he was led out. He's due back before the judge on Oct. 10.

Holloway's family was also at the hearing. Police have said they continue to search for Vanessa Morales.

The headline would appear to say that his own attorney says there are 220,000 pieces of evidence against his client, does he admit such or just a sensational headline? Yet they are going to trial. Hell yeah, take about a ten year trial to argue that many pieces though right? Probably take ten years for the new judge to even get up on the case then right?

Morales wore a cross in his first appearance in front of this new judge. Oh that will do it. He has found HIS god I guess. Good so TELL US ALL where Vanessa is then!

People can wear it, And it means nothing to them. I have been acquainted with some. I asked them, "Why are ypu wearing that if ypu don't believe?. It looks cool, Or IDK. He's not fooling anyone.

yeah and any judge that's been on the bench longer than a month has seen how they instantly convert to religion once in jail and charged. born again they are, each and every one.

i needed to point out however how it was mentioned in the coverage. that he was wearing one.

I can see a plea deal now. Charges reduced for murder in exchange to lead LE to where her body is. Not charging him for 1st degree for this. Those charges reduced.

Since when do most lead them to the body? They keep that control and knowledge to the end in most cases. Sickening.

Oh yeah. That is true. I have said that myself. But if they can use that to their advantage in a deal. They will.
Yes you have said it many a time that they won't tell and that's why this one surprised me. I think part of the problem too is they know finding the body can betray what they did to the child or person and how they treated them alive or after death how they treated the body. And of course it's control too but proof of guilt I think plays in. Unless a deal is cut for any possible act, they save that coveted info (where the body is) and if a deal was made to excuse all possible offenses and then it was found a child was tortured, cut up, burned, and then disposed in a dump for instance, the public would be outraged at the deal. Imo most of these guys aren't going to deal unless getting a tickle on the wrist for a sentence and not even a slap. They have murdered children and in a way already went for all or nothing. So they are going to keep that information and roll the dice with trial short of a sweetheart deal.

Good point that the body can tell what was done to them. Some cases they are too decomposed to establish cause of death. Like strangulation. But if they are already being charged. It MAY help help them. If they see they will benefit. They are all about THEM!

They are all about them. They are depraved to begin with to do such and they don't suddenly turn into a good person with remorse and want to confess and lead authorities to the body. They care less except about self. Agree!

Jose Morales plea deal not expected to include info about missing daughter Vanessa, lawyer says

More than four years after police say Jose Morales killed Christine Holloway, he is likely to receive a formal plea offer in the case early next year.

But his lawyer, Edward Gavin, doesn't expect any potential deal to call on Morales to reveal the whereabouts of his and Holloway's daughter Vanessa, who has been missing since police said he beat Holloway to death inside a Myrtle Avenue home in Ansonia in December 2019. Vanessa was one year old at the time.

"I don't think it's a conditional offer or anything like that," Gavin said, declining to comment further because he doesn't know the specific terms of the proposal.

Gavin said after formally receiving the offer next month, Morales would then likely be brought back to court sometime in February to accept or reject it.

Morales has not been charged in connection with Vanessa's disappearance. Ansonia police continue to look for the girl.

Holloway's family have said previously that they hope a condition of any plea offer would call for Morales to reveal what happened to Vanessa.

While the family is still holding out hope for Vanessa's safe return, what they said they want more than anything are answers.

“The only thing we would accept for a plea (deal): produce Vanessa. Bad or good,” Jodi Jacobellis, Holloway’s sister-in-law, said in May.

See. I called a plea deal. And WITHOUT divulging location of her body. HE DOESN'T DESERVE A PLEA DEAL!!!! WTF?!!!

he not only killed his daughter he KILLED her mother. NO DEALS. Are they lazy, don't feel they have a strong case or WHAT?? About money?

read post #41 above. 220,000 pieces of evidence.

that post was in september and the judge had to get caught up. Just a couple of months ago.

outrageous and I agree ESPECIALLY without her body being given up.

Welcome to America. Land of the Free. Meaning the convicted who go free or get deals and light sentences. No wonder crime is rampant and murder almost so commonplace people are numb to it.

Jose Morales receives plea offer in 2019 Ansonia killing

Ansonia murder suspect Jose Morales received a plea offer Thursday, but the offer won't be made public officially until at least March.

Morales, who police say killed Christine Holloway, the mother of his 1-year-old child Vanessa, inside Holloway's Myrtle Road home in December 2019, has been behind bars for more than four years awaiting trial — while Vanessa's whereabouts are still unknown.

Morales has not been charged in connection to the girl's disappearance. Ansonia police continue to look for her, while Holloway's family members have said they hope a condition of any plea offer would call for Morales to reveal what happened to Vanessa.

Lawyers involved in the case declined to reveal much about the details of the potential plea deal Thursday.

NO DEAL without this child's recovery!!

It says also he received one and not that he asked for one nor accepted one I'd point out so WHY will it be made public later unless accepted?

America's Lost Children: 37 Active AMBER Alerts Still Haunt Families

The first AMBER Alert was issued in 1996. The notification, which stands for America's Missing Broadcast Emergency Response, has recovered at least 1,074 abducted children around the country.

Throughout the years, however, not all missing children are found and there are still 37 active alerts.

"Obviously we would want ever case of a missing child to be resolved and for the child to be recovered alive," Alan Nanavaty, executive director of special programs the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children missing children division, told Newsweek.

The alerts serve as just one tool to help find missing children. Last year alone, Nanavaty said her organization had 20,000 children missing reported to the organization. Around 90% of those children were found.

"Since we've been tracking AMBER Alerts, since early 2005 timeframe, 99% of the children have been recovered," Nanavaty said. "It's not a good or bad thing. It's just what it is, and law enforcement continues to work on the cases."

"I think in terms of the AMBER Alert being used or activated at this point on these cases, the value diminishes over time. However, there are still things that can be done," Nanavaty said. "The most important part is locating that child as quickly as possible and bringing them home safely."

2019 Amber Alerts

Vanessa Morales went missing when she was one year old. Police had responded to where Vanessa and her mother, Christine Holloway, lived for a wellness check on the mom after she didn't show up for work. Officers found Holloway's body.

Jose Morales headed to trial after rejecting plea deal in murder of Ansonia mother

Jose Morales, accused of killing the mother of his one-year-old child in her Ansonia home, is now going to trial as his daughter, Vanessa Morales, is still missing.

Police charged Morales with murder and tampering with physical evidence after finding Christine Holloway dead in her Ansonia home in December of 2019. Morales has been behind bars for nearly five years and was recently offered a plea deal by prosecutors.

Morales appeared in a Milford courtroom Tuesday to answer to that potential deal.

“The parties are still a substantial distance apart in reaching any resolution. At this point, I believe the matter needs to go to trial, your honor,” said Howard Stein, the supervisory assistant state’s attorney.

As the defense attorney agreed, the judge made the call to send the case to trial.

“This certainly will be one of the cases that will be the focus of the likely jury selection in the new term,” said Superior Court Judge Kevin Russo.

As Morales began to walk out of the courtroom, Holloway’s family asked, “Does the family get a chance to speak?”

Some relatives came from Nashville and Philadelphia, hoping to address the courtroom Tuesday.

Though they didn’t get the chance, they are accepting this next step.

“Myself and the family are content with going to trial. Because now we can prove that Jose committed the crime. And there will be justice for my sister-in-law Christine,” said Jodi Jacobellis, Holloway’s sister-in-law and the aunt of Vanessa Morales.

Jacobellis goes to as many court appearances as she can in support of her late sister-in-law. While she wouldn’t reveal the specifics of the plea deal, Jacobellis said it needed to at least come with one condition.

“Give us some sense where Vanessa is,” Jacobellis said. “That and years to where he’s never out of jail.”

Morales has not been charged with the disappearance of his one-year-old baby, Vanessa. Jacobellis said she is frustrated by the lack of communication and answers from prosecutors and police.

“We are all aggravated on how long it took to get to this point. The hurt that we live with every day, searching for our niece, when there’s no answers,” Jacobellis said.

Ansonia Police Lt. Patrick Lynch said when it comes to the investigation into Vanessa’s disappearance, they are in the same place they were back in December of 2019.

“We understand the family’s frustration. And we are trying everything. We want to give them answers. We want to give them the information that they want. We’d like to give them the proper closure. And we’re going to continue to do that,” Lynch said.

Lynch said they have received thousands, if not tens of thousands of tips on Vanessa’s whereabouts over the last four and half years. However, none of those tips coming from across the country and even the world have resulted in any strong leads.

“We’re constantly looking at it, we’re going over reports. We’re looking to see if anybody missed anything. You have different people looking over the reports for a fresh set of eyes to see, ‘Okay, maybe someone didn’t see something in a report that makes sense to them,’” Lynch said.

Lynch said Vanessa’s disappearance is something his department thinks about all the time.

“Every day. Every day. A lot of us are parents, so, we understand the frustration in the unknown. We have tried everything we can,” Lynch said.

Lynch also said the trial will have no impact on their investigation involving Vanessa. However, he hopes it gives the family some answers.

“We believe we’ve built an extremely strong case, and we’re hoping we’ll be able to at least give the family closure on that end, as far as Christine goes and that they can have some peace with that,” Lynch said.

Jacobellis said the state’s attorney has made it clear that Vanessa’s disappearance is a separate case, and will not be a focus of the upcoming trial.

I'd hope the State wouldn't come too far down in a deal, he doesn't deserve a good one. Glad to see the prosecution is showing the willingness to stay firm and take it to trial.

I hope the family gets both the sentence they want (and conviction) and him telling where she is BUT I wouldn't count on either. And he isn't being tried for the death of Vanessa. Most of them never tell and sentencing can vary but I see no reason any judge would go light on him for the murder of the mother.

If the team does not have someone keeping the families informed and with regular updates of what they can share, even at least to just assure they are still at it, they SHOULD be on at least a weekly basis. We had that and it's VERY necessary and can't be explained how much it is needed just to manage to keep your cool and stay quiet...

As usual when media posts stuff like this, this is NOT a new age-progression of Vanessa and has been "released" for nearly 4 years now. It shows her at age 2. She'd now be 6.
Regardless...she's now been missing for 5 years. :(

Ansonia PD releases age-progressed photo of child missing since 2019

Ansonia police gave an update on its five-year investigation into the disappearance of Vanessa Morales on Monday in a social media post:

“The disappearance is still an active investigation, unfortunately after 5 years we are in the same place we were when the investigation began. We do not know what happened to Vanessa, but continue to ask the public for assistance in this investigation, looking for any information that will lead to determining what happened to Vanessa.”

Police found her mother, Christine Holloway, murdered inside their home. The baby's father, Jose Morales, is due in court next week where he's facing murder charges over the death of Holloway. According to police, he's also considered a suspect in the baby's disappearance.

The Facebook post included an age-progressed photo of Vanessa. Anyone with information about her disappearance is urged to call 203-735-1885.
