Girl, 1, feared kidnapped as mum found beaten to death inside family home

A girl, 1, is missing after her mum was found beaten to death inside their family home.

Police said little Vanessa Morales was last seen on November 29 at a relative’s house.

And then just three days later her mum Christine Holloway was found bludgeoned to death.

The 43-year-old was discovered by police during a “wellness check”.

She was found to have died of blunt force trauma at the property in Anosonia, Connecticut.

Police are now desperately searching for little Vanessa amid fears she has been snatched by her mum’s killer.

FBI offers $10,000 reward in case of missing Connecticut toddler

The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the recovery of a missing 1-year-old girl whose mother was found dead in her Connecticut home.

Authorities released new images — a car seat, a backpage/diaper bag, a comforter and a pacifier. Investigators said the items were used to take care of the child.

That sick POS can't even have enough decency to tell where this innocent child is. Connecticut abolished their death penalty in 2012 so no incentive for him. Even if there was an incentive, that it is only to save their own arse that these pieces of you know what may give up a location of someone missing is disgusting.

Search for missing Ansonia toddler is generating leads, but no answers, police say

A prosecutor said police are continuing to receive and track tips about the whereabouts of missing Ansonia toddler Vanessa Morales, but none of them have turned out to be fruitful.

“As anonymous tips, tips though the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children are being conveyed to various agencies, extensive efforts are being taken by local law enforcement to run those leads down and they are to this point, of course, all negative,” the prosecutor said.

Ansonia Police Lt. Patrick Lynch said Friday that cops are still working the case.

“We get tips on a fairly regular basis,” Lynch said. “We still encourage anyone to call us with information. Hopefully one of them will be the one that leads us to where she is.”

I don't know why reporters insist on using headlines like this. This age-enhanced photo was released 11 months ago. Not today. Not this week. Almost a year ago.
Regardless, she's now been missing for 2 years. :(

Top 10 FBI Most Wanted: Missing persons cases

Below are the top ten most wanted missing persons cases from the FBI database for December 2021.

Vanessa Morales was 15 months old when she was taken from her home in Ansonia, Conn., following the brutal murder of her mother, Christine Holloway.

Holloway was discovered Dec. 2, 2019 in her home — Vanessa Morales was last seen Nov. 29, 2019 by family members, according to the FBI.

Vanessa Morales’ father, Jose Morales, was charged with murder and tampering of evidence in Holloway’s death — he has pleaded not guilty to both charges. Jose Morales appeared in court in November 2021, stating he is seeking a new lawyer by February 2022. He has not been convicted in the disappearance of his daughter.

Any information related to the disappearance of Morales should be directed to the FBI field office in New Haven, Conn.

Father of missing toddler Vanessa Morales still working on Ansonia murder trial defense

Jose Morales has a new lawyer, but he doesn’t yet have a defense.

Morales, 45, has been behind bars for more than two years while suspected of murdering 43-year-old Christine Holloway in an Ansonia home — and the couple’s daughter Vanessa, then 15 months old, has been missing ever since.

Last November he asked a judge for more time to hire a new attorney after becoming dissatisfied with his previous representation.

He appeared at Superior Court in Milford Tuesday standing next to his new lawyer, Edward Gavin, before Judge Peter Brown.

Gavin told Brown that he and his staff have done “yeoman’s work” reviewing roughly 90 percent of nearly quarter of a million pieces of evidence in the case.

But he has yet formulated a strategy.

“It’s still too early,” he said after the brief court appearance, at the end of which the judge continued the case to July 12.

He has not been charged with Vanessa’s disappearance. The toddler went missing the same night of her mother’s death.

Morales’ arrest affidavit indicates he told police he had nothing to do with Holloway’s death or his daughter’s disappearance.

Police in Ansonia have said they believe the child will be found and continue to search for her, chasing down leads as far away as California.

Morales is being held in lieu of more than $5 million bond.

He continued the case? Meaning there is no trial date set yet?

Judge: Vanessa Morales' father cannot review murder case evidence in jail

The next time a man appears in court, the Ansonia woman he is accused of killing will have been dead for more than three years.

Jose Morales, 45, appeared in state Superior Court in Milford Monday morning. The case was continued to Jan. 10, 2023 while his lawyer, Edward Gavin, reviews the evidence in the case.

However, a judge denied Morales' request to review some of the evidence from his jail cell.

Gavin said he had already gone through 248,000 pieces of evidence before receiving eight additional discs of discovery from Stein on Monday.

Before concluding the hearing, Gavin told Brown that his client had requested the written materials in the case to be turned over to him while in custody. Morales is being held at the Cheshire Correctional Institution in lieu of a more than $5 million bond.

Brown denied the request, telling Morales that Gavin could review the evidence with him.

Holloway's family, who attended Morales' hearing and has gone to many of his other appearances, declined to comment Monday morning. The family has expressed frustration in the past regarding how long the case is taking and the lack of information on Vanessa's whereabouts.

MILFORD — The trial of a man charged with killing the mother of his still-missing toddler more than three years ago in Ansonia is “on target” to happen this fall, his lawyer said in court Tuesday.

Jose Morales, 46, appeared before Judge Peter Brown Tuesday at Superior Court in Milford, where his lawyer, Edward Gavin, said he is still reviewing evidence in the case turned over by prosecutors.

The latest round of discovery consisted of 600 police bodycam videos, Gavin said.

“Judge, a video could be a minute long or it could be five hours long,” he said. “I’ve gone through about a third of them, so I have about 400 left.”

He asked to meet with the judge and Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Howard Stein next month before Morales is scheduled to return to court April 4.

FBI offering $10,000 reward in case of now missing four-year-old, items also missing

A reward is still being offered in the case of a now missing four-year-old girl out of Connecticut.

The Ansonia Police Department in conjunction with the F.B.I. and Connecticut State Police are looking for the public’s help in the continuing search for Vanessa Morales. In addition to searching for Vanessa, police are looking for the following items that Christine Holloway, the girl’s mother who was found dead, used in taking care of Vanessa. A Graco (unknown model) car seat with base and possible attached teething key ring, a multi-colored polka dot comforter, and an Eddie Bauer First Adventure backpack diaper bag color heather grey. These items may be with Vanessa or may have been discarded. If any of the items are located, they should not be touched and a phone call should be made to the Ansonia Police Department 203-735-1885 or the F.B.I. tip line 203-503-5555 or 800-225-5324.

MILFORD – A lawyer representing the suspect charged in killing of Ansonia mother Christine Holloway told a judge Tuesday an evaluation of his client has been completed.

The attorney, Edward Gavin, did not detail the evaluation concerning 46-year-old Jose Morales, but said he would share a draft report before meeting with Judge Peter Brown and Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Howard Stein next month.

“We’re making progress here,” Gavin told the judge Tuesday.

The judge ordered Morales, who is being held in lieu of more than $5 million bond, to return to court June 1.

Another case with years since the victim died.

It is ridiculous that things take so long in the justice system. It truly is unacceptable. Maybe understandable more so in a case not solved or where charges can't be brought but not in ones where they have been. Family members in some cases have died while waiting to see that trial or sentencing day. Witnesses forget things or die. People move. People have lives.

Nothing in government runs in any efficient or streamlined manner and we know it.

Sad that I believe it will only get worse as it has been doing for decades on end just as we see the rights of defendants grow and those of victims diminish.

ANSONIA — Christine Holloway’s family says her accused killer is a bad liar, but more than three years after his arrest, they’re still hoping he’ll give them the truth.

Holloway’s daughter, Vanessa Morales, has been missing since her mother’s brutal murder inside a Myrtle Avenue apartment in December 2019.

A murder charge is pending in Holloway’s killing against Vanessa’s father, Jose Morales. The case could go to trial this fall. While the family is still holding out hope for her safe return, what they want more than anything are answers.

“The only thing we would accept for a plea (deal): produce Vanessa. Bad or good,” said Jodi Jacobellis, Holloway’s sister-in-law.

yet another one who is going to waste time and money pleading not guilty and going to trial. the best he could do is to produce the child whether dead or alive and bargain with it, as disgusting as that would be, it is what the family needs and he won't do it. may he be found guilty and rot for the rest of his unnatural life.
