Woman escapes kidnapper in Excelsior Springs, MO - Linked to other cases?

No offense to those that live there but WTH is going on in Missouri? This makes me think of the other one, the Rainwater case. Both hint of women held hostage and tortured and of multiple victims. There has been talk since Rainwater of a lot of missing teens/women there, etc. This poor woman was terrified and clearly held. Just the details out are horrible and the hints are there of far worse details of what she suffered. She also talks of her "friends" not making it...

Great job LE on those 3 visits to his residence.
What else were they supposed to do? Two were for a well being visit for him and they made contact with him to prove to those concerned that he was ok and the other was for his dog and a ticket was given. They had no info on him to look for anything else. They had no probable cause for any kind of search.

This case also brings out the thought that the issues these people are having in missing person's reports, if this is the same issue all over when we find out some of these cases where the person was never reported missing. People might have very well tried to report them missing, but were refused due to various reasons - therefore, never reported.

Since you know the area and say it isn't the best. I'm sure the local LE are the same. Still go by the same old "They're an adult and have a right to go missing". Even when the circumstances don't fit.

They also often have no fixed address and the people that would be reporting them missing often don't even know the person's real name or any real info to give LE in these particular cases. I can see where they can't be reported because all the cops would have for their missing report would be "Cinnamon...female that might be around 30...we don't know where she lives, but was last seen on Prospect (huge clue here what that would mean to all locals), last seen wearing a short dress...) See my point? That is what the article tries to explain as part of the problem that is really nobody's fault.

That gets me. If he was O.K. I just can't believe there was no sign of anything wrong. I respect what you're saying Guessy.
What signs would they look for? They contacted him and he was evidently fine. They can not legally do anything else at that point if he wasn't an obvious danger to himself or anybody. It's not a crime to seem "off" and he very well could have came off as very normal to them.

If somebody sent the cops to you because somebody did a wellness check, would you want them to just come in your place and start rummaging around even though they could see that you were physically fine?

I wasn't saying that at all.. It is more a question of LE being there and nothing noticed as odd. Etc.
Again, what were they to notice at the front door? The neighbors even noticed nothing wrong at the time. It wasn't until afterwards that they even thought about a few odd things.

Now wondering if she was one of his other victims that the lady that was saved was talking about where she stated two of her friends didn't make it. She is the one they were attempting to locate as a witness. I think they put that out so they might be able to disprove her story.

Hmmmm...

I somehow doubt she will be the only one. Clearly they know more than they are saying. They act as if they don't know time frame but they know a lot to not have at least a pretty good idea of that...

Attorney for Excelsior Springs man asks judge to limit info released in case

9 Feb 2024
An attorney representing a Kansas City-area man charged with kidnapping and raping a woman asked a judge to limit the amount of information released about the case.

A grand jury indicted Timothy Haslett, Jr. of Excelsior Springs a year ago. He is charged with:
  • one count of first-degree rap
  • four counts of first-degree sodomy
  • one county of kidnapping
  • two counts of second-degree assault
  • one count of endangering the welfare of a child
This week Haslett’s attorney filed a motion asking for a protection order. If the judge approves the request it will prohibit anyone involved in the case from speaking publicly about it. The public also wouldn’t have access to any court documents involving the case.

The request claims the case received significant media coverage and national interest from networks and shows like Inside Edition. Haslett’s attorney also says people are posting using TikTok and YouTube to post claims about the case and the information is not always accurate.

The request also said Haslett will not be able to get a fair trial with an impartial jury if information about the case continues to be released.

Haslett has pleaded not guilty to the crimes. He is scheduled to be in court again on April 15.

It is not known when the judge will rule on the motion.
