ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

I read about this earlier today because my family lives in TN. They (LE) haven't indicated yet how the car got to that location on the property without being noticed. I'm curious to hear & hope it was just an accident.
This does sound strange. It should be easily clear if a car came off a bridge, road through a field, woods, etc. to rest where it is. Even if it did, all three dead? If injured that badly, it is doubtful someone drove it further to its resting spot, that wouldn't make sense so how was it missed a couple of times when they had the ping... I guess I mean it sounds "hidden".

How many days would a phone ping for... I have no idea.

Hopefully it is an accident and they just haven't said yet that it is clear it came off the bridge or road or whatever but it somehow doesn't sound like it...

Whatever the case, what a sad tragedy. Hope to hear more answers on this one.

So this guy reports on missing persons cases. There is a LOT to digest in the case of this TN family. I'll let you read through as I've not heard of this guy.

He was very active & vocal on the Joe Clyde Daniels case. It was awesome to have someone with boots on the ground to follow.

Absolutely! We don't have a 'list' of approved/not approved sites here. If there's ever a doubt just ask. ;)

So, this Tennessee family went over the side of a bridge and plunged into a ravine. Airborne into a ravine. It was actually called in by a witness the night it happened.

I'm surprised that LE didn't do a reverse callback to the reporting party. Maybe they did & it only went into the official police report.

At least the family has some closure knowing it was a weather related accident & nothing nefarious.

After actually reading the article on the above, it sounded like just an accident. The first remarks, I wasn't sure because it almost sounded like they weren't sure why the vehicle or how the vehicle could come to be where it was. I guess that wasn't in question. What is the bit about the family and the Twitter guy? I did take a look and went a little ways back in his tweet until I found drone footage and a remark or two but I didn't see anything about the family unless it was back a lot further...

MSM is never as thorough or accurate as we'd like them to be unfortunately. I watched that drone footage as well which helped put the location into perspective. It was no surprise that le couldn't locate the vehicle.

Yeah. My first remark was just on the first thing I saw. Once I looked further, I didn't think it was necessarily suspicious. I do wonder about cause, speed and such but that's typical in an accident.

Normally in times I have the time lol, I like to read first and know what I am talking about but lately just have had to go by other posts, headlines and some quick short reading if any. I'd rather be able to really take a look first.

Are you talking about the guy that I linked his Facebook? I didn't know if he was okay to quote. When I went back to his page to get the post I wanted I found the news link.

No, first I read one or two of the first posts about the deaths. It sounded a bit odd like LE couldn't find the car/ping and then the landowner had no idea, etc. It just seemed questionable. Later you linked that Twitter guy. You said there was a lot about that "family" or something like that. I looked and went a ways back and all I saw was drone footage that showed if accident, how the area was, etc. I didn't see anything about the family itself but I didn't go way back in his posts just several.

So it just struck me from all that and first posts that there was something questionable or more to the story. It wasn't any one thing, just the way it first struck me reading the first couple posts and things.
