This is the latest I could find on the KC fans who froze to death after drug taking. Many answers still awaited.
You didn't have to do that but man I do appreciate it, you are a peach for doing so!!
It sounds as if the investigation is still open and so that probably is the case and they just aren't sharing, or it had BETTER not be the case and just really HOPING it goes away.
If it is the case, I've said it a million times, detectives HAVE to explain to the families and stay in contact if they don't want further problems from families that feel nothing is being done and no answers provided and they are being ignored. Even if they can't tell them anything or much, they need to tell them at least the basics of WHY and do so each week at least imo and assure them it is being worked on. And if they can give them some tidbits and tell them I'm sorry I can tell you that, but that's all, and please do not share it. It's clear the families had nothing to do with these deaths so it isn't like they are suspects.
On the other hand, if this was MATTHEW PERRY, oh boy, there'd be results by now.
I suppose they could be working their way up the chain as to who supplied the drugs and more. There's also a chance they are getting nowhere or the very first one is lying and so on. They haven't even released cause of death to the families so I'd say it IS open.
I had to make contact myself the first time after we went weeks thinking they just were done and weren't going to do a thing about our case. I contacted the sheriff and flat out asked if they were doing anything and how upset the family was, etc. He did not respond to me directly, he may have but just to put a detective in contact with me and from then on OUT, that detective was there for us and any questions or calls. There were many questions he would not/could not answer but he told us a few things the perp did not know nor the other side, etc. For one, we knew they were awaiting on autopsy results, FURTHER SPECIALIZED ONES. I think all others thought he was home free and nothing was going to happen and they were doing nothing which, so did we until that contact. He also STRESSED the not sharing even with other close family members and I kept it to two and he knew tha. And stressed that the last thing we wanted was him lawyering up.
My point is even if they couldn't have done that with us, he listened and understood the frustration, grief and assured us it was worked on every single day with a meeting every single week and active things were going on, etc., but MOSTLY they were waiting on those results. For months. As we also had to.
He was GREAT!
I think some feel it isn't their job or part of it perhaps and maybe it shouldn't be but families NEED to be talking to someone who KNOWS what is going on in LE, not JUST some victim advocate, that comes later when charges come, then we were switched to her for contact.
I couldn't have gotten through it without him. I would have went off. Almost did many times as it was due to him and the other side and no justice while he ran around free telling a false story. with people buying it because we couldn't say anything.
Anyhow, enough of that, I bring it up because we see case after case like this where it is how the victims families feel, that their case is cold, ignored, they are doing nothing, etc. Well if they ARE, they need to be telling the family directly that they ARE and MORE.
Families need to have contact with someone actually investigating and part of the case. If they haven't, they should call the sheiriff or chief, whatever the case may be. And make it clear he needs to put one detective at least in touch with them on a regular basis and who takes their calls or at least returns them. I almost never reached outr detective, he was out lol "detecting" and at other trials and you name it. He almost always had to call me back when I left a message, but he DID call me back. Every SINGLE TIME and he knew each time he was in at least for a good hour from me, almost every single call, at least weekly. He had the patience of Job and the man imo is underpaid and brilliant on top of it and very savvy at his job. I was majorly impressed.
I can think of many a case off the top of my head here where family felt like this. To name two big known ones, Dylan Rounds' parents, and in the Idaho 4, the parents, especially Kaylee's. They made such public and I think eventually it got better and something got worked out and both sides understood more, I don't think so easily in Rounds but just saying it is very common.
It is VERY common and LE is failing them and it is NECESSARY.
Okay, sidetrack rant over.
Again, thank you for finding this. So they HAD used the excuse of waiting for autopsy findings and results but such have been back for like eight months...
They need to do better with the families and SHOW they are working hard on it. And explain WHY they can't answer many of their questions. At minimum. And do so in person or in person by phone. Regularly. Jmo.
