ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

Can you link the Parker thread for us here. TIA.

Many years ago, we had a child die in the car here in the Rochester area. There were no charges because the mother forgot to drop off the kid at daycare and didn't realize it. She was horribly upset. It wasn't intentional, just a very sad thing. No charges were filed. I have no idea how someone could deal with themselves after something like that, but it happens.
If you click on the 'thread' portion in Gbear's post above it takes you direct to that thread.

Well he can kiss his life goodbye and say hello prison bars. Unless somehow he trades up and claims to just be the runner but even then just how much he HAD... I'd honestly have bond higher than that as anyone in on it with him may well want him out and not ratting anyone else out..

Speaking of drugs, and KC and enough to kill 2/3 of KC's population, WHAT is going on if anything in the KC fan case? Are they starting at the source and looking into it and trying to go up or what?
This is the latest I could find on the KC fans who froze to death after drug taking. Many answers still awaited.

@Cousin Dupree Not sure how you missed this link or other comments around it about the case but bringing it forward. Click on it to go there. I responded to you directly back at that time as well. A page back I believe.

I saw something about this on YT the other day but didn't watch it. I had the impression it was in trial but could be wrong, maybe it too said awaiting trial.

What a POS and what is wrong with this judge that TWO TIMES he was allowed out on bail AND that the kids go to the father's side when he DOES lose them?! And he was allowed unsupervised visitation and THEN tried to murder his own daughter!! What kind of moron is the judge? He's already accused of poisoning to murder and he frees him??

As far as kids going to dad's side, maybe the family is not at fault, but their dad is or is accused of such and he was too allowed visitation. UNSUPERVISED. What's wrong with playing it safe and placing them with someone from the OTHER side, the victim's side?? Just like in Maya Millette's case, it took way too long and denied way too many times when he sister tried and tried, and there were all SORTS of ACTS the father and his parents perpetrated and used the children for and more. Still custody remained with them until finally just recently years later. Probably a different judge for all I know, maybe that moron was voted out.

Bail had BETTER be REVOKED THIS TIME. This case should have a thread, there's quite a few that should imo. Look at all his acts, and a fake kidnapping, reminds me in ways of Alex Murdaugh and the faked attempted murder of himself. There's plenty in it and now with the kidnapping and attempted murder of the daughter, even more charges, etc.

You didn't have to do that but man I do appreciate it, you are a peach for doing so!!

It sounds as if the investigation is still open and so that probably is the case and they just aren't sharing, or it had BETTER not be the case and just really HOPING it goes away.

If it is the case, I've said it a million times, detectives HAVE to explain to the families and stay in contact if they don't want further problems from families that feel nothing is being done and no answers provided and they are being ignored. Even if they can't tell them anything or much, they need to tell them at least the basics of WHY and do so each week at least imo and assure them it is being worked on. And if they can give them some tidbits and tell them I'm sorry I can tell you that, but that's all, and please do not share it. It's clear the families had nothing to do with these deaths so it isn't like they are suspects.

On the other hand, if this was MATTHEW PERRY, oh boy, there'd be results by now.

I suppose they could be working their way up the chain as to who supplied the drugs and more. There's also a chance they are getting nowhere or the very first one is lying and so on. They haven't even released cause of death to the families so I'd say it IS open.

I had to make contact myself the first time after we went weeks thinking they just were done and weren't going to do a thing about our case. I contacted the sheriff and flat out asked if they were doing anything and how upset the family was, etc. He did not respond to me directly, he may have but just to put a detective in contact with me and from then on OUT, that detective was there for us and any questions or calls. There were many questions he would not/could not answer but he told us a few things the perp did not know nor the other side, etc. For one, we knew they were awaiting on autopsy results, FURTHER SPECIALIZED ONES. I think all others thought he was home free and nothing was going to happen and they were doing nothing which, so did we until that contact. He also STRESSED the not sharing even with other close family members and I kept it to two and he knew tha. And stressed that the last thing we wanted was him lawyering up.

My point is even if they couldn't have done that with us, he listened and understood the frustration, grief and assured us it was worked on every single day with a meeting every single week and active things were going on, etc., but MOSTLY they were waiting on those results. For months. As we also had to.

He was GREAT!

I think some feel it isn't their job or part of it perhaps and maybe it shouldn't be but families NEED to be talking to someone who KNOWS what is going on in LE, not JUST some victim advocate, that comes later when charges come, then we were switched to her for contact.

I couldn't have gotten through it without him. I would have went off. Almost did many times as it was due to him and the other side and no justice while he ran around free telling a false story. with people buying it because we couldn't say anything.

Anyhow, enough of that, I bring it up because we see case after case like this where it is how the victims families feel, that their case is cold, ignored, they are doing nothing, etc. Well if they ARE, they need to be telling the family directly that they ARE and MORE.

Families need to have contact with someone actually investigating and part of the case. If they haven't, they should call the sheiriff or chief, whatever the case may be. And make it clear he needs to put one detective at least in touch with them on a regular basis and who takes their calls or at least returns them. I almost never reached outr detective, he was out lol "detecting" and at other trials and you name it. He almost always had to call me back when I left a message, but he DID call me back. Every SINGLE TIME and he knew each time he was in at least for a good hour from me, almost every single call, at least weekly. He had the patience of Job and the man imo is underpaid and brilliant on top of it and very savvy at his job. I was majorly impressed.

I can think of many a case off the top of my head here where family felt like this. To name two big known ones, Dylan Rounds' parents, and in the Idaho 4, the parents, especially Kaylee's. They made such public and I think eventually it got better and something got worked out and both sides understood more, I don't think so easily in Rounds but just saying it is very common.

It is VERY common and LE is failing them and it is NECESSARY.

Okay, sidetrack rant over.

Again, thank you for finding this. So they HAD used the excuse of waiting for autopsy findings and results but such have been back for like eight months...

They need to do better with the families and SHOW they are working hard on it. And explain WHY they can't answer many of their questions. At minimum. And do so in person or in person by phone. Regularly. Jmo.

Ok, so this guy raised $1.5 million to make bail. How? Now he's claiming a public defender is needed?

So much of this case is mystifying.
Well he'd have assets and life insurance fraudulently obtained. And was the entire bail paid or ten percent. Everything they owned would be his. I read the link but did not note the bail amount or that it was paid. He's a paramedic. Put a very nice home up perhaps?

Barry Morphew used what came from Suzanne's death into his hands to fund his private defense. Sickening huh? Nothing been done about it to date. The criminal courts nor LE don't seem to touch this part of many cases too much or stop such or undo such. Part of the problem is I think that the person is not convicted yet so how can you argue he did it, should not have profited with any of her half of things, her things, etc. or life insurance (unless they have a case it can be shown it was fraudulently obtained). Even then look at Daybell, Chad has the charges of such I think but he spent it and have they gotten it back? Nope. Half that home was Tammy's and he killed her. Any charges on him deeding it to Prior? Nope.

It's a very gray or something, I lack to the word for it, area of the law or lack of laws to do much about it I guess. In the meantime they go through the assets of the victims often doing fun things and blowing it, Hawaii maybe? Daybell. Oh and on other women... Lori in Daybell, and Morphew had a gf too and I didnt' see anything about it but suspect this man probably did as well..

I think it should have a thread but jmo. I don't have the time to do more than read the article here. And I think I might have been thinking of another eye drop case I saw recently, I was thinking it was a dentist. Or was she one?

If it's the same one, I don't know more than what is here about it, if it is two different ones I know little about either.

IIRC. It is a dentist. If you use it sparingly, It gives someone the diarrhea. I've NEVER done that. I wouldn't.

Just cater to the diaper babies.

That's a good opinion.:nodding:

What took them so long?. Seriously.
I can only guess that warrants were an issue and that something happened, someone talked, or they got enough to finally like search the inside of the barn I think it said it was in. He also had more than one property so just narrowing for a search warrant and knowing where to search would be difficult to get as well, they likely aren't going to be allowed to go in all and just tear everything apart or even onto all. I don't recall the history as to warrants in past years.

The tank it was said by a family spokesperson (hers or his? guessing her family) usually held anhydrous ammonia a product in farming fertilizer. Isn't it that that's used for meth...? It could also be his family because who else would know what it usually held? He family wouldn't I wouldn't think.

But it wasn't being used, tank was sealed with a warning message on it.
