Metro investigating report of missing 2-year-old near Paradise and Twain

Metro police are investigating a missing child case that was reported Wednesday in the area of Paradise Road and Twain Avenue.

Two-year-old Amari Nicholson was reported missing near the 3600 block of Paradise Road. The area is just east of the Las Vegas Strip.

He was last seen around 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say the child may be in severe emotional distress and in need of medical assistance.

Officers and detectives are following any leads or tips that might lead to the location of the child.

“We are aware of citizens providing tips to news outlets informing that officers have located a body in a dumpster, but this information is inaccurate,” according to a Metro statement. “Officers have been looking into nearby trash containers as a precaution.”

MISSING: Toddler boy vanishes amid rumors of a body found in nearby dumpster

Authorities in Nevada are searching for a 3-year-old boy who reportedly vanished on Wednesday.

In a statement issued to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Las Vegas police said they were alerted to a child who vanished from the 3600 block of Paradise Road, near East Twain Avenue. Officers reportedly searched nearby dumpsters but found no evidence.

While the police’s statement did not name the missing child, KVVU reported that the toddler’s name is Amari Nicholson.

The news outlet reported that rumors of a body being found in a dumpster in the vicinity where Nicholson vanished were unfounded.

The first part of this link is the press conference and then the short hearing of the perp. At about 6:30 into it is an interview with Amari's mother after ir it was found her boyfriend did this. I don't think this interview has been posted, if it has, my apologies.

She does not answer the question of why she did not take her son with her to her mother's. It's a tough one to call but I find her to seem most likely truthful here. I don't think she likely had anything to do with it of course she was out of town. I think she was guilty of trusting the wrong person without a doubt and I think it was a bad move to get into an argument while he had her son even if she was in the right or no matter who was or who started the argument.

I have a few thoughts of why she left her son with him but I am not going to state them as it is total speculation without basis but from that point on, my guess is he was upset over watching him, the child not being potty trained, his being stuck without freedom with a child not his while she was "off somewhere" and likely arguing with her about it. He probably went on about he should not have to watch him and she probably said she would find someone to pick him up then, get her things or all of the above as the case may be.

Her choices were far from good but he is the one who did this. At best she may have covered for him initially but I am even unsure of that, there really is no evidence that she did. I think she hoped it was not the case.

This was not an apartment in the sense of the word, it was a week to week motel type rental without credit checks done if one reads the info on the suites website.

Well, it quite p***d me off that the reporter said that a child is only becoming a person at that age , because that happens alot earlier. Then,.....I don't trust that mother. She is only ' I, I, me ,me. She left her baby with a man she just broke up with. That's a no-go.

those thoughts you have of how he was upset is exactly why I can't understand why she left him there at all.

I agree on Vinnie, I know what he meant, the personality developing, the fun age of two, becoming his real little own person but he does not have the words to say what he means which to me is typical TV reporter fashion.

I also don't think a whole lot of the mother although I don't think she was involved in what actually happened to the child. I also tend to doubt that she did not suspect before she says she did that his story was b.s.

The drug thing I just read after from the grandmother I think it was. I don't do FB, etc. either but I did see some comments early on elsewhere referring to what her alleged job is but have no way of knowing whether it was truth or not. It was also said when others were searching and this was right early on, maybe the night it was reported even or the next, she was on some online platform doing something else entirely unrelated to her missing son. There are probably a lot of other things others know that I have not read. I did not bring those in though as I don't know if they are fact.

I don't laud her as a mother, I think she made pi** poor decisions, I just don't think she is the one that laid a hand on the child as far as being able to charge her.

He though is bad news throughout. I also don't laud the child's bio father. He did help search, etc. but I have to wonder why he was not more involved in the life of his own child.

She chose not to answer the reporters question about why she left Amari!!!

She can say she trusted him all she wants however her own mother stated that she broke it off with him while she was out of state which put Amari in immediate danger and didn't think about his safety. As a Mom, I hurt for the senseless loss of an innocent child. She's guilty of putting herself first instead of her son.

I agree that she didn't harm him personally. But I think that she sure had an inkling about what COULD happen to him while he was with that person. Amari was so vulnerable 😐

That's why I pointed that out, that she did not answer the question of why she did not take him with. I almost have to wonder if her mother wanted them both to come and not go back to him/Vegas and if perhaps daughter and bf knew it? Another (although unlikely) possibility is he stopped her from taking the boy and knew that way she would have to come back. Or even for her, she knew her mother would have to let her return to get the boy. All of this is nothing but entire speculation on my part.

I also think (have to look) that I said a few posts ago it was not wise of her to argue or break it off while he had her son and she was at a distance in another state.

It reminds me of the case of Maleah Davis. The mother was out of town in another state for a family funeral. He had her daughter (not his), their son, etc. They argued. While she was out of state.

Sometimes I feel I come across wrong or don't word things right. In no way do I not agree with what you or others are saying with the recent comments here, I agree entirely. I think she was a dumb, boyfriend first over her child, hope it will be all right, things will work out type of "girl", it is sure how it comes across. I think it is possible she did not want to stay with him or there were recent issues or continuing issues but did not want to go home with her son and live with mom either. I think there may have been more to the trip to mom's... Is she the type to go take care of her mother? Maybe the ticket for daughter and baby was a way to get daughter out of there. Hard to say. Again, my total speculation.

I try hard not to judge or state it and I do know people can't always get out or leave their circumstances but I certainly as we all do in my head have judged in this case without saying so. From the start I have wondered why anyone would raise a child near the Las Vegas strip with a boyfriend in what is basically a motel if they had any other option? You can bet, no doubt, that I do judge in my own mind.

My point was more that I don't think they have much to charge her from what I see even though she seems to be a "man first" type. She made very terrible choices. Without a doubt. He though made the killing choice and he did not have to do that. For all of her bad choices, that is still on him and on him alone. No one, even her, nor her choices, made him do that. Does she deserve judgment? Probably. Does it excuse him or lessen in any way that he ended up doing that or his behavior or should it mitigate his charges or eventual sentence? NO. I think that is what I am trying to say that I never have the right words for.

Her choices were terrible. And I agree. I doubt this was the first time she ever knew of a temper or abuse by him to Amari, which makes her decision to leave a vulnerable baby there inexcusable. I think I explain better in the post I did just before this one. I am not excusing her at all. In no way, shape or form.

I never wanted to say you're excusing her actions. But all of HER excuses are making my blood boil, lol. You know always the same, a guy is worth more than your child. Arrgghh🤬

She mentioned that she was told to stay home because her life was in danger too, why? Where is her home? And who was that person with her during that interview? Where are the interviews with Amari's dad & his family? So many questions.

I guess that is what I am trying to make clear. ALL child cases make my blood boil. Most all cases do honestly, but particularly children. And in some and even many, I see not just choices but what I feel is even worse, participation by the mother or other parent, etc. or help covering up what "he" did.

I can name several that I feel that way about.

She may see something yet for charges. If there were ever any other incidents or history or she can be shown to have been abusive or some such herself. If so, I hope to heck they do so. And I do have thoughts and questions, many in fact, regarding her.

No worries, I never took anyone as saying I was excusing her actions, I just myself feel a need to clarify what I mean in case anyone feels that way, as I don't always feel as if I word things the way I mean them and struggle to make my points at times . So no worries that way, I know no one meant any such thing.

I will say though that I am always strongest with my blood boil in all cases, child or adult victim, at the actual perp. I can't stand ones involved or helping the perp or if they knew or had knowledge, but my strongest focus and blood boil is at the perp.

I don't think this has been posted yet. Four counts of resisting and four of assault against the bf yesterday/Friday.

"Terrell Rhodes, 27, is charged with four counts of resisting a public officer with a firearm and four counts of assault on a protected person with the use of a deadly weapon stemming from his arrest on the murder charge."

Police release 911 calls from the day Amari Nicholson disappeared
911 calls reveal what the man accused of killing a toddler initially told police the day the child was reported missing.

Nicholson’s mother, Tayler, called 911 twice on May 5. The audio reveals she was the first person to report Nicholson was missing.

She made the first call from Colorado. She was there helping her mother, and her boyfriend, Rhodes, was at their apartment watching Amari.

When the 911 operator asked her what happened, this is what she told her:

Tayler: “Somebody came knocking on the door – my boyfriend thought they were related to us – and she ran out the door with my baby.”

Nicholson told the 911 operator she’d be back traveling back to Las Vegas immediately. The operator asked if her boyfriend was home and she said yes.

Moments later, the 911 operator has Rhodes on the phone. He initially says a woman who claimed to be Amari’s paternal aunt took the boy away.

Terrell: “I had no idea she was even coming over here.”

911 Operator: “Oh okay, that’s what Tayler said. Do you know what color, make, and model car they might have left in or no idea?

Terrell: “Ma’am I don’t know.”

The 911 operator would ask Rhodes what Amari was last seen wearing.

Terrell: “He had his pajamas on still – baby blue pajamas – and a gray sweater.”

Once Nicholson arrived in Las Vegas a few hours later, she called 911 again. While speaking to the 911 operator, she’d reiterate what Rhodes told her.

Tayler: “My boyfriend said that a lady was knocking on the door this morning at 6, and said she was my baby daddy’s sister and that she was there to pick him up and everything was already prearranged, and I spoke to nobody. They came in and took him and ran out the door with him.”

Rhodes is currently in custody, held without bail. He’s expected to be back in court on June 1.

Report: Man said ‘kill me’ after confessing in toddler’s killing

While being arrested in the murder of a missing 2-year-old earlier this month, Terrell Rhodes grabbed a detective’s firearm and said, “I’m gonna kill a m—————-,” according to a recently released report.

After confessing, Rhodes was placed in an interview room at the Metropolitan Police Department headquarters on Martin Luther King Boulevard, according to the new police report. His right hand was handcuffed to a secured mounting plate, while his left hand remained free.

“Let me out of here,” Rhodes said as he tried to pull his right hand free, according to the report. “I can’t go back.”

Detectives entered the room to calm Rhodes down, but he then got up on a chair before lunging across the interview room table and grabbing a detective’s gun from the holster on her right hip, the report states. Detectives struggled with Rhodes over the firearm before they were able to disarm him.

After being disarmed, Rhodes said, “I wanna die,” and “Kill me,” according to the report.

The indictment filed Friday charges Rhodes with two counts of attempted murder, four counts of assault on an officer with a deadly weapon, and four counts of resisting an officer using a firearm. Officers Robert Ochsenhirt and Jason McCarthy were named as targets of assault.

Terrell Rhodes, man accused of killing Amari Nicholson, pleads not guilty

Terrell Rhodes, the man accused of killing 2-year-old Amari Nicholson, appeared in Clark County District Court Wednesday morning and entered a “not guilty’ plea.

Prosecutors are weighing whether the state will seek the death penalty in this case.

Rhodes, 27, is facing a first-degree murder charge in the toddler’s death as well as two counts of attempted murder after he took an officer’s weapon in an interrogation room. He also faces four counts of assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon and four counts of resisting a police officer with the use of a firearm.

Rhodes was denied bail during his first court appearance on May 12. His arraignment has been pushed back several times. 8 News Now was told that he was in quarantine, which is why he had not been in a courtroom.

I-Team: Boyfriend led police to body of 2-year-old Amari Nicholson by drawing map

The man accused of killing 2-year-old Amari Nicholson in May led police to the young boy’s body by drawing a map of where he had buried him, transcripts first obtained by the I-Team stated.

According to grand jury transcripts, Rhodes told investigators he had buried Amari near a brick wall between the Siegel Suites and the McDonald’s in the area.

Police found a bag of soiled children’s clothing, as well as a small area of blood splatter in the apartment. Investigators determined the blood belonged to Rhodes.

Coroner rules Amari Nicholson’s death homicide by ‘unspecified means’

The Clark County Coroner has ruled 2-year-old Amari Nicholson’s death a homicide, caused by “unspecified means.”

According to the National Library of Medicine, this is “used to categorize deaths occurring under suspicious or criminal circumstances, but a specific cause of death cannot be identified.”

DA will not seek death penalty in Terrell Rhodes murder case

Prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against 27-year-old Terrell Rhodes who is accused of killing two-year-old Amari Nicholson.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson sent the following statement to the I-Team:

There are many factors considered when determining whether to seek the death penalty in any individual case. In the case of Defendant Terrell Rhodes, after all the relevant facts were reviewed, the State chose not to seek the death penalty.

This is a serious case, and as a community we mourn the loss of an innocent child.

Rest assured, my office intends to move forward and seek justice for Amari by pursuing the conviction of Mr. Rhodes on the charge of Murder and ensuring that he spends the rest of his life in prison.”

Father of slain toddler speaks out on what would’ve been his birthday

Tuesday would have been the third birthday for Amari Nicholson, a toddler who was allegedly killed earlier this year by his mother’s boyfriend.

8 News Now talked to Amari’s father, who mentioned this birthday is especially hard.

“Amari is my motivation because he is still my baby boy he is still someone I have to provide for and give unconditional love,” said Jyrigio Hayes.

Amari’s father said Rhodes deserves the death penalty.

“Yea he should look death in the face like Amari did it’s only fair, it’s only fair that you look death in the face like the child did,” added Hayes.

Rhodes’s trial is expected to begin in 2022.
