Metro police are investigating a missing child case that was reported Wednesday in the area of Paradise Road and Twain Avenue.

Two-year-old Amari Nicholson was reported missing near the 3600 block of Paradise Road. The area is just east of the Las Vegas Strip.

He was last seen around 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say the child may be in severe emotional distress and in need of medical assistance.

Officers and detectives are following any leads or tips that might lead to the location of the child.

“We are aware of citizens providing tips to news outlets informing that officers have located a body in a dumpster, but this information is inaccurate,” according to a Metro statement. “Officers have been looking into nearby trash containers as a precaution.”

MISSING: Toddler boy vanishes amid rumors of a body found in nearby dumpster​

Authorities in Nevada are searching for a 3-year-old boy who reportedly vanished on Wednesday.

In a statement issued to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Las Vegas police said they were alerted to a child who vanished from the 3600 block of Paradise Road, near East Twain Avenue. Officers reportedly searched nearby dumpsters but found no evidence.

While the police’s statement did not name the missing child, KVVU reported that the toddler’s name is Amari Nicholson.

The news outlet reported that rumors of a body being found in a dumpster in the vicinity where Nicholson vanished were unfounded.

Tuesday would have been the third birthday for Amari Nicholson, a toddler who was allegedly killed earlier this year by his mother’s boyfriend.

8 News Now talked to Amari’s father, who mentioned this birthday is especially hard.

“Amari is my motivation because he is still my baby boy he is still someone I have to provide for and give unconditional love,” said Jyrigio Hayes.


Amari’s father said Rhodes deserves the death penalty.

“Yea he should look death in the face like Amari did it’s only fair, it’s only fair that you look death in the face like the child did,” added Hayes.

Rhodes’s trial is expected to begin in 2022.

I hope he gets the death penalty or life. It often isn't the case. Sadly. Going to trial so I'm sure the man is going to try some defense... This world and some people are so warped it seems these days.

A motion to continue the trial in the case of slain 2-year-old Amari Nicholson has been granted, allowing charges to move forward against Amari’s accused killer Terrell Rhodes.

The case was set to go to trial on May 9 but a judge ruled Tuesday that a status check will be conducted in 90 days on Aug. 2 at 9:30 a.m. A new trial date could be set at that time.

Terrell remains in the Clark County Detention Center without bail.

Terrell Rhodes is accused of killing Amari Nicholson and hiding his body near the Siegel Suites where he first went missing in May 2021.

In a hearing Tuesday, District Judge Jacqueline Bluth set Rhodes’ next trial setting hearing for Jan. 4, 2023, with a tentative trial date of April 10, 2023.

Prosecutors have previously said they will not pursue the death penalty against Rhodes in his murder trial.

The man accused of killing a toddler and then burying his body entered a guilty plea in court Thursday, which could put him in prison for several decades.

Terrell Rhodes, 30, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and assault on a protected person with a deadly weapon. Rhodes admitted to murdering two-year-old Amari Nicholson, his girlfriend’s son, in May 2021.

Rhodes appeared in Clark County District Court on Thursday with defense attorney Robert Langford to enter his guilty plea, which stipulates a sentence of 20 years to life. Judge Jacqueline Bluth said while she does not have to go along with the plea deal, after speaking with attorneys, she intends to.

Bluth told Rhodes that he could face a life sentence for the murder charge and a sentence of 1-6 years for the assault charge. Attorneys can argue at sentencing about whether the charges should run concurrent or consecutive.

Rhodes was scheduled to be sentenced on July 30. He remained in the Clark County Detention Center as of Thursday. Rhodes has denied the 8 News Now Investigators’ repeated requests for an interview.
