Metro investigating report of missing 2-year-old near Paradise and Twain

Metro police are investigating a missing child case that was reported Wednesday in the area of Paradise Road and Twain Avenue.

Two-year-old Amari Nicholson was reported missing near the 3600 block of Paradise Road. The area is just east of the Las Vegas Strip.

He was last seen around 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say the child may be in severe emotional distress and in need of medical assistance.

Officers and detectives are following any leads or tips that might lead to the location of the child.

“We are aware of citizens providing tips to news outlets informing that officers have located a body in a dumpster, but this information is inaccurate,” according to a Metro statement. “Officers have been looking into nearby trash containers as a precaution.”

MISSING: Toddler boy vanishes amid rumors of a body found in nearby dumpster

Authorities in Nevada are searching for a 3-year-old boy who reportedly vanished on Wednesday.

In a statement issued to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Las Vegas police said they were alerted to a child who vanished from the 3600 block of Paradise Road, near East Twain Avenue. Officers reportedly searched nearby dumpsters but found no evidence.

While the police’s statement did not name the missing child, KVVU reported that the toddler’s name is Amari Nicholson.

The news outlet reported that rumors of a body being found in a dumpster in the vicinity where Nicholson vanished were unfounded.

Police: Missing 2-year-old boy is dead; mother’s boyfriend arrested

A 2-year-old boy reported missing this month is dead, and his mother’s boyfriend was booked today on a count of murder, Metro Police Lt. Richard Meyers said this evening.

It wasn’t clear how Amari Nicholson was slain or if his body has been recovered.

Terrell Rhodes — who fought with officers while being taken into custody, briefly getting hold of an officer’s gun — is being held at the Clark County Detention Center on a count of murder.

Meyers, who left abruptly without taking questions, citing an active investigation, did not share additional details.

Amari’s disappearance from an extended-stay hotel, located at 3684 Paradise Road just east of the Las Vegas Strip, garnered widespread community attention, including media interviews with Rhodes, 27, who told reporters that the boy was picked up by someone claiming to be a family member.

Metro dispatched “all available resources,” including its homicide unit, Meyers said.

Booking and court appearance information for Rhodes wasn't available through online logs this evening.

BREAKING: Boyfriend allegedly confesses to killing 2-year-old missing boy, Amari Nicholson

According to CBS 8, Terrell Rhodes, the boyfriend of 2-year-old Amari’s mother, is currently being booked into jail on suspicion of murder. The little boy has still not been found but police are reportedly searching for his body.

The latest developments in the case happened Tuesday afternoon. The motive and other surrounding factors are still unclear.

Sheriff Lombardo: Amari Nicholson murder case ‘challenging’ for police

Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo discussed the tragic case of 2-year-old Amari Nicholson on Good Day Las Vegas Wednesday morning, one day after police learned the child had been killed.

“First and foremost I want to send my condolences to the family,” Lombardo said.

He added this case has been emotionally challenging for officers especially because there was a lack of information.

“Unfortunately, we were informed late in the process with the missing child,” Lombardo said.

Terrell Rhodes, the boyfriend of the mother, who was supposed to be caring for the child, had said that a family member took the boy on May 5.

Rhodes was arrested Tuesday, May 11, after allegedly confessing to killing Amari.

Lombardo said the challenge now is finding Amari’s body.

“It’s going to be a no body prosecution, at this point,” he said.

Lombardo said Rhodes gave police some information as to where the body might be but it proved to be false.

Lombardo is asking the public to help if they have any information in the case.

The grandmother believes Rhodes is guilty of murdering her only grandson. She says, "He’s violent and he’s on drugs, and you know so he did it because the baby peed his pants." Howard adds, "He admitted that he did it, because he peed his pants, and I’m told there’s a video of him actually doing it that the police found on deleted files on his phone."

He RECORDED himself killing Amari?:mad::mad:
Can't even argue "heat of the moment" if that's true. Took the time to set up his damn camera / start recording. Who the hell was the recording for? Himself? Amari's mom? "Look what I had to do to your son when you were gone.....oops sorry."

Amari’s mom told boyfriend ‘relationship was over’ before child’s death

The mother of slain Las Vegas toddler Amari Nicholson told her boyfriend, Terrell Rhodes, that she was breaking up with him days before the child was reported missing, a newly released arrest report shows.

“During the trip, Tayler and Terrell argued over telephone calls and through text messages,” police wrote in Rhodes’ arrest report. “During a particular text argument on 5-3-21 at approximately (3:35 a.m.), Tayler indicated the relationship was over and she told Terrell someone would be stopping by the apartment later (in the day) apparently to collect her belongings.”

But two days later, police said, Rhodes told Nicholson that an unidentified female came to the apartment and picked up the child. Tayler Nicholson called 911 and reported her son kidnapped, police said.

“Amari urinated in his clothing several times,” police said Rhodes told them. “Terrell was upset and struck Amari approximately three to four times in the body with a closed fist. At some point, Amari turned blue and purple in the face and stopped breathing.

“Terrell laid Amari on the floor and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation but was unable to revive Amari,” police said.

He then disposed of Amari’s body at a nearby apartment complex, the report said.

Man charged in toddler’s death faces new charges stemming from arrest

A man accused of killing toddler Amari Nicholson faces new charges after allegedly grabbing a Las Vegas police officer’s gun as he was being arrested and will remain held without bail, a judge ordered Friday.

Terrell Rhodes, 27, is charged with four counts of resisting a public officer with a firearm and four counts of assault on a protected person with the use of a deadly weapon stemming from his arrest on the murder charge.

Rhodes was not present for the court hearing, and a jail official told Hearing Master Daniel Westmeyer that he had a “medical issue.”

He took out the anger he had for not being in control of the situation on a precious little boy. This is inexcusable!

I would like to know her reasoning for not taking him with her, especially if she told him that before she left.
The first part of this link is the press conference and then the short hearing of the perp. At about 6:30 into it is an interview with Amari's mother after ir it was found her boyfriend did this. I don't think this interview has been posted, if it has, my apologies.

She does not answer the question of why she did not take her son with her to her mother's. It's a tough one to call but I find her to seem most likely truthful here. I don't think she likely had anything to do with it of course she was out of town. I think she was guilty of trusting the wrong person without a doubt and I think it was a bad move to get into an argument while he had her son even if she was in the right or no matter who was or who started the argument.

I have a few thoughts of why she left her son with him but I am not going to state them as it is total speculation without basis but from that point on, my guess is he was upset over watching him, the child not being potty trained, his being stuck without freedom with a child not his while she was "off somewhere" and likely arguing with her about it. He probably went on about he should not have to watch him and she probably said she would find someone to pick him up then, get her things or all of the above as the case may be.

Her choices were far from good but he is the one who did this. At best she may have covered for him initially but I am even unsure of that, there really is no evidence that she did. I think she hoped it was not the case.

This was not an apartment in the sense of the word, it was a week to week motel type rental without credit checks done if one reads the info on the suites website.
