Details of Disappearance
Angelo was last seen at the Higgins Memorial Swimming Pool, a public pool approximately 100 yards from his family's home near their home at the Stadium Housing Projects on East Dalton Street in Lawrence, Massachusetts on August 21, 1976.

His mother told investigators that he called home at about 3:30 p.m. that day and spoke to one of his brothers; Angelo gave no indication that anything was wrong at the time. A lifeguard at the pool reported that he saw Angelo walking around the area at approximately 5:45 p.m.; that was the last time anyone has seen him.

Investigators initially believed Angelo was a runaway. He was the product of a broken home and they speculated that he might have felt torn between his parents. Foul play is now suspected in Angelo's disappearance. His parents were both considered suspects in his case and have not officially been removed from the list of possible offenders, but investigators doubt either one was involved in his disappearance.

One suspect in Angelo's disappearance is Charles Pierce, who was a resident of Haverhill, Massachusetts in 1976. A photo of Pierce is posted with this case summary. He confessed to two abductions that occurred in the 1970s: one was the case of Janice Pockett, a girl who disappeared from Connecticut in 1973; and another case involving an unidentified boy from Lawrence, Massachusetts.

It's believed that Pierce was referring to Angelo's case by that description. He claimed that he sexually assaulted and buried the unidentified boy in a grave near Janice's; neither body has been discovered.

Pierce was familiar with the Lawrence area and was a suspect in more than a dozen children's disappearances from the 1950s through the 1970s in New England. He was convicted of a Massachusetts murder and was serving a 20-year prison term when he died in 1999.

Another suspect in Angelo's case is Wayne W. Chapman, a Providence, Rhode Island native who may have been a pedophile associate of Pierce. Chapman was arrested in Waterloo, New York in September 1976, while driving a converted van that had once been a blue delivery truck.

Chapman's vehicle closely resembled the description of a van one of Angelo's friends observed near the pool area where Angelo was last seen. Photos of Chapman and his vehicle are posted with this case summary. A witness told authorities that he and another boy found a large pit in the woods near the pool; the friend stated that the hole could have been large enough to hold a child's body. When he returned to the area a few days later, the pit had been filled in. This spot has never been proven to be a gravesite.

Investigators also found child pornography materials, a starter pistol and a sock which appeared to be bloodstained in Chapman's van. The sock was eventually lost and it was never proven whether the substance on it was blood. Chapman was later convicted of the 1975 rapes of two boys; he lured both boys from the same swimming pool Angelo would later vanish from.

Rhode Island police have a letter stating that Chapman was working in that state at the time of Angelo's disappearance. Chapman has never been charged in connection with Angelo's case. He served his prison sentence, and was civilly committed as a sexually dangerous offender, but he was released in 2019. He is in his seventies and has Parkinson's Disease, and after his release he sent to a a Boston medical facility, although his sex offender registration lists him as "homeless."

Angelo's childhood friend, Melanie Perkins, produced a documentary about his case entitled Have You Seen Andy?. Two excavations near Lawrence in 1999 failed to locate Angelo's remains. His case remains open and unsolved.

I've seen "Have you seen Andy". Very good. And leaves no question in my mind who commited this crime. "Wayne Chapman". "Charles Pierce" was a despicable human being. And he barely qualified for one as far as I am concerned.

I actually listened to this last week. She talks with one of his childhood friends. Very well done. So sad. :(

I really think he is probably buried right there and they didn't use the ground radar in enough area. They stated they were going to go back. But to my knowledge they haven't.

CT Nursing Home Takes In Prolific Child Molester, Suspect In Missing Andy Puglisi Case

A convicted child rapist and molester who is a suspect in the disappearance of Andy Puglisi has been moved to a long-term care facility in Connecticut.

Wayne Chapman, 73, who has been in prison since the 1980s, was recently moved from Boston Medical Center to the Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Medford before winding up at 60 West Secure Care Options in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, according to Boston 25 News.

Chapman is a registered sex offender. In 1976, Chapman admitted to molesting as many as 100 boys and has at least one rape conviction as well. He is also a suspect in the disappearance of Angelo "Andy" Puglisi, a 10-year-old boy from Lawrence, Massachusetts, who went missing in 1976. Why? He should die in prison. Should have got death to begin with. 100 boys???

So he went to prison in the 80s? So less than 40 years for 100 boys...? SMDH!

I really do think Chapman is the Perp. Ever since I saw the Documentary about his disappearance made by his childhood friend. He is a sicko. He would film kids getting off the school bus and comment. Elementary school children.

There also was a sock that was identical to Andy's in his van. But they said it wasn't enough.

Vigil to mark 45 years since boy vanished

Sunday evening, Melanie Perkins McLaughlin is hoping you can leave your front light on for Andy.

It's been 45 years since Angelo "Andy" Puglisi, age 10, vanished from a city swimming pool. McLaughlin, his childhood friend, was at the pool that day — Aug. 21, 1976.

McLaughlin is also hoping people can leave their front or porch lights on for Andy, take a picture of them and post it to social media with the hashtag #HaveYouSeenAndy on Sunday night.

"I think that would be really nice," she said in an interview Thursday.

She stressed all it could take is one tip, even the smallest piece of information, to break the missing child case.

"It's just like a puzzle. That one small piece can corroborate a piece from earlier. ... You never know what pieces will fill in the puzzle," she said.

Notorious child rapist Wayne Chapman dies at nursing facility, lawyer says

Notorious child rapist Wayne Chapman has died, his lawyer confirmed to WCVB.

Chapman, 73, was convicted of child rape in 1977. He lured young boys into the woods by pretending he was searching for his missing dog and then sexually assaulted them, court records say.

He died Wednesday night of natural causes at a Connecticut nursing facility, lawyer Eric Tennen said.

Chapman was also considered a suspect in the disappearance of a 10-year-old Lawrence boy. Angelo "Andy" Puglisi vanished from a public swimming pool in 1976. Chapman was never charged.

Angelo “Andy” Puglisi of Lawrence on unresolved homicide playing card

The state police featured a playing card on social media with the unsolved case of a Lawrence victim.

The Massachusetts State Police Department and the Massachusetts Department of Correction and the District Attorney’s Offices collaborated to create playing cards that feature homicide and missing persons on them.

The cards are funded by the Department of Correction and are made available to state prison inmates. With this, they hope that they will be able to find out additional information about the crimes on the cards.

Angelo “Andy” Puglisi of Lawrence featured on unsolved homicide playing cards

The state police featured a playing card on social media Wednesday with the unsolved case of a Lawrence victim.

Forty-eight years ago, on August 21, 1976, ten-year-old Angelo “Andy” Puglisi went missing from the Higgins Pool in Lawrence. He was last seen at 5:45 pm, walking around the pool area wearing green swim trunks. Andy has not been found since.

“Andy’s family deserves to know where he is. It has been forty-eight years, and they have been waiting too long,” said the Massachusetts State Police Unresolved Case Unit.

Oh. They are missing persons cards. I was wondering why it would be unresolved homicide, Since they have never found his body. I think about Andy quite a bit.
he was actually put on one last year not just recently.

in fact why DOES it say unresolved homicide? they can't know what happened til he is found, even if then at this point...

cards are available to prison inmates and they hope for tips due to such.

doubt it works much but not a bad idea.

I suppose they have to pay for them, wonder how many do. is it a thing for prisoners to want cards of unsolved cases? kind of doubt it.

in fact, it could just cause false stories about all on them, trying to get a break with some made up story.

not that anything that might help is not a good thing so let them go for it. but they've already been out a year so not sure why it's news and it hasn't resulted in anything yet...

Andy is local to me.... The woman who made the documentary "Have You Seen Andy?" Was a huge help to me in Melissa Tremblays case and even sat in for me at the trial when me and Missys other close friend couldn't be there..... such a sweet heart.... and she desperately wants answers to what happened to her dear friend Andy..... so I thought I would bump this up..... it's a very disturbing case and I would do anything to be able to help see him found

Man so sorry you've been around these. I don't get how they can know this one is a homicide when he's not been found, I refreshed a little bit but not entirely. I don't think I even knew of a murder around me until long into adulthood. I did know of some tragic accidents and things. I guess lived in a pretty low crime area at least when it came to murder. It's really turning into a smaller world though. I've seen enough YTers attend trials and get help from line sitters and various others, who help and connect.

I used to bump a few cases, pet ones, haven't done it in awhile. I should. Not going to get to it right now but will attempt to. A few are Amiah, Noah, Serenity, none of them found. There are others.

We had a couple of big local cases in the last ten years, had few ever before that. I think all would be known. By local I might mean within an hour or two's radius. I don't consider that radius into the next state but if I added that, there'd be a few more as a bigger city and area. One I won't name out of respect for the surviving victim and family but it was very well known. No one's missing now and justice has been served so no need either. Terrible case.

The kid who killed his own cousin in Chippewa Falls, WI and is being charged as an adult. Don't know a soul in it but that's within a radius, we all know the area, not well, the bigger city known better, but not unfamiliar with.

Another one or two but anyhow, I think some of us come to crime because of what happened to someone we held dear or knew. I know that's kind of how it went with me. I always did HAVE an interest but not in the same way and had never really been online with it.

So is it thought this guy did it? It's just chilling he got boys into the woods looking for a lost dog and then raped them and they need to say it, he's a serial rapist. I only read a few posts to refresh.

Did he just rape (I do not mean "JUST" in that way, it's awful) or kill too? I've always had a habit of hitting threads just so they are bumped or have activity but been resisting such lately. I do though think such important.

I see both Mel and I asked here how they could call it a homicide when it didn't seem they knew much.

Good to bump it. It reminded me somewhat of it or I certainly wouldn't have recalled it and that's just awful. The name rang a bell. But then I've followed a ton and I'm not that young or up on all I've followed these days.

I'm very happy you had help and someone who could sit in. There are a lot of good people out there still. One really finds out who people really are when something bad happens sadly. Not all of course always can due to life but the ones that can either show up or they don't. And even if they don't show up they sure can text, message and show support.

Been in a bit of a hindsight mode.

I had an aunt that was probably nearing 90 who went to trial with us every single day and sat on those hard benches. She's gone now actually. She certainly wasn't someone we ever saw every day in our lives but she was there for that. Her son and daughter in law did too, and drove her. Day in, day out. That's but one example of the ones that were so supportive. Many were. And it helped SO much.

Kind of in a hindsight mode last day or two, can't do much else. Sorry if it bothers anyone. Just happy you had that help and someone sitting in. And all threads don't hurt from activity imo in them.

I hope this case gets answers. That all do. Many old ones ARE getting answers these days. Man 1976, that's almost 50 years ago now.

Well this is a tough one but yes it is believed at this point that he was a homicide victim. That's basically due to the facts that Andy and other boys were running from someone so there are witnesses and also the witnesses are fairly sure of the suspect they were running from.... also Andy never turned up injured or victimized but alive so it is believed he is deceased likely from homicide. The sick sick man discussed in the thread that is deceased now is the likely suspect but it could be an affiliate of his or even a SR that looked like him..... we don't know if that pos killed kids but it seems likely rather than not
