Ariel Young seriously injured in KC MO car accident

You know, he must have refused a breathalyzer? Everyone I know of spends the night at least in jail after either refusing a breathalyzer or taking one and failing if the signs of alcohol were there which they were in this case. It makes no difference that the hospital BAC test has to be waited for as they already had cause for all of it.

From this article:

A search warrant application states that Ariel's mother told police "as she crawled from her Chevy Traverse, she observed Reid standing looking at the vehicles and talking on his cellphone," the Star reports.
She then "pled" with Reid to call 911 since she lost her phone in the crash, according to the court documents.

Judgmental maybe but what? Why was he not checking to see who was inside and rushing to see if help was needed?? Would that not be the normal human response?? I have been in accidents and it is the first thing that comes out of my mouth to total strangers even if apparently all right. Are you all right? Are you all right? Are you sure? And the same generally in return.

Much remains to be seen I realize, and I am not throwing him under the bus yet but I just hope it is handled as all cases would be. People are really fed up in this nation with special breaks for certain types. Not saying it is the case here yet but I think we all know of many such things. It will be interesting to see who he immediately contacted after the crash.

“This is a really tragic case and that there are multiple victims that have been injured but Missouri law only allows me to charge the singular victim,” Baker told Star on Monday. “So I chose the most profoundly injured person, which happens to be the little child. That doesn’t mean that we’re not going to seek justice for all of the victims that were injured.”

Well I am glad to see charges have been brought and tests, etc. came back. I am not surprised at his speed, no expert, but I just had a feeling, he slammed two vehicles, not just one and more. Seven years sounds like so little but then I guess it was not vehicular homicide or manslaughter as no one died but he should count himself lucky on that one, it is amazing no one did die, but the damage was extreme.

This lack of being able to charge for more than one victim is hard to understand. If he had hit two vehicles and someone died in each one, would this still be the case? It seems quite wrong to me.

Former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid appears in court on DWI charge

Former Chiefs linebackers coach Britt Reid appeared Thursday in a Jackson County courtroom by video, as his driving while intoxicated case moves forward.

In the hearing, both Reid’s attorney, J.R. Hobbs, and the prosecution agreed they needed more time to prepare their case before setting a trial date. Both sets of lawyers said they need more time for investigation, discovery and interviewing potential witnesses.

Reid appeared just off to the side of his lawyer during the video conference and you could not see his face during the hearing. He is out on $10,000 bond.

He will appear again on Sept. 16 when the judge is expected to set a trial date.

The girl suffered a brain injury after the Feb. 4 crash near Arrowhead Stadium that has left her unable to speak or walk.

Ariel Young likely has permanent brain damage "that she will endure for the rest of her life," attorney Tom Porto said in a previous interview month with ABC's "Good Morning America."

Former Chiefs coach Britt Reid’s trial date set for 2022 in DWI crash case

The trial date for former Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid, who is charged with drunk driving in the crash that seriously injured a 5-year-old girl, has been set.

Reid, son of Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, will appear before a jury starting April 18, 2022. During a conference Thursday morning, Judge Charles McKenzie said the jury will be selected from a pool of at least 70 potential jurors.

In July, Reid’s attorney, J.R. Hobbs, said there was still an additional investigation to be completed, including the possibility of expert witnesses in the case.

Sounds like he was just concerned with himself. IMO.

Chiefs will cover medical expenses of girl hurt in crash involving Britt Reid

The Kansas City Chiefs have reached a settlement with the family of a 5-year-old girl who was injured in a crash involving former assistant coach Britt Reid during Super Bowl week.

In a statement Friday from the team’s legal representative and the family’s attorney, Tom Porto, the Chiefs will provide medical care and financial assistance for Ariel Young, KMBC reported.

“Ariel’s recovery is a long road,” the statement said. “But she has made great strides and continues to improve every day. Earlier this fall, she attended her first day of school.”

Former Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid to enter plea in crash that injured girl

Britt Reid, the former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach, is expected to plead guilty Monday to felony driving while intoxicated and causing a 2021 multi-vehicle crash that severely injured a 5-year-old child passenger in a separate car.

In admitting his guilt, Reid, 37, would likely avoid a criminal trial that was scheduled to begin Sept. 26 at the Jackson County Circuit Court in downtown Kansas City. He could face up to seven years in prison.

A court entry Tuesday showed that Reid was scheduled to enter the plea Monday.

I should take time to think about this but haven't. I will at some point if I get that time.

I will just say I'm not surprised, is anyone? SEVEN years? And that is UP TO seven years. You can bet it won't be seven he serves. This was no MINOR thing.

I'm very disgusted lately with the sentencing, releases, and everything else.

I completely agree. Seems that the sentences should be increasing. Based on all the F up's the parole boards have made with who they set free and early. I bet the defense is saying...Yes he was wrong and learned his lesson. But she survived. He was on his phone and her mother pleaded with him to call 911. He was driving drunk, Only concerned about covering his azz. He did it. No contributing factors that added to the reason he lost control. He was drunk, He willingly drove. Period.

Yes, EVERYthing he did was wrong even after the accident. Making a call to try to cover his own arse and that is ALL he cared about.

We all know and knew because of who he is it would be like this. They'd let him go if they thought it would go over or could be slid under the rug.

And then IF he does get any time, watch as to where he serves it or how... Look at Ghislaine Maxwell, the jury and judge do the right thing but then after they send her to a Florida spa of a prison. Epstein himself basically only slept in jail and was out and home and more all day long.

I guess to be faIr, I know of cases where the drivers killed someone and they did no prison time, but anyone I know thinks that is wrong and entirely unfair and in most areas they come down hard on such cases these days.

I guess for the moment the fact he is facing ANYthing is something but boy it isn't much when compared to what he did and what the victims have suffered and will continue to.

His actions after the accident say so much. I would have been not even thinking of anything but coming to the realization I was alive and could move after a shocking crash and then immediately be running to the others and asking repeatedly if all were okay. He did nothing even close to that. He went totally into self preservation mode. It pretty much says what type of person he is imo.

MO is notorious for lax dui convictions. So many with multiple that never get time and it gets plead down to "defective equipment" so no dui on record. We are lucky that he is actually looking at time on this one. I know many with less money that have gotten out of multiple dui's with no time served at all.

Former Chiefs assistant Britt Reid admits guilt, but family of injured 5-year-old 'not OK' with plea

Former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid pleaded guilty Monday to a charge of driving while intoxicated. The charge, a class D felony, stems from a vehicle crash in February 2021 that left a 5-year-old with a traumatic brain injury.

In exchange for the guilty plea, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office recommended no more than four years behind bars for Reid, the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. A judge will hand down Reid’s sentence on Oct. 28.

Jackson County attorney Brady Twenter said the sentencing recommendation was based on a review of similar cases, and a four-year maximum sentence would be “in the best interests of justice.” Because it’s only a recommendation, Reid could still receive the seven-year maximum prison sentence.

Several of the victim’s family members were in the courtroom Monday, wearing white shirts with the phrase “Justice for Ariel” emblazoned in gold on the front.

When asked in the courtroom about the sentencing terms, Felicia Miller, who identified herself as the mother of Ariel Young, said, “We’re not OK with it.”

After the hearing, Tom Porto, an attorney for the family, said in a statement that “the five victims of this crime are relieved that the defendant has chosen to plead guilty and are hopeful that the defendant receives the maximum sentence allowable by law.”

“I really regret what I did,” Reid, 37, told the judge before entering his guilty plea. Reid also offered an apology to the family, and added: “I didn’t mean to hurt anybody.”

Ridiculous. the PROSECUTION is recommending four years??? The family isn't happy/being listened to! Only a seven year max to begin with is ridiculous. And here's the thing, they are saying four but that doesn't mean he won't get two! Or be out in one! Bunch of baloney. This little girl will never be okay!

Can't blame them for being irate but with the history of this state with DUI offenders getting little to no time and his status, he at least got actual time. Not enough for me, but more than I expected and far more than he expected.

But the PROSECUTION recommending a light sentence? NO. Maybe the state has such a history but I will bet there are a few that caused less serious injuries or none that got more time... They just aren't THIS person.

When the MAXIMUM sentence in this state is 7 years, then you add his status, what he got was amazing in many ways. I know so many without status or money that caused a wreck that involved injuries that got far less to nothing. We have some of the most lax dui laws and in some of the rural counties the judges don't see it a an issue.

Seven is the max? I guess I missed that. Is that the case even with vehicular death?

It is somewhat ignored in many areas, some judges I think see drinking as just a good old boy or redneck thing that everyone does. Football watching at bars, drinking at bars watching Nascar, etc., road tripping, golfing, etc. and then of course driving. Even so the laws are generally stiffer but the judge then goes light.
