Davenport Police conduct investigation of missing 10-year-old girl at Credit Island

Davenport Police are searching for a missing 10-year-old girl by the name of Breasia Terrell.

The last time anyone saw her was this morning on E. 53rd St., near Lorton Avenue.

She has been reported missing since around 3 a.m. and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops.

Early Friday night, around 4:30 p.m., police brought their search to Credit Island at the family’s request.

They say this was a frequent fishing spot for Terrell and her family.

Police were joined by the Davenport Fire Department in this investigation.

Crews brought out a boat, used sonar equipment and took pictures of the area, looking for any signs of Terrell’s whereabouts.

I don't think they're looking for a way to "keep the community busy" in the middle of a pandemic and 110 degree temperatures. I, too, hope she is alive somewhere. But they're not going to go out and search for fun.

I did not mean it that way what I meant was volunteers who want to help. The same thing was going on in the Thaddeus case with high heat, water, Gatorade, etc. I don't mean it is LE doing it, I mean the people want to, ask to and LE gives them an area. Some of this comes from what I have seen elsewhere as far as community coming together... In both cases.

I get what you mean but it was not at all how I meant it, not even close., so I guess I put it wrong. And there is the fact it is Iowa. :)

Search volunteers for Breasia Terrell no longer needed in the Clinton area

The Davenport Police Department said Sunday evening, they are no longer in need of search volunteers in the Clinton area for Breasia Terrell.

DPD says, they are in constant contact with the family.

They are thankful for all of the law enforcement agencies and community volunteers who have assisted in the search for Terrell in the Clinton area.

They are asking the public that if they decide to do a self-organize search party to be in groups of three or more and to assign one person to call law enforcement at (563) 326-6125 with information or tips.

I don't know why but this one today is nagging at me. I am trying to look at it freshly. I also realize in doing that that all of the questions at least for me that I had in the beginning still exist. And if anything, I have even more since. Something smells in this case...

This was just posted at Davenport PD FB. Sure sounds like search if off... I wonder if there is any more to it...

DAVENPORT, IOWA (July 20, 2020) — Davenport Police Chief Paul Sikorski on Monday announced that there is no longer a need for organized searches for Breasia Terrell in the Clinton County area at this time, but that the investigation’s resources will be focused on pursuing leads that have been developed. Breasia was reported missing on July 10, last seen in the 2700 block of East 53rd St.

Chief Sikorski and his department thanked Bettendorf Police, Scott County Sheriff, Clinton County Sheriff, Camanche Police, Clinton Police, Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, Scott County Emergency Management, Clinton County Emergency Management, Clinton County CERT, Iowa USAR and the FBI for their assistance in the search efforts. The search included aerial support with more than 150 law enforcement personnel involved in the search as well as private citizens. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children also have provided resources to the department.

“We are incredibly grateful to the community to assist in the search for Breasia,” Chief Sikorski said. “Several hundred community members responded to our call for volunteers to search, showing the care and compassion of our community. At this time, we continue to focus resources on the investigation to pursue the leads that have been developed and are evaluating the tips that provided to us by the community,” he said.

‘I just have to find her,’ mother of missing girl Breasia Terrell convinced her daughter will come home

The mother of missing ten-year-old Breasia Terrell says she is not giving up her search for her girl, convinced that she is coming home.

“She could tell us everything that we need to know. And she will. I know she will,” said Aishia Lankford. “I mean, I just have to find her.”

On Monday, the day that Davenport Police Department ended coordinated volunteer searches for Breasia in Clinton County, Lankford spoke to News Eight from the home of her mother, Donita — Breasia’s grandmother.

“If she was laying in the ditch or anything somewhere — which I know she’s not — we would have seen her by then,” Lankford said.

Lankford, too, has participated in searches organized by Scott County Emergency Management Agency in rural Clinton County as well as improvised, self-organized searches since her daughter went missing 10 days ago on Friday, July 10th.

Hundreds of people have helped in the searches; to them, Lankford says she is so grateful.

“I appreciate that, and it gives me that much more motivation that I have an amazing community behind me here,” Lankford said.

But she also remains convinced the answers are with Henry Dinkins, the man Davenport Police have named as a “person of interest” — but have not charged — in Breasia’s disappearance.

Dinkins requested that Lankford visit him at the Scott County Jail on multiple occassions, where he is in custody for a sex offender registry violation and parole violation.

“He broke into tears after about 10 and a half, 11 years that I’ve been around him. I’ve never seen him show that much emotion. So I know he knows something. I don’t know why he’s holding it in. And he knows more than what he’s saying,” Lankford said.

Dinkins is the father of Lankford’s youngest son and Breasia’s little brother, 8-year-old Detorious. Lankford said on July 9th, Dinkins offered to take care of Detorious for the night at his Davenport apartment, where he lives with his girlfriend.

Breasia, always a good little sister, wanted to tag along with her little brother.

“I spoke with her. I spoke with the woman. You know I checked it out, they’re having a good time,” Lakford said. “My call. And to wake up and know that my son comes back and she doesn’t was more heartbreaking than anything.”

Lankford says now she made a mistake, trusting someone she shouldn’t have. But she remains convinced that her little girl will come home.

Well this is more information that I have been aware of. A few of the mom's statements throw me off though a little bit. The last one being a "good little sister" when she would be the big sister of the brother. So apparently the father was with a girlfriend and this was all okay and kosher that the two kids went there... The father, I had heard it before, has a gf and apparently the gf was there. So was the brother. It doesn't seem to really fit a typical abduction/child molestation or anything because why would you bring the trail right to your door with the mother, brother etc. know exactly where Breasia was?

The part is still vague on what happened. Did they wake up and find her gone? Mom says she wakes up and find her son comes back and Breasia doesn't is vague to me. Did they walk back to mom's or only he did and she was gone? Mom wakes up and finds only him there? Dropped off by boy's dad Dinkins? How were they picked up or did they get to dad's together to begin with?

While this is a bit more info something still seems really off here to me. Did dad and gf KNOW Breasia was coming and did mom or did she find she decided to tag along? It sounds like mom called and they "all" were doing well but that's the first I remember hearing that.

I am trying to remember what if anything the cops have confirmed. Or do we have a he said/she said here (Dinks and Lankford) and the cops only have him because they found he did not update his address?

There are some nasty rumors out there. I try to put most down to internet social media wildness but one or two seem pretty constant.

Just thoughts...

Okay, I was not overly doubting much here in this case but this article and a few recent things throws me for a loop. Unless the media made a mistake now the mother in this article called Dinkins Breasia's DAD twice... To me this is starting to sound like there is something we are not being told... Did the kids head out and only the son come back to the "dad's"? Why is she convinced she is alive? The last article I read sounded like the mother woke up to only her son being there (I took to mean her house)... I don't think there is a language barrier here... Media may be confusing some things... The "dad" is charged with nothing but the lack of updating the registry, etc., nothing to do with Breasia... Mom says she talked to them the night before and here sounds like she did in the wee or early hours when told she was missing. I would be curious as to what the "dad", his gf and the brother say... LE unless I have forgotten, which is possible with all of these cases, have confirmed little have they? Of what the mother says, of where she was or anything else?

I am just not liking this one. I don't like any of course, they are tragic, but this one has big holes...

FBI announces $10,000 reward in search for Breasia Terrell

The FBI announced a $10,000 reward for anyone who has information that assists law enforcement in finding 10-year-old Breasia Terrell or leads to the arrest of anyone involved in her disappearance.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Kristi Johnson made the announcement during a media briefing on Wednesday. The briefing was held to inform the public about how FBI agents and their resources have been utilized since Terrell was first reported missing on July 10.

Agents and personnel from Omaha headquarters and the Quad City resident agency have been participating in searches, reviewed cell phone records and provided other investigative resources.

“Because of the nature of our work many won’t see the FBI working this investigation,” Johnson said. “We’ve been here from the beginning, thanks to the commitment of our partner, the Davenport Police Department, to use all the resources available to them to find Breasia and bring the person responsible for her disappearance to justice.”

That last paragraph is interesting. I hope it means they have a direction and more than we know and it sounds likely...

I think you're thinking too hard on this one. :)

Yeah, there are some confusing things in the media about the family dynamic and who is related to whom in what way. Because they do have an non-standard family dynamic. My guess is, since Dinkins is Breasia's brother's dad, her mom may just refer to him as "dad" or "their dad", biological or not. Her mom has said he was a "father figure". He is not her biological father.

It's not uncommon for a POI/suspect to not be charged at this stage. But they HAVE named Dinkins a person of interest. Which they cannot do without very good reason and evidence. I've seen some UNCONFIRMED RUMORS online that Dinkins' girlfriend woke up in the middle of the night and he and Breasia were both gone. He came back alone.

She's probably convinced she's alive because the alternatives are too hard to think about. Many, many parents of missing children "believe they are alive" despite mounds of evidence to the contrary. THIS is what a grieving mother, a real grieving mother, looks like. She goes to the suspect to try to get him to talk, she is out there looking for her baby girl. I think they probably confirmed where she was pretty early on, and there was nothing concerning, so they haven't mentioned it.

I will eat my sock if Dinkins is not solely responsible for Breasia's disappearance.

he might have simply been the only father figure the child had in her life. Sounds like mom possibly doesn't make the best decisions since she says she knew the guy was a creep but let her daughter go there anyway
