Here's some news near my neck of the woods that has had everyone talking for a few days! The LCSO sent out a presser about it today:

It sounds like someone died and a person couldn't afford to bury or buy a casket for the man but wanted to do what they could to honor/take care of the man by building a casket and getting him to the cemetery maybe in hopes someone would bury him there? Assuming no other foul play of course... Strange though... Why not just reach out for help...

What are your thoughts...?

Oh I like your thoughts! I think it depends on the autopsy. Still, it's weird!

Yeah, I'm going by the no apparent signs of foul play but hard to say yet. It's just that they boxed him/casket and left him at a cemetery. It seems at least no one was attempting to see to it he was never found and even if foul play, seemed to care or have some humanity in building a casket and getting him there... The thing is though a 350 pound man would not be too easy to move alone I wouldn't think...

How busy is the area around where he was found?

Rural farmland!

It would take at least 4 people to move him. That was a group effort.

Wow. Very different "case". So is this an old cemetery with just a few families in it rarely with burials any longer in it or even just one family...? I guess what I mean is could family have gotten him there and intended to bury him in "their" old family cemetery...? We have a few around here like that or where there was maybe a small old church at one time or a cemetery just in a tiny neighborhood...

Otherwise, all I can think of is like I said, someone can't afford to bury him and thought it was a nice place or thing to do hoping he would be found and buried OR if foul play, the killer has a heart and conscience...?

I'm curious to see how this one turns out... It is quite odd.

I'm guessing this is the cemetery.

I think so, too. But! There's also another one almost across the street! Look on your first picture and it's in the left side of where those two parcels separate above the trees. I know the people who own that piece of land to the east. I might be seeing them this weekend and I'll ask!

That being an Odd Fellows cemetery "could" also lead to it being somebody that was just trying to do the right thing.

The historic command of the Odd Fellow is to “visit the sick, relieve the distressed, bury the dead and educate the orphan.”

You get to take an active role in helping your community and the world be a better place. Local Lodges help out their communities in any way they choose and are unified together in larger projects

I saw that one but thought it might be a different road or out of number range.

That's interesting. Never heard of Odd Fellows I don't think...?

There is still an Oddfellows group that meets in Coburg.

Okay, here's the scoop from the grapevine. He weighed 350 lb, was 30-60 years old and wore 10 1/2 shoes. And yes, he was in the IOOF cemetery.
30 to 60?? I guess I was thinking if someone placed him to be nice that the body isn't too far gone (a day or few)... But if not, couldn't they place his age better?

They can get the weight but not the age... Or at least a closer estimated age range... I'm not sure I follow that...

I wondered about that because the body starts to break down pretty quickly. How long had he been deceased?
Yeah I just didn't think very long I guess due to knowing weight and the casket getting noticed... Maybe they are erring on the side of caution with age but not weight but 40 to 60 would make a lot more sense to me than 30 to 60 but who knows...

To be fair, I've seen many 30 year olds that look far older than a lot of 60 year olds, mostly due to lifestyle choices.

You guys have so much interest in this situation, I decided to make a thread.

YEARS ago, I went to this exact cemetery once in awhile to clear my head due to a rough time (called marriage)!

I hardly EVER saw anyone out there. Powerline is not a main thoroughfare in that area. I have to wonder who found the casket? In the dozen times I went out there, no one ever visited that cemetery! I'm surprised it wasn't out there a lot longer than it was!
