Here's some news near my neck of the woods that has had everyone talking for a few days! The LCSO sent out a presser about it today:

Detectives plan to reveal the identity of the dead body later this week, according to Linn County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Brandon Fountain.

Fountain said detectives are currently working a lead and are hesitant to release information to the public in the meantime. He said detectives anticipate they’ll be able to release the name of the body Thursday, April 21.

The body was originally discovered at around 11:45 a.m. March 31 at the Masonic Cemetery off of Powerline Road, according to Fountain.

Ironic in light of this case.

Odd Fellows Cemetery is a cemetery in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It is notable for specializing in cremation of obese individuals, especially those over 400 pounds (180 kg).

Okay. I think I may need two pots of coffee or something today as the brain is going say what???

I am first thinking (wrong I'm sure) does "Odd Fellows" come from burying "odd fellows" meaning men that are different like overweight, maybe ten feet tall, etc.? I know, I know dumb thought.

But they specialize(d) in burying overweight individuals?? Who would have thunk? That cemetery does anyhow... Why?

Other silly thoughts coming to mind (but one has to admit this fact and cemetery is a bit out of the box) is are there a LOT of obese people in that area of CA who other cemeteries won't accept because of obesity?

Is it harder to bury obese individuals or more expensive that someone specialize in it?? I sure would hope not...

Do they think or someone thinks all obese strangers want to be near their fellow obese man in death?? I'm not making light of this death by any means, I'm just talking this CA cemetery and what the why of that would be...

It is ironic and I also find it "odd"...

It's basically a branch of Masons. They all have their own specialties in the charities/causes they help. Odd Fellows is known for medical care and burials for the poor. My dad was a Shriner. They are known for medical care for burned and crippled children.

Obese do cost more for burial most of the time if they need a bigger anything to be accommodated, to keep it simple.

If I recall, they cremate them. I happen to know it's very difficult to cremate extremely obese people. It can cause, well crematory issues. I'm guessing they have a specialized unit to safely handle the job.

IDK. The ashes need a bigger urn. Obese persons bodies have started fires in crematoriums. They said there is no other way to explain it but to compare it to a "Grease fire". It's harder on their equipment. But if someone has the ability to do it, It shouldn't be refused IMO. If their facility isn't equipped that's different.

Put like that it makes more sense. I am a bit more familiar with the Shriners, a wee bit of an idea with masons and not sure I knew anything until this case about Odd Fellows or their cemeteries. If I ever did, I don't recall.

Thanks, I didn't know that either. Every once in awhile in these cases, one learns something new. We have had cremations in my family but neither person was obese by a long shot and I would have never guessed that it would make a difference but without needing to ask more, I think I can guess as to why.

and that's the part I purposfully didn't mention and let size be one of the factors, but as a person that cooks a lot, you can understand the concept.

Yes, she put it just right that we don't need to go into the specifics as my mind instantly put it together. It also does show me that there may have been a very real reason someone needed to leave him at the cemetery, even more so than I originally thought...
