We vacationed in Minnesota when I was a kid. We loved it.
If you get north of the cities and all the way up to the shore, it is still a decent safe, more midwest rural area with a few smaller cities. Hopefully that lasts. Wisconsin is much the same. Not that there is absolutely no crime etc. in the smaller areas, but the bulk of crime in Wisconsin is in the southern half where the larger cities are.

We went northeast actually. Burntside, Shagawa Lakes area.

We also were in the Wisconsin Dells area at times.

It use to be the crime use to pretty much stayed in a certain part of the city and you knew where not to go. And most of the isolated incidents were domestic.

That's what I mean though, you were still in the northern half of the state of MN. So you were quite a ways north actually. Did you ever then do the Grand Marais area and drive around there? Tons of waterfalls etc. between Duluth to Grand Portage which is just past Grand Marais.

Yes, the Wisconsin Dells are well known. Been there many times too. My daughters still go, and my grandchildren, been awhile for me. One of these days maybe...

I went to the Dells with my Youth Group in High School. Noah's Ark. This guy almost made me drown in the "Wave Pool". Thanks.
we didn't get field trips like that in school but the "younger generation did lol.

Noah's Ark is the best imo, only park I have been to more than once. I went once I had children was my first time.

We also did a weekend down there, my entire family as adults with all of the grandkids and my parents. Was a memory we will always hold fondly, especially because of those we have lost since. All my sibs, all the kids, folks. That motel had an indoor small park like with at least a water slide and some things... It was to get away after Christmas in the dull winter.

Are there lakes there? Lol

When I say outdoorsy we lived in cabins and fished and hiked and got chased by bears (just once).

With my youth group we did go to Grand Marais. My parents and I went to Duluth on several occasions. That's where they "Honeymooned". I took them there for their 40th Anniversary.
