Family offering $20,000 reward for man who disappeared after ‘weird run-in’ with stranger

Katie Wells of Rigby tells EastIdahoNews.com her nephew, Dylan Rounds, was last seen Saturday in Lucin, Utah, on the farm where he is working. Rounds apparently called several family members last Wednesday after having a “weird run-in” with a guy on a gravel road.

“The man was walking down the gravel road barefoot. He flagged Dylan down, who was in his truck. He asked to use Dylan’s phone and was acting erratically. Dylan felt the man was dangerous and may have been high. When he asked Dylan for a ride, (Dylan) did not give him a ride,” Wells explains.

Wells says the man was spotted in Montello, Nevada several days later asking about Dylan and there are reports that the man got a ride to Dylan’s trailer on Saturday.

“We don’t believe anything was ransacked,” Wells explains. “Dylan is missing, his phone is missing and his wallet.”

Noting Dylan’s age, Wells says some people seem to think Dylan ran off, but she suspects foul play.

“He is an old soul, farm boy at heart. All he wants to do is get up and work all day every day. He isn’t interested in partying, he isn’t interested in travel. He never dated in high school. He’s not your typical 19-year-old,” Wells says.

Dylan’s mom, Candice Cooley, lives in Twin Falls and his dad, Justin Rounds, lives in Ucon. They are actively involved in the search and are offering a $20,000 reward to anyone who finds him or knows where he might be.

It says though Box Elder said it was a mistake and took it down so it would appear they did it.

I don't know what to think on what she feels. It isn't atypical for LE not to share everything even with family and she is out there front and center and on YT podcasts, etc. so they may worry something will get released that shouldn't be, etc. I DO get where she is coming from though and it SEEMS Box Elder is not doing their job or communicating well with family and they should at LEAST be keeping them somewhat informed on a regular basis even if they can't share much--if that is the case then they say that when they make regular contact with family. On the other hand, she does seem toe expect a level of things and speed that isn't typical in any case. NOT that I wouldn't like to see it be a lot better than it is.

Searches do take warrants as well. And it appears when they finally got one, the found nothing.
They call it the CSI effect where people think things work like in the shows

Well family expecting communication on a regular basis I don't think is that and is something they have a right to expect. I do think they are finding out the efforts often aren't amazing or even what they should be in some cases and are reeling from realizing that, probably especially when it is an adult missing. And that nothing happens fast or as fast as one would like or even gets coordinated quickly.

She seems happy enough with the other agencies but is NOT happy with that one. She may have good reason.

On another note, what does the key fob reappearing mean? Could it have just been missed? Probably not, I'm sure she would say they are positive it wasn't there. But why honestly would anyone put it back? It wouldn't seem to show anything that I can think of? Except I guess maybe hinting no one took it or was involved but that really doesn't show anything either... In fact it would show someone was back in the home and why would a perp want that known?

The conclusion that some unknown person must have brought it back doesn't make any sense to me, either.... I don't think that happened.
Now I'm questioning how he managed the keys for the grain truck. I mean, had he kept them on the same ring? I've never thought about it but I've assumed that the keys to the grain truck had been left in the grain truck, so if they'd been on the same ring, I'd find it very interesting that they were separated from the other keys.

Boy hard to say. I keep most of my commonly needed keys together but right now I have some separate ones that I just acquired for another vehicle and home, etc. I want to add them so I don't forget them when I need them but it would be too many keys to keep straight that way easily.

I would think anything he used commonly or frequently he'd keep together but then again maybe you'd want your personal vehicle keys separate from "work" type of keys in the event you lost them, you wouldn't lose them all. Or just to keep the amount down he commonly carried in his pockets maybe. That's a toss up I think. I can see it either way. The grain truck was HIS right? I think.

His mother likely knows, she seems to know all of his habits/ways. She is supposed to be on tonight with Duty Ron. I just did a quick check and don't see anything posted yet about what time, etc. If I do come across it today, I'll try to remember to link it.

Now I have wondered about that...If it's been clarified, I missed it.

I can't imagine what there is to discuss....Now if it's info from the probable cause affidavit for the warrant to search Brenner's property, then yeah, that's something to talk about!

Probably just keeping it in the public eye maybe?

The little he said was that it was in part to talk about the agencies and I think in the one case how unhappy she is with the county department and wants someone else to take over.

She will probably talk of the warrant I think and at times they answer audience questions.

She very well might have a good reason but she doesn't seem to be alleviating the issue by doing this.

I agree and am torn on it. I totally understand on one hand where she is coming from but on the other hand, if you alienate or ruffle egos with the department with jurisdiction well are you sure you want to do that unless she really has a lot of cause. Not the same kind of case but I've felt that frustration but not because of lack of a good department/detectives, just frustration at the time things take and that he was free and things like that AND that they won't and can't tell you everything and while I understood it, it didn't mean it wasn't very hard at times to accept it.

On the other hand, it IS possible they don't police this area, want to or do not want this solved for some reason...

The error on Namus though does seem a big mistake especially if they were the ones telling her it had to be kept hushed.

I should go check to see if that show tonight and time is listed yet. I'm not getting the other things done I should be anyhow :(

I found this one done today. She isn't on it but they cover her upset etc. with LE. I listened but not intently to all of it, I was doing other things They do mention how LE doesn't inform the family that they are doing anything at all. Covered the mistake on Namus. DutyRon said the sheriff's wife (who also contacted Candace Cooley back when sticking up for her husband, etc.) also tried to contact him to defend him some time ago. Said he didn't respond. I agree this is inappropriate as all heck. She is NOT an officer or the sheriff. Very unprofessional imo.

I didn't hear anything about the mom coming on tonight so maybe plans changed.

Missing in Utah: Men dedicated to finding Dylan Rounds

Lance Kelly and Ty Corbin have never met Dylan Rounds. Yet, they’re determined to keep looking for him.

Kelly and Corbin live near Montello, Nevada, a short distance from Lucin. Rounds was operating his own farm outside of Lucin.

Kelly said he met Justin Rounds during the first days of his son’s disappearance. “It started as a promise to Justin, Dylan’s dad, that we were going to search for him and not stop,” said Kelly.

Nearly every day, Kelly, his wife and Corbin will be out looking for Rounds. Even though there’s a $100,000 reward offered, they say they have no desire to take the money. All they want to do is find Dylan and understand the reality his parents are facing.

“We’ve come to think that he’s probably not with us anymore, that he’s out in the desert… somewhere,” said Corbin. “My opinion is James Brenner did this. He knows the area, he’s familiar with it.”

Earlier this month, Kelly was determined to find Brenner’s property in hopes of finding clues. No one had been there, until now.

During a recent search, Kelly and his wife found it. They have a YouTube channel called Earthworm Infertainment and livestream or post their searches.

The cabin search had over 47,000 views and countless comments from their viewers. “Yeah, we found it,” Kelly could be heard on the post. “This is some more burnt wood.”

But Brenner’s cabin was burned down. Kelly thought there had been an explosion, then his wife found something else.

“Kendra is down off the hill and she notices these shovels and so she yells over at me ‘there’s some shovels over here,'” Kelly told ABC4. “We come over and checked them out. The shovels are standing up, straight out of the ground.”

It appeared the ground had recently been disturbed. He didn’t search any further but he contacted authorities. The tip brought law enforcement to Brenner’s cabin a week ago. They didn’t find any evidence that linked Brenner to the crime.

But that won’t stop them. They have continued to search along the railroad lines where big rocks and small boulders could easily cover a body. They brave the 100-degree temperatures and are constantly on alert for rattlesnakes.

And after a search, the men are on Youtube answering questions. One recent episode took them deep into an underground mine.

“So Lance is being very careful in these mines,” Corbin said. “We don’t want to have people to have to come out and rescue us.”

He said they let others know they’ll be searching and when to expect their return. For now, there’s no plans to stop searching for Dylan.

“Until he’s found, until someone finds him,” said Corbin. “We pray that anybody finds him, not just us.”

I haven't had a chance to watch much but know of a little, know about the search, that mom is unhappy with Box Elder County, etc. and that they didn't find anything. Didn't know a lot about Corbin, etc. Hope to get a chance to follow that or watch some.

One thing I would say is just because they didn't find anything, it doesn't mean soil was tested or dirt on shovels or dogs brought out, etc. although they may have been, I haven't been able to watch much but I just mean it doesn't mean the shovels have no meaning, etc. I think the guy would be pretty clueless if he left them standing where he buried someone if he did it but that doesn't mean he wasn't trying to move, mix soil, get soil to take somewhere to cover better, etc.

I pray this boy is found and I agree with him, in this case, I have little hope he is alive sadly. He sure doesn't seem anywhere close to the type that would run off or abandon his farm/life/give up/move on, etc.

So if Box Elder Co's warrant was refused, perhaps the Elko Co warrant was approved due to the info from those YouTubers who'd been on Brenner's property and
came across shovels and a disturbed area of ground.
Regardless, what's most interesting to me is Box Elder Co's apparent lack of probable cause.
I have yet to watch that and need to remember to, won't be today though.

I wonder if each went to their respective count and a different judge or both went to Box Elder... Jurisdiction would belong to Box Elder unless they could prove something happened to him/caused his death in the other county wouldn't though....?

You know, I do recall that it does seem complicate matters when a murder occurs in one jurisdiction and the recovery of the body is in another.
As for warrants, I wouldn't imagine that jurisdiction would matter but I really don't know anything about that.

It was a mess in the McStay case. Yes, it's very difficult to make sure all the data gets transferred to the other team.

I think it does and think it likely has to be in the county where the searched residence is located. A short time back, if recall it correctly, there was a no knock warrant executed in Minneapolis and some died, an apt. complex downtown. I think it was St. Paul's case and they had to call Mpls. to execute it or get the warrant there or both, I can't recall exactly. I think warrants are jurisdictional too unless federal I'd guess. But I'm not going to swear to it...
