Family offering $20,000 reward for man who disappeared after ‘weird run-in’ with stranger

Katie Wells of Rigby tells EastIdahoNews.com her nephew, Dylan Rounds, was last seen Saturday in Lucin, Utah, on the farm where he is working. Rounds apparently called several family members last Wednesday after having a “weird run-in” with a guy on a gravel road.

“The man was walking down the gravel road barefoot. He flagged Dylan down, who was in his truck. He asked to use Dylan’s phone and was acting erratically. Dylan felt the man was dangerous and may have been high. When he asked Dylan for a ride, (Dylan) did not give him a ride,” Wells explains.

Wells says the man was spotted in Montello, Nevada several days later asking about Dylan and there are reports that the man got a ride to Dylan’s trailer on Saturday.

“We don’t believe anything was ransacked,” Wells explains. “Dylan is missing, his phone is missing and his wallet.”

Noting Dylan’s age, Wells says some people seem to think Dylan ran off, but she suspects foul play.

“He is an old soul, farm boy at heart. All he wants to do is get up and work all day every day. He isn’t interested in partying, he isn’t interested in travel. He never dated in high school. He’s not your typical 19-year-old,” Wells says.

Dylan’s mom, Candice Cooley, lives in Twin Falls and his dad, Justin Rounds, lives in Ucon. They are actively involved in the search and are offering a $20,000 reward to anyone who finds him or knows where he might be.

I go really back and forth on it. I wasn't in agreement with the parents in total but when one listens to this, I do understand. I don't think they are worried about prosecution so much as finding Dylan so their focus is on pressing for answers from Brenner, searching for Dylan, etc. I mean they want the person prosecuted but what they really want most is to find their son.

The things she said and her ex mostly backed up does make the county appear to not be doing their job in some cases. I do think some of it they wanted to hold in the way LE does for prosecution but five months and their son has not been found and they don't understand why they wouldn't do drones, and honestly letting Brenner clean the truck and the grain shed, etc. was a BIG mistake imo. I can understand where they are coming from.

And when she said they laughed in their faces basically, I mean this is not a good look for LE.

I do think her quickly calling them out at the beginning didn't help the relationship and you can understand why LE is as they are then BUT that is ego and power and showing the family you can't do that, do you know he were are type of garbage. If you call us out then we aren't going to help you or work with you? Not right. They may not like it but it doesn't change their job and imo their duty to the family.

I don't know.

This is quite the info. And her point of what are they waiting for, more evidence now isn't going to just magically fall out of the sky makes sense. She is saying this is as good as it gets and since Brenner got rid of evidence most likely right in front of their noses (or put it back in the case of the gun and key fob), that ship has sailed. The only thing that might change that or add evidence is finding Dylan and LE isn't trying to do that. They may be thinking someone will stumble across him one day and waiting for a body though...

Five months of agony while they know their son is out there probably decomposing...

I don't disagree I guess with the fact LE agencies don't have the resources or don't use them or can't use them due to budgets to do as we all would want done or they just won't or their protocol is search for a few days and call it good...

Some things do need to change. In the system as well. Imho.

Exactly! I do understand their desire for info, but they are doing themselves no favors here.
I wonder if LE wanted this information released. I feel like every single detail we know, we know because his parents are talking. I'm going to echo some others' comments and say that this is probably why LE is not giving them any more information.
I feel for them. I really do. And I know they're just trying to keep their son in the spotlight and keep his name out there. But they seem to feel entitled to know every detail that LE knows, but then they go and tell the media those details...

well they have info and it is because all of what was found seems to be because they found it or were present when found.

a lot of new info in these videos. imo.

Oh I’m not trying to put her down for saying too much, I think she is desperate to find her son as well. I was just looking at it from a prosecutor’s point of view.

I haven’t seen this one! I’ll have to catch it tonight.
I thought it would probably be a close duplicate of Nate Eaton's as to info but it wasn't. Both are very well worth watching. I don't get much time but did watch both now (or listen more like it) and I would recommend watching both.

It's not hard to understand and agree with a lot of what the mother is saying. The local sheriff's department is something like 2.5 hours away but they are not understaffed and they REFUSED help of neighboring agencies, organizations and more. I think this happens a lot and she says she just doesn't want anyone else to go through what they are and I think we'd all like to see changes. And early on they seemed to have enough to secure a scene or arrest Brenner if only on the existing warrant AND they let him access things and more.

I get both sides of it but she does have some very valid points. In both videos.

Anyhow, the drone was supplied by Equusearch to Heavy D. And there was new info in these videos.

I was able to get through half of it last night. I’ve been winterizing around here so I am a little shorter on time. The rain is coming though, that’ll catch me up.

I know and I wasn't necessarily responding to just your post but the overall thing and thoughts on it. I agree with all.

Okay. All know I have thought Dylan's mom has pushed and criticized LE too much but in the next breath I get it. I go back and forth.

Linda is never the first on news. She isn't even the second. Or the third quite often. And she doesn't cover all cases but when she puts one up she dials in and gets it right and has the facts right. And she has a way of pointing to the very things that matter or are significant.

I'll be the first to say in following a lot of crime, I can lose my thing where it hits a person hard and raw, that hit deep feeling of what if this was us. It hits but not as freshly if one sees it over and over. I felt it when Nate and Heavy D had Dylan's mom on, I mean his cell phone was in a pond where Brenner placed himself at! But even so, listening to Linda really brings it in. The boots Brenner admitted to. The pond, etc. Your CHILD is missing and there is his clothing, then there is is phone. Neither next to his bed or in normal places! And this guy places himself with both and at both. And the cops do nothing?!!!

I have swung back and forth and I do but this brought me fully back to the parents' side and LE has a lot of 'splaining to do. Linda has a real way of dialing in and putting the focus where it belongs. Worth watching and as is her way I could never do, not too long but packs a lot into a short video and hits the points.

I agree with you 100%! She has a gift for sure. I watched her video tonight and I was so impressed with the way she put everything together. Did she say that there is a $100,000 reward? And did she say that Heavy D matched it?

Yep reward is now $200,000. And this family is taking no money so no one can do the usual criticism when they do that. She tells everyone that asks to give it to Equusearch or someone to help people going through such things.

It sounds like with LE too she does NOT want to see another family go through what they have been put through. I can understand that one. I feel that way about my first attorney. NO ONE should have to suffer the damage she caused, anxiety and more.

Again I understand both points of view but this LE treatment of all has been far from stellar. It seems.

I can totally understand Dylan's moms frustration and anger. To know that there was an arrest warrant for Brenner the whole time...
No kidding right? And they refused help from tons of other area agencies and search teams, etc. My guess is they wouldn't work with Equusearch who requires LE permission and cooperation.

Yeah Equusearch won’t get involved unless they are invited by law-enforcement. That makes it extra special that they let Heavy D borrow their equipment.

So, I already couldn't wrap my head around the idea that the key fob was "returned" and now the info is that the pistol was also returned either the day before or after (I don't remember)...but either way. it was a within a day...Well, if possible, such makes even less sene to me. Anyway, the only way I'd agree that the call from Kurt was a ruse is if Kurt was involved, so at this point, I don't.
Am I right to conclude that the info that the grandma call was from Dylan's farm was inaccurate?

My guess is Heavy D was willing to do it without LE cooperating or helping and so Equusearch didn't have to break their rule but is still able to help.

Kurt was the story someone was holding him wasn't it? Am I thinking of the right thing? They think he was possibly after the reward and hoping a story would do it if that's the person you mean. That was what I got from it.

I do know locations were very confused in this case in the beginning. And even noted mom tried to make it clear which place was which that Brenner stayed, which was Dylan's etc. etc. because it was very confusing. I remember even asking on here. Sounds like the call with grandma was at the grain shed wasn't it? So technically not Dylan's farm. Seems like in the beginning it was all portrayed as "Dylan's" and/or it all was not clear. I guess it is also possible mom and dad didn't entirely know at that point. Some of that probably comes from not knowing what they are allowed to say or should say or not. I have been there. You care so much the last thing you want to do is jeopardize anything and YET you can't stand what seems to be nothing moving or being done, etc. and if LE isn't advising and talking to you, it would be even worse.

Jmo..

Yeah, my take on Kurt is that regardless of whether he was after the reward, he believed that the info was (at least) potentially credible, but it's my understanding that the mother now thinks it was a ruse, which doesn't make sense to me, does it to you?
As for the grandma call, the info was that it was from Dylan's farm but now that I've thought about it, I suppose that that could still be accurate and that for some reason, info re a call to Brenner from the 'grain shed property' gate was withheld, which I don't understand since by that time, he would have already either confirmed or denied any contact with Dylan, right?
